If I could hit pause.
If I could hit replay.
Just for one more day, to not overthink or sink.
Just to converse and try not to curse.
To not be overly friendly or overly petty.
To not be overly stark or overly dark.
Maybe one day.

There's a voice inside my head;
I've tried to shut her,
over and over again.

She speaks my language,
but I don't want to understand
her painful words that make me feel just average.

She says she knows what's best for me
but she's nothing more than a liar,
because she's just a voice inside my brain.

I'm sick of her talking,
because everywhere I go,
she keeps on her painful talking.

Maybe I should ignore her,
because this is hurting hard inside my chest:
but how will I do this, if she's inside myself?

I feel her under my skin,
she's now a part of me;
I whish it didn't exist.

She judges my moves,
my decisions and my ideas,
even my own damn words.

Now I've talked with her,
she has spoken with me,
she has confessed.

Her, ladies and gentlemen,
is what they call:
to overthink.

Overthink

What curious charge to press 'pon lover -
that he "overthinks" - therein his mistake.
When he feels fire difficult to cover,
while innocent passions keep him awake.

The only p'wr prompting hesitation
is perception -correct- that you don't feel.
Thus tortuous math, sour consternation:
Duty to realism or the ideal?

Intuition suggests looming failure,
but still, perhaps, the truth should be revealed
rather than cast to sea by a sailor.
My heart - small sacrifice- it shall be healed.

Cautious? I am - but also greatly dare.
I overthink things, dear, because I care.

Often I overthink
And my thinking goes askew
I feel myself sinking
And overthink anew

I question every aspect,
Of every written word
I try to find the meaning
Of complicated words.

I am in awe of others that write,
Their pens flow with ease
And their spelling is always right

Their pen paints pictures.
Of every shape and size
And tells a story
Of how they feel inside.

Their writing is precise,
And detailed in every way,
Written with confidence
With their talents on display.

They would not get befuddled,
Or confused or overthink
Their brains don't get muddled
Because they are succinct.

Not To Overthink

The light evening meal
Served under moon and stars,
Flickering candlelights whilst
Writing our memoirs.

Classical music;
Beauty to my ears,
Gazing up to Venus, Mars,
Thinking biospheres.

Accidentally tapping me
Underneath the table,
Glimpsing in my eyes
Like you’re ready and you’re able.

The buzzer sounding beeping
We both place down our ink,
A time to relax and
Not to over-think.

Carefully pour the wine
Smooth fruity chardonnay,
Happy cheers in unison
Homemade herb bread on tray.

Bread it tastes so earthy
Enjoying much to nibble;
Bread it is so yummy
Smiles, Winks…giggle.

Beginning on the soup
You made for me with care,
Organic hot tomatoes
OBSTRUCTION lack of air…
From Your human hair!!!
You just sit there on your lawn chair,
And glare and stare.
I want to swear and swear…
Though I’m choking and in in
In the middle of nowhere!!!

Overthinking

Here I am lying on bed, overthinking
Listening to sad music, hearing all the lyrics
Choosing which one explains better what I feel
I’m replaying what happened on that day

Why can’t you say the magic word?
Is there a reason why you can’t say it?
Have I been lying to myself that everything will be okay?
I’m waiting for you to utter those words

7 letters 2 words
That’s all I ask and everything will be forgiven
I’m having thoughts that maybe deep inside you hate me
You’re the only one who can save me from this sea of thoughts

It's quite simple
Don't make it complicated
Don't make it complex
Don't make it compromising
Let the words fall
Gracefully
Gradually
Graciously
Illustrate a heart with love
In an echo chamber of laughter
Holding hands can be poetry
If only we rhyme together
If only we stanza together
If only we couplet together
A world of couplets
Is a world united
A world defiant
A world valiant
It's quite simple
Don't make it hard
Don't make it difficult
Don't make it challenging
Don't overthink it

Go with the flow
Where zephyrs blow
Parallel the weather
Light as a feather
Set it adrift
Life is a gift
Open your heart
Play up the part
Let your mind soar
Your passions roar
Wonder if you have a hit
Stop don’t overthink it
You risk paralysis
With excess analysis
Set your dreams free
You be you and I’ll be me

Premium MemberSpeculating Yourself To Death

She speculated in the morning that the dump truck might not come.
But it did.
So she worried that it might fall apart in front of her driveway, blocking her in,
But it did not.
She then speculated that the garbage man might ask her for a cool drink of water,
So she took it out,
But by the time she had laboriously climbed the sixteen outside steps
And finally arrived at the curb, the enormous green garbage truck was gone.
She speculated that the driver had sped up so he would not have to drink her water.
Not entertaining a single thought that she might have been wrong.
She is luxuriously swinging in her freshly-painted porch swing now,
Worrying over and over that her mailman might trip over the rusty garden rake
That her husband left lying across their sidewalk last night.
What if he breaks his neck? She thought.
What will we do then?
Will he sue us?
She spent the whole
Day worrying and
Speculating.
Never thinking
To simply
Move the
Rake.

Premium MemberOverthink Words That Are Said

Do you ever doubt what other folks say,
Do you mistrust their intent?
Do you walk around reworking their words,
Living a mental torment?

Overthinking short bursts of simple remarks,
Overthinking the words that were said,
Overthinking those comments filling all of your mind,
Comments filling up all of your head.

If you are be aware that most of what’s said,
It’s forgotten, blown away to the sky,
Blown away and never considered again,
It’s just you that’s left thinking why.

Why did they? When did they? Where did they go?
Who is it they think they have seen?
Leaving you confused with thoughts of your own:
“I wish they’d just say what they mean.”

Each of us live for the moment
As none are promised time
Not knowing which is our last
We make choices with that in mind

In life we bathe in beauty
Often to drown in sorrow
Paying the price with our tears
From troubles earned and borrowed

Immensely exaggerated caricatures
Overthought problems become distorted
Examining both sides of an issue
Inclinations can be easily supported

Of all of the powers we're given
Choice being the most distinct
Overthinking a problem is time wasted
Be objective but succinct

Every choice will lead to another
But our time quickly remits
The objective is to have a lot of fun
And leave little time to regret it

Don'T Overthink It

Zero Tolerance
For all your half-assed plans
From now on I do what I want
I will go off what I feel is right
I have no time for analyzing
I need to FEEL now
I need to LIVE now
No more wondering how to play this straight
I'll stare straight-faced, I won't hesitate
See, why would I want to make you bastards wait
Thank god I got this chance, now I can say
"I'm gonna do what I WANT!"
