should the sky fall,
let my last breath
praise Your existence
—Michael R. Burch

It ever was night,
yet in the darkness I found you,
shining, bright.
—Michael R. Burch

a last leaf
clinging to life
declines to fall...
—Michael R. Burch

the Universe,
dazzled by her beauty,
swoons.
—Michael R. Burch

Loneliness engulfs me
like an immense night
void of stars.
—Michael R. Burch

Crow
perched quizzically on scarecrow:
natural comedian!
—Michael R. Burch

Autumn leaves
swirling:
dreams aloft & imperiled
—Michael R. Burch

struggle to fit
into cramped too-small shoes:
tiny haiku
—Michael R. Burch

your easy smile
brightens the day
natural as wildflowers
—Michael R. Burch

a single silver leaf
on the old oak tree:
autumn moon

Layla, Lilly and Lollypop lollygagged through life
Making musical merry mischief for Mr. Farmer’s wife
Nestling near nasty Nicholas’ notoriously sharp needy knife
Optimizing oscillating orneriness’, forging a fit of fife
Practically perforating Polly’s pretty pastel pail
Quizzically questioning queenly Quarks quarreling quail
Responding with respect and responsibility, rendering road rail
Seductively seeding a sassy stormy sandy seductive sail
Trying to travel to Tripoli, to tie a terrible tiger’s tail

Mini mangy monster Marvin moo
Nearly never noticed anything new
Outrageously outgoing onset overdue
Plunking his plush posterior on a pew
Quizzically questioning Curly-Q
Respecting ruffians Brew, Grue and Rue.
Shimmying and shaking shivering Sue and Stew
Teaching talented Tommy Treachery too
Uniting understudies under the letter U
Vaporizing validation veering into valley view
Welcoming wild werewolf wearing blue.

Premium MemberThe Dance Of Anger

In fiery red costumes, anger dances fire ablaze.
Anxiety, pain, and isolation, from within, gaze
Garlands of skulls, bones, and spun veins are worn invisibly.
Bloody tongue ladle, like that of a hound, quizzically

Irritability, stress, and strain are in full posture.
Arrogance, annoyance, and aggression are their gestures.
Hostility, powerlessness, and rage in ballet blend
Assumptions amalgamate with negative assessments.

Veerbhadra, Narasimha, and Mahakali unite.
With Lyssa, Medusa, and Nemesis, they seem to fight.
As the butterfly and dragonfly metamorphosis
The dance of anger ends with a congruous catharsis.

The server asked: “do you want that here or to go?”
I replied quizzically: “if I eat it here don’t I get to take it with me?”

Her Star Filled Hours
                          ********

A life of such wondrous variety,
Can only by a curious soul be chosen.
     Like a glorious wildflower will~~
never want the glory of the ordinary rose's hour.

     She runs through hardest  times
     with spontaneity!
Being normal to her is a life of genuine ecstasy.
She is filled with limitless power.
Life is sweet, not bitter sour.

     She observes the common, quizzically.
A normal life to her is like wearing
     Leder-hosen!
To her, there's no such thing as scheduled hours.
It's filled with brilliant star filled hours, personally chosen!

Alone, she walks her joyful Welsh Corgi,
on streets of moonlit, damp Cobblestone.
To her small white cottage with green shutters, where few
     doth ever roam.
Humming secret tunes....known to her alone.

Insignificant

Staring at the Universe a speck of decaying dust, roaming like restless rust
A sovereign statue underrated & unjust, searching solitudes of trust
With a mirage of mirrors in my view, steering my soul to scantly skew
Meticulously moving quizzically on cue, banished beneath the blue

We are Nomads of the rising Sun, surviving the fields of oblivion as one
First, we crawl, walk then run…exiting the earth when we are done
We are but a tear in the oceans of time, drowning in a downhill climb
A speck of lamented light or sublime, a phantom peripheral pantomime

Dormant death encroaches with remorse, only to silence and enforce
Invader of dreams like a Trojan-Horse, never deviating from its course
Stay awake from this slaving sleep, taking away your breath with a sweep
Does the lion lie with the sheep, when we cross the abyss of the deep?

Villanelle No 1

Though looking back I wish I'd called a Doc
The optimist in me hoped you'd get well
Your death to me came somewhat as a shock

For I was sure I'd emptied out the Glock
I should have checked the chamber for a shell
but looking back I could have called a Doc

I still remember thinking "What the flock?"
And quizzically your face said "What the hell?"
Your death to us came somewhat as a shock

But once it fired your life was on the clock
And urgent care was needed, I could tell
so looking back I should have called a Doc

While these events have cured my writer's block
There's little else to do here in my cell
I've come to see your death came as a shock

With all this time to think I've taken stock
and weapons tips from those in here a spell
Though looking back I wish I'd called a Doc
Your death to me came somewhat as a shock

Summer Stillness

Summer pastes
Reddened complexion
Stars twinkle through
Darkness vividly
Lightening closes in
Red tones spectrum
Lonely star shoots
Westward, quizzically
And stillness overcomes
The night's welcome glory

Night creates
With golden symphony
A dew drop falls
From a solitary leaf deflection
Squirming in sparkling
Triumphant nativity
While laughing brightly
In pleasuring suspension
As summer's morning
Rambles petulantly

For Hunter

"...from time to time, he'd snatch his fingers in a flourish, hastily away from the seemingly white hot type writer, casting a quizzically cynical sideways gaze, at what he'd just written; as if waiting for each razor sharp sentence to cut him far deeper than their crazed origins behind his wary eyes..."

Yellow Flowers

You made me love yellow flowers
in the middle of July,
when everything was dying
because the ground was so dry.

You offered them to me
with the faintest smile on your face,
caressed the lemon petals
as you put them on display.

I looked at them quizzically,
questioning there presence.
You embraced me with laughter,
said they’re my essence.

You told me a short story
of blossoms and blooms,
and strength and survival,
in the midst of gloom.

And I fell in love with yellow flowers
because of the story you shared,
and I cherished their sunshine,
and the meaning they bared.

And then they were gone.

Along with you
and your stories and smile.

No laughter or embrace.
No petals or blooms,
sunshine or lemons.

The ground was dry
and cracked
and barren.

And I was alone,
with just a fading scent
and drifting memories.

You made me love yellow flowers,
then you took them away.

The Elegant Eagle and Watchful Wolf

My soul surrenders and soars like the elegant eagle
As my mind melds of the wolves wildly witted
Experiencing mother earth thru the eye of the needle
Frolicking forests as is perceptually permitted

The eagle explores over the running raging river
Thru eagle eyes I see the rivers enchanted edge
The wolf watches his prey who quizzically quiver
For both partake in a platonic paradisal pledge

I hunger like the wandering wolf and patiently wait
And the eagle takes me to far off landscape lands
For thus I use my written words as bantering bait
Thru poetic pacification my mind masterly expands

Of the watchful wolf and the elegant eagle
Admiring art perched on the artist’s easel.

Im Here

Opening my eyes to the sunlight
I'm reminded of your sweet face
The look you give me resembles your love
But your eyes pierce through me so quizzically
Like your not sure if your alone

I'm screaming to you
I'M HERE! DONT GO!
though you can't possibly hear me
through the loud actions that I make known

As the light fades and I close my eyes for the day
I loose my breath as I feel your touch
Manly and firm yet so loving and gentle
But your arms once ment to embrace me
Now fall to your sides in frustration
Your touch that once happened so freely now feels constrained

I'm screaming to you
I'M HERE!! DON'T GO!!
Though you can't possibly hear me
though the loud actions I make known

Slipping into my dreams so effortlessly
I see you just ahead of me
I scream to you
I'M HERE! DON'T GO!
you hear me this time
You turn to face me , arms stretched out wide
I run to you...you stand your ground
I reach you but you turn away from me
I fall to my knees as you walk off
I''m left screaming to you
I'M HERE! DON'T GO!
Though you can't possibly believe me
Through the loud actions I make known.
