MOTHER'S DAY poetry contest sponsored by Benjamin Bartley, April 2025
Morning starts early, before it gets light
Opening cupboards, to see what’s in store
Teachable moments, with wrong versus right
Hope grabs the car keys, then heads through the door
Early bird children, are making their way
Ready to take on, another school week
So many hurdles, to climb day-by-day
Destiny journeys, down these terraced streets
Another story, of work’s imbalance
Young hungry children, get so tall, so fast
Confidence takes it's fences and chances
Armed with new shoes but, how long will they last?
Roses or chocolates, say life can be hard
Demanding much more, than words on a card.

Flowers are ubiquitous and unique,
Large and small carry a certain mystique.
Offering sensual treats where it's bleak.
Wild or cultivated, when at their peak
Each blossom feels like a kiss on the cheek.
Roses and Lambs Breath have honed their technique,
Stand-ins for love, they make a bride's eyes leak.

Purple is a royal color
Unknown to many
Roses come in many colors
Pretty flowers in many sizes
Little roses are so very sweet
Eleven is not enough~twelve is always needed.
Red roses are for love and Valentine's Day
Orange is for the Fall
Several in a vase is very nice
Evergreens makes the roses come alive.

Fuchsia, scarlet, gold, and crimson colors, seemingly,
Appear overnight amidst the forest-green leaves.
Roses are giving way to chrysanthemums and
Evergreens; as Jack Frost starts sculpting icy
Windowpanes with feathery
Etchings of abstract art.
Lately, subtle changes are taking place;
Like short cloudy days and long cold nights.
Toward the end of Summer's dog days,
Orange mosaics begin blanketing the ground.
Summertime is swiftly slipping away, tucked,
Under the warm wing of a zephyr wind.
Many of the songbirds have already left;
Migrating southward to
Escape the howl of Winter winds, filled with
Rage, in the wake of Summer's death.

No one fairly knows what a "thing" is, not before "education"
Attributes ... Names begin "THING-ing" for us, the indoctrination
Moses means "pull out, draw" as Pharaoh's daughter did
Even Avram was changed to Abraham, Jacob to "Isra El" by God
Some naming is needed. But for God, human SHUTDOWN would be the rule!
NOTES:
1. Most of the species on the planet communicate very well, and minimally with words and sounds. After all some 75% of human 'dialog" is non-verbal.
2. The fact that "God" or somebody changes names in Scripture, to better represent the prophet or messenger, SIGNIFIES that "naming" can go "wrong."

Roses of my heart be still and allow me to inhale the
Odorous scent of your fashioned beauty and charm
Scintillating in red you bring me the vibrancy of your
Elective bud. I love your thorns as well for they
Say to the world, " Handle with care" , Oh! Rose,

A-ll you have to do is take;
Y-our life will be consoled by roses and birthday cake.
