Reconnoitered Poems

In Ranks Did Discover Dissension

In Ranks Did Discover Dissension

While mumbling about then did mention,
Ended up going to a Trump convention;
Many had loitered;
Then reconnoitered;
In ranks we did discover much dissension.

End of Days

...inspired by 'The Salamander' by C.S. Lewis

The sun bore down with blinding rays,
the oceans boiled and came to nought,
it was withal the end of days
with every living creature caught,
when from the rocks, agile, adept,
a tiny lizard meekly crept.

With roughened skin and beady eye
he reconnoitered through the haze,
no stranger to a blazing sky
it lay in shade, at last to laze,
it raised his head, albeit weak,
and rallied, then began to speak.

"The Future of Mankind is sealed,
the devil's bell has tolled and won,
no recompense, no last appeal,
eclipsed before you have begun
to fight disease and lawlessness,
the hallmarks of your wickedness.

No light will break from yonder stars
to help you in your hour of need,
your destiny these blighted scars
that seal your folly and your greed,
alone with your predicament,
God's only live experiment.

To mess with Nature to your shame,
to disregard His Holy Name,
to vilify the Golden Rule
will label you the Biggest Fool,
death comes quick as you will see,
the bell has tolled, and tolled for thee."

Wooded Cottage of Highwayman

Nestled deep in the tawny, drab woodland
Sedate cottage neither haughty nor grand
Sparse hovel of unassuming, itinerant brigand
Martial decor of detached highwayman starkly bland
The etched path sculpted by intemperate hand
No manicured garden on the scrubby strand
Briers and brambles errant straggler must withstand
Thatched clapboards stable his stallion firebrand
Unruly swine garnish acorns from scraggly wasteland
Buried deep in his cellar pilfered contraband

Per chance drifter did the terrain assay
And chose that toilsome, forsaken way
A spartan welcome hauteur did convey
No lodgings, accoutrements could sway
If for grace, mercy they did pray
Only a cold shoulder he did relay
If they tested his temperance and sued for trite parley
He reconnoitered their belongings through wordplay
If no net value they were beguiled to betray
Their worthless lives he did indignantly slay

Trees

If Nature’s wrath we could appease
By sacrificing noble trees,
Then She should well be satisfied,
For scores of trees have up and died.

I reconnoitered city blocks
Where people stood, absorbing shocks
Of once majestic elms and oaks
Destroyed by Mother Nature’s strokes.

Some split in half, their branches strewn
And lives extinguished, years too soon;
So helplessly they languish, prone,
Their false facade of vigor blown.

The storm recedes, the damage done,
The clean-up barely just begun;
But roots and hearts alike were torn.
We sweep up limbs and leaves and mourn.

The Funky Train 1

Marauding through the suburban
 Merry-go-rounding through the  city landscapes,
 Marauding through the city ghettos;
 Merry-go-rounding through the Metropolitan,
 Marauding through the city gates,
 Spluttering armoured tank roaring and rolling on
 reconnoitered,
 Mobilizing blazing mobile container lopped out of control,
 Revving monster enthroned as the villain of the road,
 Wailing ramshackle, the knackered one hell of a horse-power
 plodded on,
 All knee-jerk wounded out in roughly cut steel;
 More the crawling millipede, speeding on roughly curl ruin
 city,
 A tangy flaming yellow lorry burnt into bleeding hearse
 lorry;
 Virulent virus attacking circulatory fortresses,
 A living daylight nightmare dream haunting folks,

 As the devouring beast fumed and purred proudly,
 Off debris fragrance suspended in lasting pall
 Gassing leering leaded blanket of Carbon,
 Attacking painful and searing sore-blindness as a bat
 And daunting shedding deadly poisonous mournful flowing
 tears;
