The Terminal at Springs

It was four am when I entered Colorado Springs Airport. Darkness of the sky was kissing the lips on the face of the mountain. Right around sunrise after I had my morning cappuccino I saw the sight that would speak to my mind and heart. The words came from Pikes Peak. The mountain was red and looked like the flesh of my Red ancestors. A cloud was coming from the mountain in a grey color. I kept thinking of Chief Red Cloud and Chief Crazy Horse on how they lived and wondered what the last thoughts they had before entering into the spirit world. No rain was there, and it would not be until the plane would leave for me to travel to Atlanta and then to the Old World.
I could hear the mountain speaking to my spirit. I was in awe, but in fear of my life. I was making a change that would affect me for the rest of my life. I heard music in the background that I would later come to know as Novis by Santana and Placido Domingo.
After seeing the photo of my plane taking off from my mom, I realized that this plane was the missile (mi-sigh-al) that would change my spirit. It sure did as I am now a world traveler. I have not fear of the air.

The Kennedy Center

The Kennedy Center is known to the world
For honoring those in the arts –
From Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, Astaire,
Whose talents top all of the charts.

Sinatra, Gene Kelly, L. Bernstein, Kazan
And Benny and Lena and Merce,
Ray Charles, Lucille Ball, Isaac Stern and George Burns,
The list both profound and diverse.

Belafonte and Ailey and Hepburn and Peck,
Gillespie and Sondheim, the Who;
Aretha and Dylan and Kander and Ebb,
Judith Jamison, Chuck Berry, too.

Baryshnikov, Quincy, Paul Simon and Cash,
Warren Beatty, James Taylor and Cher;
Tina Turner and Spielberg and Barbra and Tharp,
Yo Yo Ma, Dustin Hoffman – all there.

Al Pacino and Elton, De Niro and Streep,
Lily Tomlin, Santana and Sting;
LL Cool J and Reba and Joni, Mel Brooks,
Lionel, Dick Van Dyke, Carole King.

There are more I’ve not mentioned, but going ahead,
It is going to be quite a shock
When the Kennedy Center will honor, perhaps,
Village People or maybe Kid Rock.

Oh, I fear for this country in so many ways
And it feels we’ve been stabbed in our hearts
With the Kennedy Center now being run
By a man with no stake in the arts.

Reino Das Coisas Pequenas

Reino das Coisas Pequenas

No reino das
coisas pequenas,
Cláudia,
tua grandeza floresce,
tua nobreza se tece.

Os corredores
de Santana,
testemunha
de tua labuta,
No sábado
Tudo é muito,
quando o coração
 não está sozinho,
Cláudia, faz
do teu sábado,
divinações
mais e mais.

Em Santana da Ponte Pensa,
Cláudia,
na Farmácia
Pública,
com dedicação,
faz a dor
sumir, para
cada paciente,
uma promessa;
com sua força,
a comunidade
ela defende.

Então, você, eu
e toda a gente
aprecie a sexta-feira
cuide da saúde,
para evitar a doença,
faça a sua parte,
e veja a vida
viver,
mais e mais.

Quinta-Feira

Quinta-Feira

Em Santana da Ponte Pensa,
a quinta-feira
amanhece,
Cláudia,
brilha como
a luz do
meio dia.

Cláudia...
Seu cuidado
nunca falha,
aviando
receitas
para cada paciente,
um alívio precioso,
com seu trabalho,
faz o dia mais glorioso.

Ponte Firme

Ponte Firme

Santana da Ponte Pensa,
Ponte Firme...
Onde cada
habitante é um
elo de transformação...

Santana, e Santanenses,
acolhe a força Firme
da Ponte que leva
exemplos de
força e
solidariedade,
construindo
uma nova
realidade.

Trabalho

Trabalho

Com mãos firmes
e coração pulsante,
noite após noite,
dia após dia...
Santana da Ponte Pensa
transforma
o pouco
em muito,
os grãos de areia
em tijolos,
a esperança
em realidade.

Neste caminho
de continuidade,
nosso voto
de confiança,
acende a chama
de esperança:
onde há trabalho,
há amor, e onde
há amor, há um futuro
para todos nós.

Festa Na Feira

Festa na Feira

Na Festa da Feira
Santana, teu caldo,
a todos aquece,
na festa primeira,
o povo agradece,
aos que governam,
com arte e destreza.

Do fogo,
nasce a poesia,
com Sérgio Filho
e Fernando,
viva a alegria,
Santana, tua festa,
nossa melodia.

Celebra o caldo,
na festa que canta,
sob o céu estrelado,
no terminal da esperança,
tudo é sagrado,
Santana,
teu caldo,
nosso legado amado.

Passos

Passos

Cláudia,
seus passos
percorrem
os corredores
com força visível;
o som de
cada passo
é uma melodia
aos ouvidos,
guia os passos
de Santanenses
que
buscam
alento.

Mil Obrigados Cláudia
por todos nós
de Santana da Ponte Pensa.

Saudades

Saudades

Nas portas que abri,
fiz tatuagens
na memória,
vestígios
de risos,
carinhos e
cuidados.

Debaixo do sol
de Santana
a minha saudade
veste as ruas,
onde sempre
regressarei.

Cada esquina
guarda um
pedaço,
onde dia
7 de junho
vou rever.

Alaina
Se llamaba Alaina
She stole my heart in a cabana
I still can’t listen to Santana
I need my gotta see my Alaina-na-na-na
My Alaina-na-na-na
Oh oh oh oh oh, um um um um

Her hips did all the talkin’
I knew I was a dead-man-walkin’
There’s no defense against those curves
Can’t say it wasn’t worth the pain I endured from

Alaina
Se llamaba Alaina
She stole my heart in a cabana
I still can’t listen to Santana
I need my gotta see my Alaina-na-na-na
My Alaina-na-na-na
Oh oh oh oh oh, um um um um

I had no doubt she’d be trouble
Her smile had me seein’ double
I love the places she takes me
So not knowin’ where she is, is makin’ me crazy for

Alaina
Se llamaba Alaina
She stole my heart in a cabana
I still can’t listen to Santana
I need my gotta see my Alaina-na-na-na
My Alaina-na-na-na
Oh oh oh oh oh, um um um um

I still can’t listen to Santana
I need my gotta see my Alaina

Santana

Mães de Santana,
mulheres santanenses
hoje, 14 de maio
celebramos seu valor;
mulheres de Santana,
você são
nossa força, clara
e segura
como o lema
de nossa cidade.
Mulheres e Mães
Santanenses
de Santana,
nossa fortaleza.
Pelo seu amor,
pela sua nobreza,
são nosso sol,
nossa natureza.
Feliz Dia das mães.

Santa Ana Wind

Within ageless canyons we hold our breath.
Ash clouds engulf us, survival or death?
Santana stampedes, pariah unchained.
‘Tis Dante’s hellhound of Hades renamed!

Chased from our homes and all else that we own,
Panicked we flee, to a refuge unknown.
Behind us a past we can never forget
The clear hills of May, June’s swallows…regret.

Sparked up by nature, mishap or misdeed
Transmission line wires sing songs we must heed.
Flora in peril. Restore what is left!
Redeem our planet for which we’ve been blest.

Wildfires delivering whirlwinds of flame.
Let’s pledge to assure renewal sustained.

Santa Ana Reclaimed

Wildfires of fall bring us whirlwinds of flame.
Black-scape throughout, life’s survival or death?
Spring blooms of dogwood. Renewal sustained.

Santana stampedes, she’s wicked, untamed,
through canyons of ages. We hold our breath.
Wildfires of fall bring us whirlwinds of flame.

Now Dante’s hellhound of Hades renamed!
Desiccation abounds where there were fresh
spring blooms of dogwood. Renewal sustained.

What brought this on us, is someone to blame?
Nature or mishap? A crazed soul's arrest?
Wildfires of fall bring us whirlwinds of flame.

Now charred, disfigured but memory maintains
the clear hills of May, June sparrows, content.
Spring blooms of dogwood, renewal sustained.

Flora in peril, all creatures the same!
Twixt ashes or mudslides? These losses attest!
Wildfires of fall bring us whirlwinds of flame.
Spring blooms of dogwood, renewal sustained.
