Last Friday before Memorial Day, a little inkling told me
My report card was not appreciated by Big Mama Bee
The door slammed against the wall and she stomped in.
I felt quivering and quaking from my knees to my chin.
Let me guess, I surmised. I failed nectar gathering, right?
She picked me up by my wing and shook me good and tight.
How dare you goof off at school, you know better than that!
She called Mrs. McClinty, a mean neighbor who ran to our flat.
The two women gave me the business, buzzing with dismay.
I was sorrowful now, there would be no honey today.
I promised to do better next year, if they let me go back.
We wouldn’t waste the teacher’s time again. You’d better pack.
They sent me to military school for mischievous bees who don’t mind.
It was a weird place, but I kind of liked it because the teachers were kind.
They took an interest in me, and helped me learn things I did not know.
I highly recommend it to all you other bees who are unusual and glow.

Report card day. Conferences with parents.
So many children are surprised when the truth comes out.
The parents act like they have not had four phone calls.
They claim their child never acts like this at home.
They are ladies and gentlemen at home.
They have never told a lie or stolen anything.
They claim this with a straight face
While their children are throwing things at their mothers.
As a child I was walking home from school one day;
It was a rainy spray;
A direly day;
We have gotten our report cards;
As kids we were running home;
In and out up and down;
Crossing the streets;
At the corners peak;
Running hard and fast;
Trying not to get wet;
Out of my pocket fell my report card;
I'm crying because I dropped .......
Down a storm drain, gone forever;
Are the written documentation of my first A's and B's;
Report card;
That fell out my pocket
In the rain
fallen lost wet down inside the storm drain;

He's going to have to turn it around
Getting himself on to stable ground
He's going to have to learn what I missed
He's going to have to learn all of this
He's going to have to learn one day
No matter how far along the way
As it will all come back
Showing all that you lack
He has to make a stand
To be in this land
It's all in a book
Don't give me that look
So I have to take that role
As I can't just dole
I must set the bar
If I expect him to go that far
