Premium Member Imagine a Mermaid

Imagine a mermaid,
she throws her buxom body
onto the granite rock.

She is steady, will not slide
unlike the terrified witnesses
that dare not
damp their feet on blackened rock.

The warning clear
but one tongue leers
wanting to touch the magical fish.

Thinking himself Poseidon,
dangerously possessed,
he towers over her,
sliding lower and lower
onto the sea-lapped boulders.

The mermaid with pouty lips
and a bodacious hip ignores him,
as the ignoramus platypuses* himself
toward the sea whip.

The stupefied landlubber
suddenly seized by fear
as mermen with spears, diamond sharp
surround the prize.

his slip seems to linger,
then the ocean lifts him higher and higher —
lets go.

the fool likely to be speared
forgets his lust.

suddenly the spears disappear
and a tail as furious as a sharks
bats him out of the park.

it takes some time
to get the tourist down from the lighthouse spire.

no one will believe what wonders
cannot be erased from the eyes.

platypuses - made this into a verb
sea

A Cayman and a squirrel monkey held a party in the trees to celebrate the arriving rains which brought the food. Such abundance. Such vibrancy. Hues and soft flights of colour were offered by the squawking ones whose chatter was heard amongst the tree tops. Powerful heat blasts from the ignited ball in the sky kept all warm. Far from freezing. Swim then. In and amongst the purple flowers next to the constant rush of water. Tepid. Losing such a place is a loss indeed. Lungs of the earth. Trees breathing. Playful professional platypuses. And who would argue that the fauna brings the human healing? Possibly pharmaceutical companies. 1% is a rather silly amount to invest time into cures from thus incredible naturally formed ecosystem. And chattering monkeys swing low but aim high. As the woven web spins. A spotty frog grins. And a snake claps enthusiastically. Good. Xxxx oxidization z

Lying on the hilltop
like moments in a dream,
the beauty so extreme,
when the blowing winds stop
I look through the treetop
and spy a monotreme.

Platypuses pass by
as wombats waddle through,
followed by kangaroo.
Emus could never fly
but they will always try
or wind up in a stew.

Strutting mist, slow and proud
animal shapes in clouds.

Collective Nouns

A group of fish is called a school.
A bunch of whales, a pod;
And crows comprise a murder,
Which I’ve always thought was odd.

Many goats become a tribe;
Lots of apes: a troop.
Hares: a warren; chicks: a clutch
And geese: a flock, not group.

Squirrels form a scurry;
Antelopes create a herd.
Platypuses make a puddle,
Which just sounds absurd.

Bats, a colony do make;
Butterflies, a flight.
Oysters congregate in beds;
For hamsters, horde is right.

Collective nouns are lots of fun.
Let’s bring this lesson home:
Many rhyming lines like this
