I shall not ever swim in seas that swarm with awful fears
I’d never feel at ease in case a great white shark appears
But now there’s a laboratory that can cure my woes
They bring back long dead creatures and, I’m told, everything goes
I don’t care what it costs to bring back the megalodon
This massive shark ate everything and great whites would be gone
So bring back the megalodon to eat all those great whites
Then I can skinny dip again, quite safe, on moonlit nights
It took some time but it’s been done; the Meg now rules the waves
He’s eaten all the creature that sent swimmers to their graves
So now I swim with confidence; the Meg’s been back awhile
And look, I see one coming… don’t you love that gaping smile

If only I could be Meg Olsen,
With the courage to take on the world,
I'd break free from this timid shell,
And let my wings unfurl.
If only I could be Meg Olsen,
With a heart that's fierce and strong,
I'd chase after my dreams relentlessly,
And prove all the doubters wrong.
If only I could be Meg Olsen,
With a mind that's sharp and bright,
I'd speak up and share my thoughts,
And never let anyone dim my light.
But alas, I am just myself,
With my own set of strengths and flaws,
Yet I'll keep striving to be my best,
And break down the barriers and walls.
For though I may not be Meg Olsen,
Or any of the others on the list,
I know that being myself is enough,
And that's something I shouldn't miss.
So here's to embracing who we are,
And not longing to be someone else,
For each of us has a unique gift,
That can't be replicated or shelved.

The sun got tangled
in the branches of an old Hawthorne.
Daybreak hung down
in grey strips, like a torn parachute
among the knuckled finger-bones
of the grasping tree.
Meg, the younger sister of Bill,
wanted to shin-up and dislodge it.
we thought there was a good chance
we boys would catch a glimpse
of her knickers, so we agreed
to give her a leg-up.
Her skinny limbs, skirt hiked up,
snaking through the spiky twigs
until she was about half-way
to the sun.
Black branches shook
and thorns rattled,
then they loosened their grip
and the sun rose.
Meg whooped and almost fell.
We others grinned sheepishly;
Bill looked at us
as if we were all crazy.

Louise has the most exotic doll clothes in the toy chest.
We know she is Meg’s favorite because of her outfits.
Some of us are angry with Louise because of this favoritism.
Some of the prettier dolls are uglier now, and they throw a fit.
Last night Meg created a gorgeous gold bird nest hat for Louise.
We saw it, and many of us were not pleased in the least or at all.
She is more gorgeous than ever, and this is not fair, if you please.
Worse, it made her look svelte, and about six inches more tall.

Daybreak dangled in foggy strips.
Mizzle had mugged the day,
grey-flecked cuckoo spit
smuggled summer under hoary roots.
Bill formed an Indian gang
to snatch the light back.
Later, parting the scalp of a hedge
we saw the sun
tangled in an old hawthorn.
Meg, (Bill’s sister),
wanted to shin-up and dislodge it.
There was a chance
we would see her knickers
so we gave her a leg-up.
Her skinny limbs
snaked through the spiky twigs.
Half-way to the top
the sun cut loose, drifting
beyond her reach.
Meg whooped and almost fell.
We boys grinned as her bare legs
slide down onto our shoulders.
Bill looked at us
as if we were all crazy.

there was a day Meg went away
she was hospitalized with Bipolar
their she gazed through the window
alone in her thoughts she was disturbed
would cling to her only hope in God's word
forget about what you have heard
days went by and to her surprise
Meg was paid a visit by Ben her friend
they took walks in the park
sought aloace from the arts
Meg always wrote in her journal
she loved to be loved like ever before
she cried in the morning and at the night
but Meg never gave up on the fight
Ben had a surprise question for Meg.
he got down on one knee and asked Meg to marry him
Meg had made her decision
Meg & Ben tied the knot
They lived happily ever after
Amen

She had so many chances
Yet she kept muffin it up
Butter intentions were good
Just not much coffee in her cup
Couldn’t make a good decision
Too much waffling back and forth
Always peppered with doubt
Should she head south, no maybe north
Still, she was fun at a party
I would say, hummus a tune
She’d say, "Icing because I’m happy"
As the words began to croon
Maybe that’s what’s most important
Omelet let her off the hook
So she’s always in a pickle
Doesn’t do things by the book
Once again, I’m gonna help her
Since she is such a good egg
I said, girl, you’d go much farther
If you weren’t such a nut Meg

maybe you should call me Meg
no, it’s no bother
I’ve always wanted a nickname
there’s already another Megan
so I’ll be a Meg

Queenie Meg went to Winnipeg
And she dropped off on a powder keg
But there near The Forks
Stood the megadorks
They said," She did it is for a gag".

Meg Endures the Daily Grind
By Elton Camp
To sleep in, Meg needn’t try
Others’ needs she can’t deny
There’s no break from that way
An early start comes to her day
A shrill cry from baby’s room arises
To awaken her kids of various sizes
His diaper is stinky, vile and rank
A bottle of milk he slowly drank
Through the house the others ran
Breakfast insistently to demand
Day continues as no delight
Cry, fuss, scream and fight
Meals to make, cleaning to do
To live that way, Meg does rue
The bedtime hassle soon at hand
It’s almost more than she can stand
Her parenting skills put to the test
Exhausted but little time to rest

Meg Can’t Find the Scratch
By Elton Camp
Meg had been married a short while
She was finding cooking quite a trial
Her husband, Jason, constantly howled,
“My Mom’s a better cook,” he growled
Her mother-in-law treated her with disdain
“I don’t know how long Sonny will remain.”
Both of them, her cooking did assail
But didn’t go into sufficient detail
Meg desperately went shopping one day
Finally, to a clerk, she proceeded to say:
“My inlaw’s cooking I can’t seem to match.
Because she made everything from scratch.”
“Please show me where it can be found
For I have searched this store all around.”

Happy belated birthday Meg
This is your time to shake a leg
Hope you celebrated your way
Go ahead and have a great day
May your territory increase
And in you God’s blessings release
Holy Spirit hands on you lay
Go ahead and have a great day
From you evil spirits depart
They will not cause grief to your heart
This is your time for fun and play
Go ahead and have a great day!
Happy belated birthday Meg
Go ahead and have a great day

Comments: For my poet friend Margaret Okubo on her birthday. The Kyrielle
Sonnet has 14 lines (three rhyming quatrain stanzas and a non-rhyming
couplet). It has a repeating line or phrase as a refrain in the last line of each
stanza. Each line within the sonnet has eight syllables. The French use the first
and last line of the first quatrain as the ending couplet. This reinforces the refrain
within the poem. The rhyming scheme for a Kyrielle Sonnet normally is: AabB,
ccbB, ddbB, AB -or- AbaB, cbcB, dbdB, AB.
