The art of creating a visual response to a piece of writing is known as a reverse ekphrasis ie the inverse of the centuries old poetic form of ekphrasis.

EMAGI is a recent (fun) variation of a reverse ekphrasis derived by the advent of the widespread use of hand held digital communication devices -where words in digital symbols /letters can be represented as a shape
and uses a poet's poem to inspire the digitised 'drawing'

Police cars block the side streets;
The avenue’s car-free
To make the strolling easy
For pedestrians like me.
The booths hold clothes and jewelry
And crafts of every type,
But front and center is the food,
Deserving of the hype.
Most every nationality
Is represented by
Whatever meals the chefs at hand
Can chop or stir or fry.
Aromas fill the neighborhood
As people buy and munch
A snack to tide them over
Or a more substantial lunch.
Distilleries display their wares
Near smoothies packed with fruit,
The locals and the visitors
In purchasing pursuit.
A lovely way to spend some time
On a fall-like afternoon,
Succumbing to the urge to buy,
To which I’m not immune.
The memories of autumn
when the leaves change
and the cool wind blows
often evolve around family
Picking apples, pumpkin patches,
colors of leaves combining
as my boys jumped in piles raked
together just for that purpose
Before they reached adulthood
and went their own ways
and illness settled in our midst
Autumn represented closeness and hope
While hope still exists, the autumn
breeze doesn't smell like it anymore,
and piles of leaves don't bring laughter
as the empty nest empties the festivities
Independence and death have separated
us from our boys, yet we still have each other
Autumn looks and feels so different, but this
is where hope and love rewrite the script
But the loneliness of Autumns past and joy
that will never come again in those ways
leaves a scar but beautiful memories,
that I choose to embrace and enjoy

colossal statues were three thousand years old
found in Sardinia in 1974
carved by the Nuragic civilization
depicting warriors on Easter Island
We thought they were only heads
Until someone decided to dig down
They are full-bodied
Buried up to their necks
How did they carve stone back in the day?
Is it odd kings were not represented?
Only archers, boxers and warriors
Many theories are bantered about
Easter island holds on to her mysteries
Intriguing and enticing archeologists
Keeping the Nuragic civilization alive
Three thousand years later
Perhaps that was the purpose?
As I knew it would
Do it did
Unexpected
Yet predictable
Her head was down
Dressed in that of pavement and concrete
As her soul
Represented in greys
She regrets
And I will that weight to be heavy
My hair doesn't grow
The scar is smooth and inane and quietly empty
The scars don't bother me
But I dream of revenge
Several it cold
But that is dreamt not acted
Then I saw her
Keep that head down
Shuffle on
In my quietness you escaped
But I. Your guilt you're dragged down
Not my hands but yours
Breathe in my ether
It will always be upon you
The end of a life cycle comes
And all anxiety goes blown
Like dandelion particles
Exploding across the universe
No need for a hearse
Onyx dreams against silvery stars
And white winds gently singing of heart
There is nothing and everything all at once
A feeling of peace unity and purpose
Floating towards emerald energy
A silver sample of souls’ symphony
Coming together like a universal song
Each spirit represented and received
Respected and loved in the light
That is now home
Some think that the initial spark was certainly God given
If you accept the concept of free will I'll give you that
Some blink and think that all man's gain is surely striven
I think and therefore I am among the ones who know no one can know
For sure and so I choose to go in thought somewhere I know
I must rely on what I see for what I state in fact and don't react
To what I can't relate to anything outside my mind as mine alone
When inner dialog is represented as a matter then, of course
Discourse recourse will be dismissed as lacking any standing
The audience is left with less demanding understanding
Handing tending of the fire to the arsonists for hire
With ready fire as their aim midst claims to have a plan
the desert was begging for a bit of green
underneath the earth was a verdant queen
she represented oaks, elms, maples and willows
she appeared on a Saturday, her hair in billows
The rest of the desert recognized her as royalty
They were gob-smacked by her beauty and pleasantry
She brought to the desert an oasis of greenery.
This livened up this dry spot, it seemed to me.
Visual premise of extreme stipulation of emergency declaration.

I feared so much before...
that unattainable grace
tornados of stone
a bad written story
with a desolating end.

that repeat itself
in different places
in different times
with different faces
like unleashed madness.

either I like it or not
unbearable silence
under wet sheets at night
I don't think many understand
what a space full of nothingness is.
And I could go on and on
repeating myself
like those endless novels
where everyone dies
then comes a new day
with knew pop stars
singing meaningless songs
acting without knowing their lines.

A man full blown
History being well known
The push for Civil Rights change
Opposition just couldn’t remain
Malcolm X name represented greatness
I can account being the witness
Malcolm X was no error, but a count on
Feared no one
A name that will always be remembered
Movement of achievement
Malcolm X was killed for civil rights he believed in
His voice like a woodman’s Ax
Loud and verbal
His time on Earth was allowed
X marks the spot
He was a man of like it or not.
