A Skilled Care Unit
Faces racked with pain,
no medicine can cure.
Sad and alone, no one
comes to visit.
Bedridden, confined to
wheelchairs, nowhere to go.
Pacing the halls, doors locked,
prisoners at the end of life.
Memories of laughter, family
outings, salt, sea air, cookouts.
All slowly fading now, freedom
lost to old age and infirmities.
Life condensed to a single room
with death the only escape.

Autumn is one of the best seasons
Simply for a few very different reasons,
The weather permits for all outdoors social events
Relief from the temperature of the suns torments,
Enjoy lunch or dinner out on a restaurants patio
Cool nights to enjoy walks for last round of cardio,
Walk your furry companion without heat stroke worry
You can enjoy outings without scorching heat advisory,
Autumn weather seem to have a good temperament affect
Some enjoy the life cycle of the tree leaves changing effect,
The notion to keep a hoodie or jacket handy for cool nights
Don't forget the eating contests, carnivals too; Oh that's right,
These were some of a few different reasons
That Autumn is one of the best seasons.

Do you think we’re the sort of girls to sit around on a Sunday night?
EAH (loud buzzer sound) you’d be wrong!!
What’s the opposite of seasonal depression - seasonal euphoria?
I’m self-diagnosing here, but I think I’ve got it.
I have all the symptoms:
Excessive happiness: a level of joy statistically improbable.
Compulsive smiling: grinning under the most mundane circumstances.
Irrational optimism: the feeling everything will turn out all right.
Compulsive socializing: relentlessly engaging in parties and outings.
Impulsive behavior: capricious decisions that lead to.. stuff.
Difficulty focusing: trouble concentrating on ‘serious subjects.’
Increased appetites: A craving for.. everything fun.
I have to call it. The symptoms are limpid, my diagnosis is:
Summer, seasonal euphoria, and it feels pretty good.

Two toddlers laughing and playing in the sand with balls and toys.
Their sweet friendly nature, being together, each one enjoys.
As the two friends grew and are now all of seven,
One’s parents are loving, the others are in heaven.
One has pretty clothes and views the world with delight.
One yearns for kind words and a hug at night.
Life goes by and now the two are turning eight,
Watching for someone to love her, one child will wait.
Music and dancing and parties are all part of life for one.
One is lucky to be an orphan when all is said and done.
For her life could have been worse with an addicted mother.
But its outings and dolls and making a fairy garden for the other.
Life mooches on now they are ten, life is glitter and ballet shoes,
Or its second-hand clothes and pre-loved toys to amuse.
Wonder there is now, being a teen, with jewelry and brand name jeans.
For some that is, and for others, growing up fast is what it means.
One looks forward to prom dresses, friends and dates with boys.
The other looks back to playing in the sand, laughing with balls and toys.

Ups and downs
We experience throughout the year
Down in the dump at one moment
And jump with joy at another
Feelings can be controlled by our emotions
Or the surrounding
Or the weather
Or simply out of control
The epidemic comes and goes on and off
Lingering
Hiding somewhere
Peeping and waiting
Causing prolonged sadness and depression
Restrictions on outings and dine-ins
Hindrance on business activities and intimate contacts
Wow what had happened to this world
Are we and our feelings going to be controlled by the virus
Signifying a war between man and the virus
Instead of a war between man and man
Man and the alien
Man and the other planet
A paradox to be solved indeed

Candles and nightlights flickering bright,
blackout curtains shutting out the moonlight.
Snuggle down cosy with blankets tight,
perhaps the war will end to-night.
Dripping setting from Sunday's roast,
spread so thick on Monday's toast.
Meat bones simmer on the old gas ring,
Pa's homemade soup,the 'real thing'.
Paper chains cut and glued,
beer in glass bottles brewed.
Christmas puddings with threepenny bits,
the Meccano present made to fit.
Sunday school outings upto Coombe hill,
my first ever train ride,so quite a thrill.
Walks over corn fields to the Bugle Horn,
crisps and lemonade upon their lawn.
A weekly soak in a round tin bath,
towelling off by a fire in the hearth.
A viewpoint from childhood scene,
growing up at sixteen,Beech green.

Our circle of friends is now broken;
the changes it's made are unspoken.
From twelve to five- now just a token;
our circle of friends is now broken.
Each year, one or two of them- leaving
to move away- kinfolk receiving.
Some- too ill for outings- home cleaving;
and others in Heaven- we're grieving.
Our circle is broken- despairing-
so missing the unified caring.
Those left behind- slowly repairing
to do our best- changes forbearing.
Our circle of friends is now broken;
now leaving those left so heartbroken.
Our fun dates are empty- not open;
our circle of friends is now broken.

A longing look back at dusty thoughts
colors my musings of childhood days.
I miss my Mom's hugs, cross-country trips,
and phantasmagorical picnics.
My imagination starts to stir;
conjuring up past visions of fun.
And I wish that I could go hog-wild;
or switch curiosity back on.
Thinking about family outings
instantly summons up happy thoughts.
My mind oft lovingly looking back;
at a past without guilt or worry.
Occasionally; I wish I could
go back to what I had long ago.
For a pang of nostalgia calls forth
an amalgamation of lost joys.

Arthritis dictates much of what I do,
Relenting sometimes, though. Then I will be
Elated as I feel my strength renew,
Take walks pain-free and do, with energy,
Housework without completely wearing out.
Each week I see more wrinkles and gray hair.
Sometimes my mirror makes me want to shout~~
Enough complaints! At least, my head’s not bare.
My bathroom trips are more than in the past.
Young people, I know you don’t understand!
Glad my home’s small, so I can get there fast.
On outings, restrooms are in high demand.
Last year the doc increased my BP med.
Decaf might help, but caffeine’s such a good
Elixer. It clears cobwebs from my head.
NO caffeine makes folks eat more than they should!

Year’s end approaches. Thoughts of coming days
Excite me. More than ever, love of friends
And family sustains me. God, I praise.
Redeemed, I’m Heaven-bound when life here ends.
So, I conclude there’s GOLD in life’s late phase.

How the little things can move us
And revive forgotten memories
Like the ones that stirred me recently
And brought joyful thoughts abundantly
Of time with my dad at Rockies games.
He would seldom purchase anything
Except peanuts in the shell.
From little bags the cracking tells
Of satisfaction and salty smells…
Of time with my dad at Rockies games.
It was a kind of ritual there
The call: “get your peanuts here!”
He would skip the sweets and beer
Simple peanuts drew him near
To time with my dad at Rockies games.
His hands and mouth were happy
While watching the game and shouting
Like so many other outings
Peanuts a’plenty went with the routing
Of time with my dad at Rockies games.
It is not the size of a thing that matters
It is the people we love that go with it.
A small, simple peanut I must admit
Is nothing without my family in it.
I miss times with my dad at Rockies games.

October is greeted with a welcome sigh
By those who love the cooler seasons,
But many of us dread her temperament
And, we all have our personal reasons.
I, for one, revel in the warmth of spring
Long for the greening of May and June,
Anticipating the activities of summertime
During these months I sing a brighter tune.
I must admit I enjoy the holiday festivities
From Halloween fun to Christmas cheer,
But blasts from the north are unappealing
Leading to January and a brand-new year.
I’ll do my very best not to grouse and carp
As the mild temps plunge into low zeroes,
And I’ll try to be cheerful, raising a glass
To 2022’s victories, records, and heroes.
But I’ll not be convinced winter is terrific
While I am here shivering and shaking,
[Probably I’m suffering from another flu] –
When I say I have S.A.D., I’m not faking,
Enjoy your outings to the ski resorts, too,
But remember me here turning all blue!

We'd so much in common, that was clear from the start,
A match made in heaven, like a chessboard and a dart.
Just that we seem to live two different lives...
The things I love, it seems, Leona Green never loves.
She said she loves Batman movies, and the new one's amazing!
I said it's cool, I also love it's casting!
Damn, I don't even know who the heck Batman is;
I think when I get home I should just Google this.
She said she likes partying, outings and stuff...
"Great! I love that too!" ... I think I can try and fake that life.
She said she hates Westlife, it just drives her mad.
"Yeah that band is awful!" I can always hide the poster under my bed.
She said she hates football and poetry that rhymes.
She loves guys who play Cricket, her favorite color is red...
I kept nodding and shouting "Me too!" all the time,
And then I thought I should just marry Sophie instead.
