BREAKING THROUGH THE HAZE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You are not the shadow
cast by your missteps,
nor the weight of regret
that clings like morning fog.
You are the sunrise
breaking through the haze,
a warm, positive light
of resiliency and grace.
LEAVE ME NOT IN THE LURCH
Life, as I’ve come to know it
Is trial wrapped in unexpected moments
A dance of hope, missteps, and loss
Like betting all blindly in business.
Each soul must face its reckoning
Some see the signs, prepare in time
Others, like smoke behind a jet
Only glimpse what’s left behind.
I was one of the second kind
By the time I looked, it was gone.
No warning, no sign, just the fall.
No guide in the sudden that follows.
Now I drift aimlessly in this vast sea
And no one sails this tide alone.
So if you hear me in the wilderness
Please don’t let go. Don’t let me drown.
Premium MemberMy Inner Voice Told Me
Johari window;
no one can see through this pane,
where I make my decisions.
my thoughts ala carte,
and not all desirable,
sussed out in my universe;
perplexing to me.
sift through so many pages -
childhood habits and missteps.
when faith came my way,
how divine the candlelight,
the Spirit lighting my path.
electrifying,
sword of positivity
discerning my every word.
don’t always listen
to the reproof; button up.
shame’s not a place to live. look
up to God’s grace; bow
down in that out of sight place;
forward march into glory.
sometimes there are storms:
depression, obsessive fraughts.
I pray through it; God’s faithful.
lingering in brain,
too long, could drive me cuckoo;
get in, get out, get moving.
inner voice, I must control.
Premium MemberCandlelight
Lighting the candle
To step forward with luster
To reduce the darkness
Passing over blindness
Like the night fireflies
Long scouting in the sky
A trip to the moonless land
A queue of blinking light bands
Dim candles glow,
Help prevent missteps,
Guide the way with pep,
To achieve the intended goal.
Helpful candlelight
Since the wick was lit
Flip-flops in the velvet wind
Yet it firmly illuminates within
Wise Steps
No rush.
Across the terrain goes the tortoise.
Intently moving toward its destination
Slow but assuredly, it moves without hesitation.
Moving barely, barely moving
But steadfast it remains.
There is no balking as it moves down the line.
Every step taken leaves a lasting imprint.
With each one, purpose shows
No missteps. No rush.
And so goes the tortoise.
No procrastination.
Only wise steps of purpose
Premium MemberA School Daze Turn
'Tis off to the races now that homeschooling has ended.
One half earns for their subsistency,
other half learns about delinquency.
Be they friends and their best efforts were suspended.
Tale spring muses as the anticipant's
appraised specifies traditional hopes
load stages standard addictive transplants
secured cognitive lodestar prolonged copes.
Missteps venture the wide-eyed sneeze, and runny nose
a caption reads, "This be the Time.", gone are
the reporting authors, counting those
to acknowledge them, minus their star.
Bloom's wilt and hues fade know not the hour caused,
advents trending acquisitions neglect closure
but fail to end the brotherhood of friends exposure.
halls went silent the schoolyard empty, turned men paused.
Premium MemberPray For America
Peace declaration between the Red and the Blue.
Raise our hands and our hearts to The Lord.
Act now, because 'later' will be too late.
Young and old alike must take responsibility.
Forget about who is Red or Blue, Liberal or Conservative.
Opportunity(us) knocks, and God will open the door.
Republicans nor Democrats, but only God can save us.
All the world is watching and waiting; Many are hoping.
Many miscues, missteps, and mistakes have been made.
Every prayer brings us that much closer to civility and God.
Reach out beyond yourselves and into the hearts of others.
'I' is a letter in 'AmerIca' representing you and me.
Cease from criticizing everyone disagreeing with you,
And let us pray that God will have mercy on us all.
Premium MemberA Mighty Maelstrom
lost in a
turbulent fog
tossed like
a tortured log
struggling to tame a tormented mind drowning in a deranged sea
yearning for wholeness stumbling over missteps seeking the answer
disintegrating in solitude walking on a tightrope
striving for sanity & serenity
as the world barrels into
a mighty
maelstrom
Museum of Me
Diaries left open and letters framed,
chronological ink waving from a horizon, gone.
Clothes hung to recreate a wedding, a dance, a touch –
enclosed in glass cases to trap the scent inside.
There’s a recording of his voice that skips
back through time. Her handprint in clay, cracked.
That first glass of wine, now cobwebbed, stained red,
next to teenage car keys rusted.
A prescription acts as evidence I tried.
Sawdust forms a path between pets
and my Walkman makes youth balk;
to them my VHS collection is alien.
Postcards curled from saltwater offer perfect snapshots
years before we scrolled for one.
A mortarboard on display alongside a bus pass, front door key and bank card.
A blade of Sefton Park grass pinned down like the wings of a butterfly.
Receipts of apologies. Candleholders waxed in missteps.
Maybe, one day, there’ll be a travelling exhibit where I finally get to meet you.
And the curator will add you, title card and all, to this museum of me.
Premium MemberWhy Does a Spider Have Eight Legs?
Two of them are for the steering wheel;
To drive unsafely is to be a heel.
One is to make penciled calculations;
To make missteps is to spoil relations.
Two more make amorous advances;
Based on calculations, he has good chances.
One makes careful notes, oh so detailed,
So, one day, his memoirs can be retailed.
Two are needed to solemnly pray
That a baby spider is not on its way.
Redemption
In youth's embrace, I danced through chance,
Unmindful of life's intricate dance.
Each missed opportunity, a fleeting glance,
Too young to grasp consequences, circumstance.
Redemption's path, a winding trail,
Unveiling truths, as time set sail.
Aunt Shirley's gaze, a reflective mirror,
Her wisdom echoing, becoming clearer.
Through missteps and misguided strife,
I glimpsed the cost of a misguided life.
A crime unjust, shadows still remain,
A haunting echo, a lingering pain.
Understanding dawns with the aging sun,
Lessons learned, redemption begun.
In society's eyes, scars may persist,
Yet within, a journey to coexist.
Aunt Shirley's grace, a guiding light,
I seek redemption in the silent night.
For every missed chance, a chance anew,
To weave a tale of redemption true.
Beyond the Veil of Emotion
Always lingering just beyond the realm of hurt
Emerging against whispers of the heart
Appearing against its hesitant pleas for caution
Showing up when the heart advices not to
Flourishing amidst uncharted moments
Thriving amidst an unexplored territory
Running away from problems unencountered
Unwanted eyes wide open
Witnessing the undesired scenes unfold
Crafting smiles amidst sorrows grasps
Severing ties that never truly existed
Enduring sleepless nights, questioning why
Does it trouble you to surpass the rest?
Elevate, unleash your untamed spirit, don your smile,
For it’s the essence of being human
Making occasional missteps in choices
An open invitation to amend and rectify,
And restore harmony once more
New Deal
Standing on the edge of forever
walking the tightest rope
Looking down into tomorrow’s abyss
devoid of any hope
The bottom rushing toward me
if one mistake is made
A footpath to a broken dream
too numb to be afraid
My past missteps surround me
daring me to jump
Reminding of what I can’t forget
this roiling morbid funk
But one last chance is taken
as I step outside myself
Shedding the fate of snake eyes past
—new cards the present dealt
Seem the reality
With nothing
Projecting..
