Premium MemberAvian Calling

Birds tweet beside my window
  all through the summer night
An endless chorus of chatter
  until the morning's light

They pause then, perhaps for breakfast
while I bury my head in my pillows
Then just when I'm finally sleeping
  they resume their peccadillos

Premium Member'The One'

"The One" is...

someone who
     thinks you're beautiful, inside out
from head to toe...morning, noon, or night

someone who
     shoulders half your burdens,
attends to the smallest of your needs

someone who
speaks the same language you do,
and helps you grow emotionally and spiritually.

someone who
makes you feel good about yourself,
loves and accepts you, no matter what.

someone who
     giggles away your peccadillos;
          forgiving and forgetting them all

someone who
is a person of faith; prays for you
in good times and bad; who's patient with you

most importantly
     someone who
          loves you unconditionally

Polka Dot Crazy

My uncle's polka dot bow-tie is markedly symbolic,
For he has been, throughout his life, a fervent spotaholic.
His patient wife, dear Dottie, with whom he is quite besotted
Will only buy him underpants if suitably bespotted!

Punctilious with spellings, it will come as no surprise,
That he delights to cross the T's and gaily dots the I's.
And even as a lad when bad concussion laid him low,
To see those spots before his eyes had minimised the blow!

So when he goes out walking with his pet dalmation,Spot
His coat aburst with polka dots, he doesn't care a jot!
I doubt he'll ever mend his ways for everybody knows
'A leopard cannot change his spots' - or so the saying goes!

Kitchens Are On Fire

There’s a lot of smoke
blowing out the backdoors
So many kitchens on fire ...
trapped aprons trying to get out
Smoke detectors are broke,
cries for help too long ignored
So many choking on forced desire ...
sexual peccadillos baked into every chore
But nothing is minor anymore
Major societal shift ... rumblings shaking
the good ol’ doughboys to the core
Smoky backroom kitchens on fire ...
those masculine hands feeling on the wrong hose
Executive boardroom kitchens on fire ...
those emperor hands changing into the wrong clothes
There’s a lot of smoke
billowing out the kitchen window
Silent screams for help too long ignored
So many kitchens are on fire ...
burnt reputations in the oven,
with the flames getting higher —
Reaching into the highest power places,
blackening the rich ash-covered faces
Congress basement kitchens on fire ...
those sworn hands
in the wrong bosom apron dropped on the floor
Presidential penthouse kitchens on fire ...
those privileged wet hands
groping lustily for the wrong padded backdoor
The kitchens are on fire,
here in America
What will it take to put the fires out,
to snuff the smoldering hysteria?

Life is so full of variables I've discovered
With a new set of rules, we're constantly smothered
Must be a strong superhero
Not your breath, you peccadillos
For fear of turning green, our schnauz we must cover

Life is so full of variables I've discovered
With a new set of rules, we're constantly smothered
Must be strong like a superhero
Not just your breath, my peccadillos
For fear of turning green, our schnoze we must cover
