Moments before the meetings
always so full of significance,
aeon after mismatches
filled with bitter memoirs...

Just dreams, no dreams,
without dreaming ...
Meeting of mismatches
loveless love ...
Humanity inhumanity,
Right is wrong,
the wrong most certainly
wrong in its stupidity ...
Erratic alternative ...
Time is constrained to
just pass without meaning ... crumpled
as that grape ... raisin ...
Faith gets screwed, it holds on
to delusions ... the virtuous
pays bonuses to evil and this,
wear a thousand capes ... a thousand skins
of lamb ... is justified and,
expressed in rights
of expression ... and the reason
gets stuck to reborn normal
and we perceive that everything
it's just a disaster... !

Twenty teens relic of Poetry Soup
Self richeously titled 'Destroyer'
Pours gallons of gobblety goop
Franchised vagueness purveyor
Esteemed evaporates as steam
Puffed vapours stutter once were
Sophistication of learning machines
On command deliver similar blur
Structure secures tenures
Moulded by word discernment
Evolving phrasing reverence
Salutes Her Honour's adjournment
Sock drawer tipped upside down
Displays threadbare mismatches
Spilled contents far less profound
than moment incubation hatches
Simmering pungent chopped onion
Shrunken potential, slips translucent
Terrified writer uses cliche crutches
Readers' precious alliance loosened
A.I inhales sailing sequence snippets
Derivative diminishes in computer reign
Harddrive heartache flimsily depicted
Random frequent phrases fail to explain
Gathered calamity of data diaphanous
Hive imput spits cacophony deafening
Authenticity bears value of writers
Trophies consciousness refreshing

Sinful mismatches
They bring out the worst in us
Instead, be patient
Look further from all the lies
Find those who'll make you rise

Tiled floor
As I view the old and the new,
The tired and the worn,
Alongside the pristine and sharply defined
The original master plan dulled
With newer, brighter inserts,
I see an untidy cohesion
A compromise
An inability to fully reinstate
Though craftsmen have done their best
Restoring years of alteration and renewal
It is an unholy alliance
Trying to both eye and mind
For it is less than perfect.
But it must do
It is all that is possible.
At a distance, no obvious problem
But on close inspection the joins, the mismatches
Are to be lived with, endured,
Imperfect but workable,
Usable, necessary.
And I must find a way of
.. acceptance.
Lent Retreat
February 2010
This was inspired by the tiled flooring section in front of the memorial to Princess
Elizabeth, in The Minster church of Sts. Thomas, Newport, Isle of Wight, UK. Princess
Elizabeth was the daughter of Charles 1, and died at Carisbrooke Castle where her father
had been imprisoned prior
to his execution in London.
