Most Vocal Critic

My sister Pat says my words are too big,
that I lose my audience due to this.
By far, most people just don’t give a fig;
Anything over one’s head’s just a miss.

My vocabulary’s filled with nonsense,
And no one bothers to find the meaning.
No one wants their reading to be so dense
What I think’s clever is just demeaning.

Why can’t I just write simple stuff
about flowers and family and life?
Why isn’t that enough
without dredging up the dark, unhappy strife?

While I swim through depressing depths,
most people splash and play in shallows.
They laugh out loud, don’t hold their breath.
Real humor doesn’t come from gallows.

The Urban Nation

The urban nation will be filled with a lot of dedication and determination. This will be a
life-changer. When it comes to being inspired by the big city to write poems and short
stories, it's amazing. What's going to be great about the urban nation is when the group
is encouraging everybody to use their writings to share with the readers and the would-be
writers in the cities and towns. The cities will have been filled with inspiring poets and
would-be famous writers. Even if these people don't become a famous writer in the near
future, they'll still have everybody's support, and the support of the urban nation.
We've got writers from New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, Dallas, Houston, the works.
There's going to be a lot of words of expressions and aspirations from a lot of people who
are living in the city. And when we pass on, the new generation of the urban nation will
grow and grow until the end of time.

The Villanelle

Do not let people put limits on you,
Or tell you what you are capable of,
Since your destiny is within your view.

Do not listen to them! No matter who
Tells you that you will never rise above,
Do not let people put limits on you.

You can do it, whenever you choose to
Prove your talent, with a heart full of love,
Since your destiny is within your view.

Just do you, no matter what else you do!
Because your talent fits you like a glove,
Do not let people put limits on you.

Do not take the opinions of the few.
Fly above them, peacefully, like a dove,
Since your destiny is within your view.

Ignore the ones who do not have a clue,
Resisting their opinions with a shove.
Do not let people put limits on you,
Since your destiny is within your view.

Balance

"A lot of people have taken too much and what does not belong to them, in order to balance this equation a lot of people will have to give beyond the usual normal"

A Message To the Poets of Poetry Soup

Dear Poets,

First of all, I would like to say hello. My name is Dakarai Cobb, but you know me as The
Sonnet Man. Let me get right to the point. The reason why I am sending "a message to the
poets of poetry soup" is because I want to let you all know how much I respect your
opinions. Until I found this web site, I would have never dreamed of offering my poetry for a
group of people to critique on a daily basis. I have enjoyed the feedback, and have enjoyed
reading and critiquing all of your poetry as well. I would like to ask you all for a favor. I
created a contest between Sarah Hales and myself, because I enjoyed reading her sexy
poetry. I thought that we would have fun with this flirty challenge. However, we need people
to help us judge this competition. This is probably one of the few times that the soup
community will have an opportunity to judge a single contest collectively. So if you all are up
to the challenge, then have at it. Thanks. Your friend forever. The Sonnet Man.

In Writing,
Dakarai Cobb (also known as Doc the poet)

The Whooshing Sounds of Victory

The whooshing yelling screams rewarding moments of hard work

with taunting flashes and sounds of victory

as surging emotions pill up the pressure

one after the other

on top of one another

all the people sing songs of invigoration persistent in victory

that emerge in bursts of consolating packages

while tears of joyful happiness and hope emerge energized

at the glory in victory over all

the sacrifices of diligence made

we all share as beneficiaries

that in the end all efforts burnt were not at all in vain

nor wasted

but harbored in brevity,

concluded,

summed up

and are present in the

whooshing noises of victory

the people respectfully and wholeheartedly disperse singing to
blissful pieces……

Premium Member To the Italian Poetess, From the Highlander

This Saturday morning
As i logged on to the Soup
A blog i read
Left me cock-a-hoop

Our Italian poetess
Has decided to stay
So we can read and comment
For many a day

In her writing
She has her own style
Some make people worry
But make many people smile

This Highlander can say
With a smile on his face
That this Italian poetess
Is back home, in her place

Relief

Some people scream.
Some people yell.
I write poems;
It does just as well.

* Some Times

Sometimes I am not thankful for the
things I have and think I need more.

Sometimes I am not grateful enough
for the people and things I have,

Sometimes I take things for granted,
and think they are my right to have them.

Sometimes, I forget to say I love you to,
the ones in my life that mean so much.

Sometimes, I speak badly about people,
and forget that they have feelings too.

Sometimes, I get mad because someone,
cuts in front of me at the grocery store.

Sometimes, I pass by those who have their,
hands out and asking for money for food.

Sometimes, I forget the real reason why I,
was put on this earth and treat people badly.

Sometimes, I forget about God and that he,
is the reason I am here and never thank him.

Sometimes, I take friends for granted and always
expect them to be there for me but not for them.

Sometimes, I forget to smile and tell others to
have a good day and be helpful to them.

So I am going to try and change my sometimes,
to 'Doing' the things I sometimes forget to do.
