I flapped my arms
I flew to Saginaw
Never came back
I'm still in Saginaw
I'd like to fly home
But I'd just get busted
I'm so disgusted
Gotta stay in Saginaw.

Hankering hordes of hungry hovering hawks haunt hoodoos in Utah.
Underfed California condors cruise canyon cataracts for corpses.
Nesting, starving swallows swiftly search for slime and straw in Saginaw.
Gorging ravenous ravens roam Wrangell’s razor ridges in Alaska.
Eager pelicans patrol and plunge for perch in pallid Pacific waters.
Returning red robins round up ripe raspberries in Rhode Island.

MAP EYES
In Michigan
Say especially around Detroit Flint Saginaw
What’s to see?
What’s to do?
Everyone heads north
I-75
The Lakes!
Erie
Michigan
SUPERIOR!
There has always been this exodus
Even in the old days when I-75 was just a dirt strip
I think it has something to do with map-eyes-
Those huge lakes surround the “mitten”
Splashing south
Like cool blue tongues
The invitation is irresistible
Mind’s eye can smell it in the air
The wet
Jack and lodge pole pines
Camp fires
Head high
Shoulders straight and free
Kids in their holiday red-white and blue
Head north
The boat
Macinac Island
I – 75 is a jam
But there are map-eyes and
Well for God’s sake!
It’s the Fourth of July!

Why does she make Tyesha cry?
Why she act like she don’t care?
Why did she have 3 kids that she doesn’t want to take care of?
Why do all of us hate being at home?
Why does she have a man in the house she doesn’t trust?
Why does she let him hurt Tyesha?
Why would Tyesha have to lie?
Why am I scared to leave them with her?
Why do I feel it’s my right to protect them?
Why do I want to settle for less in stay in Saginaw to have them close to me?
Why does she treat us wrong?
I know why it’s because of Skinny!!
