Dropped the receiver, when Jill tried to phone
my old retriever, won’t pick up his bone
no more beer or cigarettes
I’m still here, with my regrets
she’s in Geneva, with that guy, Jerome.

my new puppy runs like a gazelle except faster
He is a retriever all right
He finds whiskey bottles, bottle caps, gum wrappers,
He has been bringing home pieces of a porch lately
Not our porch, an older porch, with paint that is more yellow
None of our neighbors have porches
More ditch diving? Perhaps
He retrieves everything he finds
and he finds a lot

I have always wanted a golden retriever puppy.
This year I decided to gift myself one; he is Beau.
Thirty-five pounds of sheer puppy-chewing fun.
Sophie, our thirteen -pound persnickety cocker was horrified.
She is doing her best to pretend that Beau does not exist.
Buddy, a mutt who was dumped on us two years ago likes Beau.
They are both goofy with giant heads and enormous paws.
Buddy was sixty-nine pounds when he was dumped.
He now dresses out at one hundred and sixteen.
The puppy Beau is chewing dry wall, the legs of chairs, and my desk.
I brought home forty dollars of puppy chew toys, but they are not the ticket.
He wants to be close to me every second; it has made walking difficult.
Picture this.
You take a step, but there is a puppy head in between your knees for the next step.
Beau is now in the room with my husband’s drum set.
He has figured out his bark sounds even more fierce here
when it vibrates off the drums.
This is day two.
A pretty amazing day all in all.
Because I have always wanted a golden retriever puppy.

I have always wanted a golden retriever puppy

I plan to bring one home tomorrow
I need the delight she will bring

Golden retriever mama has her paws full with her six.
Without throwing in her own five pups into the mix.
Aren’t those kittens? Someone asks with surprise.
Yes, mama takes care of them all, she is the ultimate prize.
They roam around her like they think she is their mom someone said.
Because they do, agreed another. They have imprinted said Red.
She takes care of them, as if they are her own said the farm hand.
She is the leader of the show, the mama, the leader of the entire band.

Such a shame Genny our doggie pet
Our family golden retriever's life span is so short
They become loving members of the family
In fact she never asks for anything more
Than two meals a day which we strictly follow
And a bathroom break when needed
She is an absolute sweetie!
True sweet love!

My goddaughter searched
A sight on line found
Puppies from a farm
A short drive away
The puppies lined up
To see what to choose
Two females one male
A hard choice to make
She chose the male dog
My goddaughter has
One female and male cat
When they met the dog
The female greeted
The male ran upstairs
He was so angry
He hid in the room
His feelings hurt
The puppy was there
A puppy to to stay

Sadly our Golden is nearing the end
But still has a bunch more loving to give
Amazing how they win you over
In the heart where everybody lives
Fifteen years of warmth and sunshine
Miss Golden you have turned my crank
Sure wish you could live forever
But in reality we have much to thank
Sadly our Golden is nearing the end
She's hanging on for our benefit not hers
We should let her go with dignity
And bequeath her charms to her heirs

brown-headed nuthatch
sounding off in desert tree…
Bernie’s swishing tail
as he runs then peters out…
free bird in leafless mirth squeeks

For those who've never owned a dog
Your life has been missing a treat
The greatest feeling ever known to man
The epitome of love at your feet
Most loyal companion we've ever known
Our Golden Retriever is that
The most happy joyful disposition ever
We learn a lot from this fact
In spite of all of our many problems
These guys are always there
They cheer us up and help us realize
Life's simple secret is to share
Share the love that's in everyone's heart
Nothing's more important in life
Doggies know, pay attention my friends
Their loyalty gets rid of our strife

A day before our getaway to Miami
We got out the blue suitcase
And as it sat in our bedroom
Getting ready for spring break
Our golden retriever
Ever vigilante
Would not leave its side
Day or night
To go outside eat or drink
No
He could not risk being left behind
Thought it was summer
Going to the lake.

Sad Shiloh trots nervously across the frozen ground,
Hesitantly, then decidedly, sidling up to a new lady.
At long last has he a loving mistress found?
Will she rescue him from this place, so penned in and shady?
This golden canine, with body thin and coat lackluster,
Places his heart in her hand,
Hoping she’ll see the unrequited love he offers
As his glowing eyes implore her to understand.
She cannot turn away,
And her golden girl needs a brother,
So she promises with her he’ll stay,
That she’ll bless him with the love of a true mother.
Slowly, Shiloh sheds his sadness and learns to play,
His coat, now shiny, grows over healing sores.
He flourishes in mind and body each day.
Shiloh’s eager to please, but there is something more.
The lady realizes Shiloh cannot clearly see,
That’s why he bumps into things and misses in fetch games.
Her tender heart vows to accept what will be,
For Shiloh’s love has rescued her and her golden girl, the same.

Fiona, fair beauty, fleet footed and fancy free,
Flits over the field,
Full of life and fun, a joy to see.
She’s my Bonnie canine, sweet and good,
Loving and loyal, a regal golden,
Her tail held high, 'til coursing the woods.
Wild is my Heather as her namesake flower on the hill,
Pursuing bunnies, squirrels and birds,
Though only for the chase’s thrill.
Nairne, in Gaelic means “dweller by the narrow river glen,”
Which is she, when resting from her adventures now and then.
Oh, Fi, my darling girl,
How you’ve blessed my life and set it in a whirl!

Consider all the people of the world
many have never even heard the gospel
it's such a blessing to know the truth
that God is able to reach all in hospital
This hospital is for all spiritually sick
many think they're beyond God's reach
they've sinned too far for His mercy
but that's not so the Bible does teach
We don't know the day that God 'll call
open our hearts by His spirit to see
show us His great love He has for us
shown by Jesus dying on a tree
So never lose hope never give up
God's waiting for your pleading cry
He knows all about you everything in fact
His home in heaven ready for you so high
