There once was an old Pope from Rome
who had the Good Book a huge tome
an altar ego and mass appeal
so he made the Vatican home
2015 he addressed the environment
on climate change caused by man
and issued a Catholic Church encyclical
the first-ever since Popes began
let's trust instructing his cardinals
to avoid any more scandals
when pontificating and preaching to the choir
to burn less incense and light fewer candles
altho' it's a slippery slope here's the dope
and no I won't soft-soap
there's not much hope of Pope on a rope
but I can cope so I won't mope
now hear my voice as it's a choice
if I may be quite so bold
religion is discretionary not hereditary
and the herd of sheep in the fold should be told

Yes, indeed we have a new Pope.
I wonder, however, if we have a new hope.
As a matter of facts, we have two popes:
One is active and the other is passive,
Which means that one is inactive,
The latter was a hell of a man who shocked: folks,
Foes, rivals, parishioners and cardinals,
By resigning his post,
By becoming a different host.
He is still a holy man, in accordance to the latest polls,
A courageous priest, who reminds us,
That man is immortal and fallible.
Pope Benedict is enjoying his golden hiatus,
His retirement in a humanely divine castle.
I don't know much about the new one.
I can only hope that he is someone,
Who's at least similar or equal,
To the former, who was wise and simple.
May God bless his soul,
‘Cause he was able to realize
That he was becoming unable
To lead effectively, and to prioritize.
As a matter of facts, habemus duo popes,
Yes, indeed, habemus duo pontifices.

Do we allow the compelling mind to control our unwilling steps?
Do they obey or deviate from the path smeared with insecurities?
Isn't it sad to seek unfairness instead of much desirable closeness?
Many have adopted this absurd concept that leads to nothingness!
Incredulity is the changeless anthem of the cynical and the stubborn,
within their unyielding spirit lies the ultimate reason of self-treason;
they won't settle for anything less than a bundle of useless allusions:
their trust spurs from doubt, their anger can incinerate aspirations!
" Quell clamorous voices, hush their madness before unrest rises! "
Is this suppression or plain ignorance to compare the final outcome?
The enraged Vaillant emerges from the cussing crowd and shouts,
" Isn't it sad to seek unfairness and desert others that show pride? "
" We'll be defeated and furthermore humiliated, whipped or stoned
in public squares and the mob, as always, is devoid of conscience. "
No interlude can spare lives, no pardon from popes in fancy robe;
no tears from sobbing mothers can halt the ax that drips blood! "

A blessed soul has won a role, The Prince of Peace,
Of noble birth, a novice born a blue-blood,
Pontificate average those brevities,
Stemmed full of thorns wrangled beneath his rosebud.
Won The Papal States, Mona Lisa smiled, lost,
His tenure was mired in doubts--parts that he crossed,
A scorned tag as unfortunate of the popes,
A Florentine, a Medici, useless hopes.

Adam's equivalent came a long time before Eve.
Born not from a rib, but from dirt and seed.
God gave her the right to be the first one.
To expose her religion and what it's done.
They wrote her out of the Bible way, back when.
Filling in the truth, dominated by men.
She reminds me of Granny, upfront and outright.
Where nothing's going down without a serious fight.
Through Popes and Pimps, Lilith no longer exists.
But she's the kind of woman I'd teach my kids.
She wouldn't bow down to any threat from man.
Read the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament.

America: A people residing in a place where all is for one, and one is for all.
Where the many(majority) acknowledge the rights of the
few(minority).
Where everyone has the right to become whomever one pleases, or
not to become if one so chooses.
Where rights are both a gift from God as well as earned among men.
Where I, you, we, them, and also they are born to be free and raised
in justice.
Where cultures confluence and flow like a peaceful and life-giving
river.
Where authority is inspired and established, not by kings and
queens, popes and priests, madmen and dictators, but by righteous
laws chosen by the people.

Three Popes died within six years
I wonder if what killed them
were the sum of their fears
Could the cause be what they
covered or uncovered
The bible speaks of kings
who's wickedness God discovered
Historically their causes
were just and awed
But Heaven alone judges
the guilt of it's laws
It took six years to stop
the naming of angels
And the most we don't know
because of their angle
So just for the record
I'll untangle the tangle
Nine angels minus two
so scholars can tango
Michael the warrier
"Who is like God"
Gabriel the messenger
"Powerful Man of God"
Raphael who sometimes stirred
a pool
"The Healing of God"
Uriel Who protected John the Baptist
during Herod's wicked rule
"The Light or Fire of God"
Salaphiel
"The Prayers and Communication of God"
Jegudiel
"The Glory and Praise of God"
Barachiel leader of guardian angels
"The Benediction and Blessing of God"
Thrones, Dominions, Virtues, Principalities
Powers, Archangels posses
Cherubim and Seraphim
are even Angels none the less
( A few riddles included )

The Pope is
the Bishop of Rome
is the Vicar of Father Christ (Jesus) on earth
The visible Head of the Church
Successor of St. Peter
The supreme ruler of all Christians
He is the supreme judge in all matters of faith
Morals
In pronouncing upon which he may exercise unerring
His office is called the pontificate (or papacy)
As possessor of the keys to the kingdom of heaven
Gifted with unerring or certainty
The Pope keeps the doctrine of the faith pure
Acts as the center of unity in the Church
His office is a royal one
As represented by the triple tiara traditionally worn by the popes

God speaks to me,
His scriptures comforting
my tongue and ears –
His living word, a sweet
accompaniment~ we are
lovers, heart and soul
spiritually entwined...
I am reminded of
that rural church, a
primitive bench for two
or more
far apart from the
transcended mockery of golden
cathedrals, with magnificently stained
panels, popes and kings imagining that
it is possible to gild and paint one's
way into heaven
(a cat leaps into my lap – we have been
writing buddies for some time now; his
insistence for a pet reminding me that all
my high minded thinking has taught me
nothing, if I do not interrupt, and commence
with the honor....)

I
Paul warned his "son" Timothy, On Guard
In the end time, many false prophets disguised
Even as angels from heaven, will tickle ears
And many will be led astray; Jesus is "too much"
To take, one in Adelaide told me:
The Bible takes you that much, "eyes" that see
Know the apple was really a "sexual act" in Genesis 1
Brennan (Branham, yes, Anaya) tells them much more
About serpents and Adam who didn't sin
So blame Eve & Women, Jesus needs help
From prophets born in modern nations we know ...
Where does it end? Spoken Word & other "church" finds a new prophet
Who teach us how to read The Word --
As the Popes, priests, Pharisees did
Roundly rebuked in Matthew 23
How easy: heretics say, they alone can see
Jesus had an answer there too (John 9)

Mind if I tell you, honestly, I’m a Libertarian
A firm believer in the free will of the individual,
A strong promoter of individual liberty …
I have always called it “the priesthood of the believer,”
The right to come to my own philosophy of religion,
No hierarchies handing down edicts and creeds;
No Popes, no judges, no “soul superintendents!”
Politically, I believe we have too much government
Infringing upon our individual lives; that we, the people,
Are being over-taxed without sufficient representation
By those we elected to consider our General Welfare:
Who take us to war, while never having fought in one,
Who take our money, while not hearing our voices.
Who obfuscate and then…well, tell us outright lies,
Who do not defend our liberties, but steal them
Away from us little by little; and, one day we shall
Awaken and wonder what happened while we slept!

The odor of turnips,
of seasoned cabbage water - borscht
flushed through musing kidneys.
Listening to Zhukovsky, Vysotsky, Tyutchev,
not comprehending a word of it.
Working my way backward
through an alphabet that echoes
proto-Slavic roots and chugs.
Muses that are a gloved slap of love,
an aching tooth,
a fondness for black-ice
words that gnaw wet socks and fingertips.
Suspicions wriggle like long dead Popes –
the smell of tobacco and damp sheets.
A dusting of earth shaken from chilled rhizomes.
Words simmer like sleeping Cossacks.
Whiffs of green water, grain, and potato,
the anguish of bruised beets.
A poetry that peels onion,
a crop used
in the pickling of cucumbers,
and other forever preserved romances.

At the very pinnacle of the authority chain, heaven reveals the necessity for government
Rivalry against God from the hands of Lucifer demanded policing and a chief among angels
Contrary to the belief of many, self-government is ideal, but it does not work universally
However, humans will often go beyond the line of necessity with too much government
Barriers, borders, and limitations are one thing; 'Overreach' and 'Bureaucracy' are another
In the New World of the early settlers, they desired a government without bishops and popes.
Similarly, the American style of government was enameled with vital 'Checks and Balances'
Holy men had to be held accountable, and 'the divine right of kings' was simply anathema
Once I heard it said that the governments that govern best are those that govern less
Power in the hands of mere men must always be linked directly to God, the source of all power

An archbishop was seen by me only on TV or at the movies.
Rather an uncouth character played the part of an archbishop
Critical outlook on a respectable title but that is Hollywood for you
Hierarchy would place individuals of this caliber to being pope
Being absent to catholicism, my view is based on an edited version
I hope the proof is near for a weight of pomposity sparks curiosity
Some measured austerity by the lowly masses is an amicable need
Hope that the meek will assure their necessity to maintain focus
Only they can keep the lineage of the church as being their life origin
Popes (archbishops) will stand next to paupers on judgment day -- titleless.
