A tree prepares for whistling winds
shedding her leaves, exposing her limbs
Naked then in the shivering cold
bark unchanged from summer’s whims
Icy arrows pierce her trunk
clumps of snow gather there
Would that Heaven sew her a coat
to watch her freeze ~ no man can bear
Deserts, forests, oases, mountains, and valleys called him
The cliffs that touched the skies had mystic wisdom to impart.
Within the waters of the endless Spirit, he must swim.
He should, like the spring sun, shine with Abba's sparks in his heart.
Forty days and nights, he fasted and prayed, the scripture says.
Shouldn't seeds stay in the womb of the soil to be reborn?
The galaxy of Trinity must shred its holy rays.
Earth and sky must meet. Virtues, like flesh and blood, must be worn.
Did the temptation to work wonders for fame win his will?
Did he, like Israel, fail in his love for his father?
Could the urge to act against the scriptures evince its skill?
The furor over the evils, hence, he did not bother
To fulfill the worldly rites, he received John's baptism.
Who did realize, then, that he was beyond any ism?
Ballpoint pens or sharpened pencils,
Scads of pads of virgin papers,
These are the tools,
The base utensils,
This poet needs for his mental capers.
Thesaurus and dictionary close at hand,
A steaming mug on the chairside stand.
Prepared, I wait with anticipation…
What's keeping that muse
With the inspiration?
E'er so oft the presence of breeze displays,
Through fluttering leaves of trees and branch sways,
A course, whereto, not set by the seasons,
'Tis the calm fore the storm being its reasons.
Days fore this, unbearable sweltering,
Heat intensity, felt so blistering,
'Twas shirtless men and loosely topped women,
It hit every locale, all was smitten.
In the distance, churning and swirling viewed,
Soon the dark immense will come as a brood,
And the present felt ease will become strong,
Set into motion that is not far long.
Unrelentless winds, and rising surges,
Rains, floods, and lightning, as the storm purges.

The student who prepares
Is on a mission to succeed
They are focused on their studies
They take the time to thoroughly read
Always wanting to do their best
Climbing every mountain and shouting out loud
Getting that degree is a top priority
So they can make their parents proud
Leaves have fallen down
Making colorful bed
Children hide and seek
Parents came with rake
Took the leafs away
Trees stand gawky
Bare to the bones
No leaf for dress
Not intended
Season new
Welcome change
Birdies flew
From nest
Empty
