Now here in Aussie land, exists a very hardy native creeping vine
reputedly produces berry fruit that is tasting rather fine
Can one harvest fruit, now that's a leading question
It has long protruding sharp spiky thorns,
Maybe necessary to practice abstention
Now the man who took the time to give this plant a recognisable title, was he in lots of pain ?
affected by a thorn of the Cockspur, its common, but not botanical identifiable name
Life is a true and pure blessing
Yet, it comes with trials and tribulations
Weighing down heavy on human beings
Struggling to cope with life’s difficult situations
We share this earth with many a soul
In that we have no input , no say
We attempt to surround ourselves with the humans we like best
Try to keep certain individuals at bay
Sadly, we share our planet with some inhumane beings
‘The Unhinged’….the soulless who walk this earth
The ones who view life through blackened eyes
With a black heart and soul that knows no worth
Humans who incite and kill without conscience
Deriving pleasure solely from others pain
Void of remorse, compassion, empathy
Evil like blood…. flows through their veins
The Unhinged are not visibly recognisable
They do not look any particular way
We can only hope and pray that we never cross paths
With The Unhinged on any given day
Walking through the door of my childhood home
brought back tsunami of wisdom overture.
Tastes and colours in décor change with culture;
varied pallet of history in lands roam’.
My children had turned out to be a challenge
as they had early on displayed my talent
for examining and questioning latent
defects papered over; now seeking balance.
We’d a small, intimate wedding reception.
The wallpaper in the lounge is instantly
recognisable (like kin related distantly),
from the photos. No inkling of deception.
My parents had asked this sweet sixteen to voice
her preference for bedroom to replace staid
pattern reminiscent of a fabric plaid.
But they had vetoed black and white Op Art choice.
The celebrations of the many milestones,
spanning the blessed years of three generations
firmly recorded in the decorations;
layers of peeling wallpaper to bare bones.
Where did she go, that girl in the photograph?
Suspended in time, preserved like a fly
petrified in amber, and petrified by life.
Where is she now, that girl with furrowed brow?
Beautiful yet fighting for survival. Youthful
but prematurely aged by her woes, no highs
just lows and a catalogue of disappointments
to carry in the portmanteau of her existence.
Not a flicker of happiness as I look deep into the frame.
I avert my eyes and look into the mirror, and
there she is staring back at me. Older now
but recognisable; softened by the years somehow.
Yes, older now, and perhaps a little wiser.
Her beauty has matured like a vintage wine
and there’s no sign of the girlish angst that
once wrinkled her temple, or caused her to
hide behind a mask of false confidence which
covered the insecurity and fear that she felt.
Now she is strong, a few wrinkles of experience,
a little stiff and aching from the marathon of life,
but graceful and elegant in her later years,
and happy, yes truly happy now. The reflection
replaces the senescent photograph in my mind,
and reminds me that I’m safe and home at last.
Zebras
are bestowed
Black-n-white
striped coats
by Nature
to help them
confuse predators
keep horse flies away
But, it also makes them
more vulnerable
most recognisable
mammal even
from long distance !
Humans
are not bestowed
with unique identity
which can stand out
Humans have to earn
their own Stripes of
Character, Values,
Integrity, Sincerity
to be recognisable
irrespective of distance
Humans
have picked up idea
of Zebra Crossing
from dazzling distinctive
stripes of Zebra
to create safe
crossing of roads
and avert accidents
Humans
have not given
anything befitting
to Zebras in return
Humans have
put them in zoo
hunted them down
for exotic trophies !
Height of Irony
Zebra, wild animal
gives life saving idea
Human, tame animal
acts worst than animal
confines, kills Zebras

On the time scale of the Maker
Just the blinking of an eye
But on his latest Creation
Millennia had passed by.
The ko-ko-ko birds no longer
Did their burnished daily run
Circling the World under
The steady square Sun
For they, like the Tigrons, were
Now almost completely gone.
In the Maker’s absence so many
Sorts of things had moved on.
The Adam and Eve descendants
Had long left their garden behind
With any recognisable trace of it
Almost impossible to find.
The destruction of the trees
Now almost complete
Most of the areas of each stand
Covered with concrete
The light from the sun
Obscured on most days
By industrially produced
Acrid pollution’s haze.
No white clouds delivering
The rain as pre arranged,
The once perfect climate
Almost completely changed.
A species set on destruction,
Another experiment gone wrong,
Too late now because the Maker
Had left it unchecked far too long.
Moved to Creation’s outer limits,
Now left to either survive or fall,
Sadly the Maker decided to
Finally turn its back on it all.
Lessons had been learned
For that time if, and when,
New worlds would be created
And the experiment run again.
