What influenced our thinking to live life as DINK’S?
It wasn’t a thought out plan or following some craze.
No thought was given, now old and alone, it stinks,
Life memories are of early retirements and 401-K’s.
Be mindful of your decisions
you get “overs” only in the game of marbles.
Tom
When the lights go off
When curtains are drawn
When stillness settles here
I lie thinking
It is you swirling in me like feathers in soft winds or letters over an ocean
Like a little girl swings in spring time
Swaying slow
At the bus stops by the ways where vineyards grow
At times you try and hide
Some how your feelings show:
Puddled eyes, swaying hips both arms in a hold,
Drawing circles in the sand with the end of your toes
Over time you became so quiet
I left you in the stillness the nostalgic silence like the lost bow of a violin
Perhaps in time retirements
Perchance someday we'll find it
You fell and wept, I knelt as you bled, there's a scar that I've nursed on the side of your leg
Ja 'quelle
"I'm just popping out for the papers",
he always used to say,
"I won't be too long, so try to be strong",
he'd laugh, "whilst I am away".
Part of the ritual, the daily round
of retirements humdrum existence,
but comforting in its familiarity,
and enfolding in its consistence.
An aneurism they called it,
like a blockage inside a drain,
exacerbated by his running
to try to escape from the rain.
Some mornings now, I have to admit,
I get an attack of the vapours,
when I look at his chair, but then I think,
he's just popped out for the papers.
You hug your child and kiss the wife
And smile to yourself, what a wonderful life
Straighten your tie, polish your shoes
Check your phone for any news.
There’s no clouds to darken your day
Your life is well, just child’s play
Your future bright and retirements planned
Its one great big wonderland.
Another house another life
His wife is just causing strife
The kids crying really loud
There’s no sign of a silver cloud.
The booze is flowing
Cigarette ends glowing
The radio turned up loud
He is belting out oasis lyrics aloud.
The traffic is heavy and you’re in a hurry
you’re running late and start to worry
the car phone ringing the speedometer climbing
with your blood pressure rising
when the two cars they collide
the newspaper headline reads one drivers died
one life that’s cut tragically short
but its you not him who will be going court
I bet you wished you owned a crystal ball
Instead your staring at a cell wall
no more kissing the wife and the wonderful life polishing shoes and reading the news .
The air is crisp, and soft the breeze
A perfect day, is sure to please
Put on my fuzzy robe and socks
A perfect look, as cold it blocks.
Through the glass doors, as I look out
The squirrels are hungry there’s no doubt
Must feed them first, my meal can wait
They cutely beg, I take the bait…
Now they are fed, and I am too
I sit and wonder what to do
I’m warm and cozy, I prepare
To spend this time without a care.
And when the moment passes on
Enjoyed, although the moments gone
I think, how will I live this day
Vow not to worry it away…
I’ll do what I love most you see
For time is all that’s given me
To create, gives my soul a lift
To share a thought, to give a gift.
Pick up a pen, write, well maybe
Make a blanket for a baby?
I’m warm and cozy and content
Is this what retirements meant?
To do just what I want, or not
Many options are what I’ve got
Right now, I think a cup of tea
And after that, well I’ll just see!
Silent tears as friends hug restricted bodies,
Lingering awkward silences for moments long gone.
A hugs breath on his cheek as friends leave him alone,
Lingering smoke and whiskey shades tints the mind.
A parting quip and a crystal tear shivers in the air,
The gesture wave of failing friendship walks unsteady.
A lonely discomfort nips the soul, a hugs breath,
Clutching a card stained with friends pain,
He leaves for home and retirements reign.

Thru all the things that could be, and all the things that have been,
You, my son, have led your life… as if living it were a sin.
You’ve danced in all the confusion, the fallout, and the rain…
As we did try to join with you, to direct you to a life you could obtain.
Life is not an endless party, where the music will simply never stop,
And we can’t forever continue to be your ultimate, supportive, backstop.
The merry go round that’s circling will have to eventually stop and let you off.
And I know the world, for you, will be… at its best… immensely very tough.
So forget about the parties and set some long-term goals you can hold to…
Or when you’re old and all alone, no one will want anything to do with you.
They will have their families, their vacations, retirements, and their friends…
And if you don’t stop playing… you’ll have nothing in the end.
Storms are brewing,
our lively hood at risk,
retirements uncertain,
who caused this?
Soon a change,
will come riding in,
replacing misery,
with misery, all over again.
What will we do?
When our funds are
All gone...
When we reach for our retirements
And all we get is a sad song...
What will we do?
When our country lies in ruins
When there is no money
To restore our lives,
To restore our nation..
Where will we turn?
For a helping hand..
As others about us
Enjoy the harvest..
Of our lost.
Does our leaders not know
We are in great need?
Our people are losing hope..
As tho we were lost at sea.
Why must we suffer?
As we watch our highways crumble..
As we watch our love ones die..
Why must it be?
Answers we get makes no sense...
Where is the Americans
Tax dollars being spent?
We've worked hard
As the years flew by...
We helped many others
As our hearts led us to do..
But now with our Red White and Blue
Hanging by a thread...
What must we do?
To repair our country....
To repair our wounds.
We'll work meg a years in the rat race of life,
When we're quite young we deal with the strife.
With a boss looking on we watch what we do,
That's a for certain, everything seems so new.
Holidays are short and we can't go to far,
Maybe a casino or neighborhood bar.
It seems that our job gets harder each day,
Benifits are meagre when we draw our pay.
Don't be discouraged your just starting out,
You'll have several years, theres no doubt,
Just do your best, life will flow on by fast,
Look straight ahead and not in the past.
Co-workers around you can brow nose you know,
You can outdo them, put on a good show.
When you leave to go home your dead on your feet,
The evening is young you can dance to the beat.
Now your retired, you can have a good rest,
Golfing and swimming you'll do your best.
Money is fleeting, not too much can you spend,
Your pension is small, lucky you have a friend.
There you have it, retirements here,
Not much to show for work in passed years,
Things just go on in the rat race of life,
No longer you deal with bosses and strife.
