Looking down from somewhere up in the sky.
Mickey Mantle and Duke Snider stand by.
Below, Bronx Bombers, all in their pinstripes,
come out swinging their bats, taking their swipes.
Dem Bums have Shohei Ohtani and Betts.
Get ready, this is as good as it gets.
"Play ball", says the ump, to a lightning flash.
Big bats heard o'er the land, a thunder crash.
It starts raining as, out of the park, it flies.
Is it Mantle or Snider who cries?

The Escape Artist
David J Walker
He was
Well dressed
In a Goodwill sort of way
Pinstripes down his
Breast
Cuffed at the end of
Each long leg
Shoes buffed
Into mirrored shine
Checking his Canal Street Rolex
For the incorrect time
This is how his
Day goes
Blowing Orbicular grey smoke
forced through his churlish nose
Awaiting the arrival of
The next Greyhound bus
That necessarily must
take him
Anywhere else

WILTING TULIPS
beauty in wilting tulips
pink and white pinstripes
the relation with wrinkles
a soft tissue that wipes
away and leaves behind
cheek-y kisses of yesterday
a twinkle in the eye
rewind of the reel
that love remains
after each flower fades

Petunias share shades of blue
with velvet centers gilded gold.
And white pinstripes enhance each hue,
marking petals vivid and bold.
Roses boast scented scarlet swirls
with crimson centers at their hearts.
And velvety, magenta curls
that exceed the sum of their parts.
Tulips mimic majestic bells,
flaunting colors from plum to fawn.
And their waxen beauty excels
in tints; only Nature can spawn.
Daffodils form trumpets mellow
with green pistils, cinnamon crowned.
And stamen are dusted yellow
where nuggets of pollen abound.
Flowers are Nature's living gems,
a plethora of rare jewels.
And in clusters or single stems,
when all is said the flower rules.

As just about everyone knows,
New York City has five boroughs.
You could be standing in Queens or Manhattan.
Living could also be in Staten Island or Brooklyn.
No other borough has what we have here.
Everybody has heard of the “Bronx Cheer”.
The Bronx is familiar with that infamous sound.
The boys in pinstripes have endured many a round.
Stick your tongue out, put your lips together, and blow.
To voice your disapproval, that is the way to go.

Here in October of 2008,
all Phillies fans are feeling great.
The boys in pinstripes just won it all.
They are the champions of baseball.
The team’s play did certainly enthrall.
On Broad Street, everyone stands tall.
For just the second time in history,
the Phils won the ultimate victory.
Four games out of five, they beat Tampa Bay.
The Rays are the team that had to pay.
Even though it is too crowded around here,
it is the right place and time to celebrate and cheer,
I only have one more line to rhyme.
We will remember this moment for a long time.
