I The spice of life
Lasr twenty years and there’s no halt,
In all my matters you find fault…
One more dear, be quite clear,
Twenty and one more year,
And we are counting still,
You take it when I deal,
Tell me if you have any alt.
II Rebirth
Where in the hell, have you gone dead?
Here, dear, the husband showed his head.
If there be a rebirth,
This was fastest on Earth,
And made quicker thanks to wife’s dread!
III Let sleeping dogs lie
A portrait painter to a man:
Your wife so alive paint I can,
You’ll feel, she just would walk
To you and start to talk….
Let sleeping dogs lie now and then.

Limericks |01.08.2023|marriage, humour
Poet’s note: These limericks give the taste of a peculiar salt called Indian marriage. It often rubs in the wounds, but still the spice of life all the same. Yea, the ‘life’ of married life without which marriage would look pale. It is this salt that marriages last here. As to the third limerick, here is an apology to my female poet friends. As you know well, poetry is not something to be taken literally. A metaphor’s tone and tenor is not for literal transfer.

Portrait Painter
We are by the creator
All made in different colors
We are all God's colors
People of many shades
Were colorless
Yet bless
~
God's the supreme... Artist
Portrait Painter
My bodies the canvas
And my God is the paint
He's liquidizes us
Makes us a beautiful art

a lone woman is painted
her face stands out for me
she looks so heavenly
although she has been painted stiff
there are no flowing lines
no graceful strokes
but the artist has captured
a deep sadness within her
and her painted rosy cheeks
the artist has captured her dignity
charm and demure
yet I feel her pain in his painted strokes
her gown is quite lovely
soft and rich
a forest green velvet
with white lace peaking out
she sits on a gilded chair
her folded hands
rest upon a white mink fur coat,
behind a window view
of a frozen lake and trees
her hair falls in lovely waves
though she appears posed and stiff
as was the manner in portraits
of the day

Unknowing, to delight or depress
his client with brush strokes light
upon the canvas, vanity to address,
bone structure, curvatures, highlight
qualities exposed by light and shade,
portrait artist sees imperfections
also the perfections that's on parade
exact likeness or slight deceptions,
studying sitter, performing mind games
creating facial expressions required,
to acquire the mood to fulfil their aims
of joy, happiness, contentment, inspired,
Perfection being a virtual impossibility
not knowing how his client perceive
themselves visually, the unpredictability
to create art work that will not deceive,
he knows he has the skills, experience
required to paint the image presented
before him with poise and reverence,
believing his client won't be disappointed
by his creation dedicated to their likeness
Imprinted on canvas in oils for all time,
viewed and commented on, assessed
by appreciative eyes making it sublime,
results will be finished by end of the day
hopefully his client receives it happily
Rewarding readily with his days pay
Enabling him to feed his loving family.
