Mama taught me to remember the celebrations
The ninth spoke to me
Remember me
Remember him, who sits alone
with his purple urn
Her ashes, not the same
The clinks and cheers,
a shame
Her lips would sip from his glass
He’d plant a kiss
The honor, we miss
Now, near her frame, her smile inhabits
the room, but mama’s presence
is ash, contained
Wedded bliss so missed

Mom and Dad, holding paper hearts, come to life in this photo taken on their 60th Anniversary. On the second line of this poem love-s-miles can be read two ways. Love smiles for the time my parents were together or Love’s miles since Mom passed away.

DIAMOND JUBILATION
I’ll be dripping with diamonds today.
They’ll parade proudly on my chest.
For the proliferation of the best day
Spent in honor of my parent’s crest.
Small sparklers a joyous sampling,
Little butterflies latent potentiality —
Breaking the sound barrier of reality
In their quiet splendiferous offing.
The little danglers will spread their wings
Sailing across the turquoise sea
The expanse and depth of its glory —
This cheerful celebration means much to me.
The jubilation of precious jewels.
Twins to others — but to themselves —
Sixty years of pulling together the cool
lifetime of love and happiness like no other.

Do you feel the air today?
Your breath as diamonds fill the space.
The jewels cascading, twirling, romancing.
Did you notice your feet no longer touch the floor?
Floating, in disbelief; gratitude
at the forever after spice of life.
Your wrists ribbon’d together —
It’s been a pleasure.
Time moves so fast but it’s so full.
Paradise could be so sweet
underneath the moon and stars.
Thursday of your dreams.
Diamond Jubilation —
Fills the trenches of your cheeks
Young at heart and awfully sweet.
