Haversack hopes bring bitter crack
Next to nothing is brought back
Recalled promises all are lacking
Adding nothing but subtracting
Public messages are attacking
Better dreams start retracting
The finish line is protracting
People gather and start reacting

OHH!!! You Incessant Insect..
You make it hard to direct my energy,
Positively, Peacefully.
Why do you keep pestering me?
Investigating every inch,
Of what you can see.
I'm feeling the pinch,
The sting,
Them little legs Tickling,
In my hairs wiggling.
My hands are waving,
Slapping.
My Nerves are snapping,
I must be over reacting.
They must be attacking,
I'm retracting,
Packing my things.
Through the sound ,
Of buzzing wings.
Emotions are raising,
It's so FRUSTRATING.
Then my Heart Sings,
As Nature brings,
It's smallest and bravest,
Insects, here to test,
The patience of her subjects.
What we reflect,
Through are reflexes.
As my energy progresses,
Through this session.
Present in the sensitivity,
And bravery,
Of the incessant Insects,
Directing me.

The enormity of my kindness has swallowed this callous thing alive
No longer will it’s stains of red be left behind
For so long, I have proved as docile as the smallest mutt
Sealing my nervous growls within my chest
Still, this body remains a horror
Harboring rage at the very neck of my teeth
These fangs of mine grow wildly like a mother of millions
A point indefinitely filed to a blunt end
Retracting my tongue
I will remain kind
Speaking only the softest of words
I cure my taste for conflict once more

retracting from crassness
in order to protect our soul
although aversion manifests
we accept detractor’s ordained role
the ones who betray love
we notice they inwardly die
caused by delusion of course
in time all souls will wingless fly

We all have grovelled before men
No matter how proud, how often we won:
Few have not begged God for anything, ever!
I have grovelled & prayed dirty to EL ELYON: Most High
And humanity (we have a word here, UBUNTU) as I cried
When my foes found favor that Jesus 'promised' me
II
I ACCUSED GOD & JESUS IF UNFAITHFULNESS
almost retracting, repenting in minutes
But sure, I pray dirty sometimes
Even as I find a garden to dirty my hands
For becoming one with "dirt-y" Earth, changes dirt
And hurt THROUGH ANYTHING one is grateful for
III
Pray dirty dear Heart, if you have no help
Jesus runs the Universe, with Skin on
He got dirty on earth, too, never filthy
He can take abuse: crucifixion is no picnic
And is right on time, to the second, in rescuing me

Tongues of flame have fallen on me.
Deep down in my heart I can feel it.
In the epicenter it's concentrated.
It's not the pentecost day but I can feel it.
From the day I met her, I have known no peace.
My legs are restless, always in want to go for her.
My fingers very itchy.
Always demanding for caress her fine textured body.
To prop her mane is my want.
Everytime, a message pops on the screen.
Superfluous thrill descends down my spine.
Whenever my ringtone takes the atmosphere.
My ears echos her melodious hymnic voice.
My nights have become long.
Mayhem all night long.
Awaiting the new day to be born.
I can't cool the fire in my heart.
My mind an archive of her pictures.
Prints if her going and retracting.
All segment of my brain.
Triggering the fire in my heart.

She never had to retract her words
or her ideas
or her behaviors
or her opinions
or her attitudes
because she had been goaded and browbeaten into retracting herself
trained into submission by an expert seclude-her and abuser a long time ago

Survivors
by Michael R. Burch
(for the victims and survivors of 9/11 and their families)
In truth, we do not feel the horror
of the survivors,
but what passes for horror:
a shiver of “empathy.”
We too are “survivors,”
if to survive is to snap back
from the sight of death
like a turtle retracting its neck.

If you want your love to last forever
turn around midway and walk away
to go back in time and frequently savor;
Let the flame of love in you eternally burn
and let the longing perpetually churn,
Wherefore to pine and surfeit day by day
and keep the lure of love unfathomable ever.
Pluck and cherish a flower in its bloom
and let it go as the northern winds blow,
holding it too close then ought to doom.
To stay young and be loved forever
that time and distance never can sever...
then pay heed—how it ought to go
like retracting steps from a hushed room.

It is like all the other certainties
Were pipedreams reflective of the confusion you felt
When I walked in,
I walked in; into your chaos
Without knowing I added to it
Instead of retracting you swept me up
Causing more turmoil
Now we are floating on a carpet of disorder
Destination self-destruction

Staccato inhale
Eyes stinging like alcohol on a latent cut
Your kindness hurts
It bends back my arms,
My shoulders straining to remain attached.
Feeling trapped by my desire to be loved
And dreading its sequelae.
I fear your caring.
I am terrified to accept it.
Why, why, why, why do I want to retreat?
To be plucked out by a helicopter,
Immediately lifting, a forward disappearance
Whipping the air with its blades, drowning out your words.
I do not want to hear you.
I do not want to see your eyes;
Your brows meeting in the center.
I was unable to absorb the blow to my abdomen,
Innocently extending and retracting,
Not prepared for this moment.
Years of defense training, wasted.

We have come, eerie drummer
Worshippers to your rhythmic enclave
We have come, with palms raise up to heaven
To dance at your feet, to listen to the drumming of
Life's enchanted mist
We have come, intractable breeds,
Retracting bulk to knock on your door
To hail thee the drummer we do not see,
Yet your deeds so implicit.
Recalcitrant yet must we learn
Like suckling to Mother's tit
Thirsty for Life's succulent milk,
To dance with fate on our fettered feet.
Alas!
Rust is ripeness
Ripeness is rust
Like rootless stalks to shallow wind
we fall to ripeness
And to rust's repress
To sand...
And the end of our dance.
