how did he get painted? a child asks me.
An artist and paints went up in the tree.

Does he ever come down? the child asked.

on this form
falls this force,
this elemental motion
brings to bear a center,
a thread woven inextricably
from a patterned death.
a modality of means,
pulled tightly but
too Abundant to refuse breath.
a willfull sword cleaves
the self from
any wretched root,
the dead leaves' fall
gives life to limb
and flame
as flame gives
light & blood
to our backs
