One "cent" is one-hundredth of a dollar.
It is often mistaken for its British counterpart, the penny.
They are worth so little these days.
Now, a suggestion has been presented:
The United States Mint should cease their production.
They say it costs two cents to make just one cent.
I also heard the five cent "nickel" is not far behind.
The price of a "nickel" is about fourteen cents.
Abraham Lincoln's profile is on each "cent".
Thomas Jefferson's is found on all "nickels".
We won't see them anymore when minting is stopped.
Besides, when merchandise is priced at ninety-nine cents,
and someone pays with a dollar bill,
how is the store going to give the customer change?
From a news story heard on CBS radio.

You feel so good, when you spend less
saving your nickels and dimes
But when you eat what you bought
you might want to confess ~
Spending a bit more ain't no crime

If I had a nickel for the times
Some politicians committed crimes
How my money would soar
Maybe twice as before
I could turn those nickels into dimes
Then I could buy a Senator's seat
Kick back, relax, and put up my feet
I'd promise everyone
But then get nothing done
And take a ride along easy street
So as a permanent resident
On laws needed I'd be hesitant
Though when my bill passes
It would fleece the masses
And one day they'd make me President

Boomers Prince or Pauper
David J Walker
Remembering when young
boomers knew
That a quarter really mattered
As juvenile consumers grew
The choices always flattered
Displayed in rows at
the corner store
The buying power pondered
A quarter could last
An hour or more
Before its value squander
Remember the times when
Quarters and dimes
Were at the root of children’s chatter
And now in tin pans and coffee cans
The pennies and nickels are scattered
Occasionally counted carefully
in stacks of silver and copper
remembering the value
that used to be the difference of a
prince or a pauper

He was a good little child with such a sense of adventure
Sure he could be a bit wild but that's what childhood's for
Yet on every single Sunday come rain, snow or even cold
This little boy went to church to pray in doing as he was told
And each week was the same as his parents said rise and shine
For they instilled this flame knowing by doing so all would be fine
Each week his Father said come hear putting two nickels into his hand
The purpose he would make perfectly clear then saying do you understand
One was to be given to the poor to try to help them in their difficult way
The other being his for the store that nickel being a lot back in the day
And so he flew out the front door and was quickly almost half way there
Had he known what was soon in store of that nickel he'd taken better care
One bouncing down the sewer then no more oh how life can be so unfair
Looking at the other nickel then the store he then looked up into the air
And with such a solemn childish way and in being in this particular pickle
He said, "Lord I would just like to say that I'm very sorry about Your nickel"

Doesn’t make any difference
Although some think it does
Some change, how and who change?
Do you have any change?
A nickel or a dime
Hot dogs get ‘em while you can
A nickel or a dime
Who’s to know but you
The difference between this and that
All our stuff that drives choices
Who cares what or who you are
Walking alone without your stuff
To comfort or confuse
A nickel or a dime to make the sunshine
How much for a still moment
A small piece of life
A starry night on a lonely beach
A heart full of songs
A kiss that says it all
For all your nickels and dimes
