The Meat Locker
The largest ice freezer of free-range Texan
long-horns where mice wore fur to survive
broke down, the carcasses began rotting
thrown into the bay.
The day after, sharks came to the surface
throwing up, turning the water foamy
For anglers, it was a bonus they caught
big marlins and red snappers

No prettier flowers match the ones
Lynn nurtures with immense care;
all her fantasies seem to adhere...
as if they were evocative lyrics!
Crape myrtle trees are blooming early,
they beautify the lively garden below;
blossoms make a soft and cozy pillow
to lay down gently and dream sweetly!
No windfall scatters them around with blows,
their stems can withstand upcoming storms;
their petals dazzle and make tearful Flora smile...
whenever she's anxiously waits to be a bride!
All the vivid colors of this suburban garden
invite everybody to stare at them gleefully,
Giancarlo offers a bouquet to a lonely lady;
her thankfulness pleases the kind gentleman!
If only spring could last all yearlong, southbound
Marlins, Canaries and Puffs would come around often;
their astonishing, cheery melodies will surely astound:
stop by and admire the loveliness of Lynn's garden!

I worry about the long silence,
why life does not reawaken
and instill in us the awaited hope?
Can distraught hearts beat again...
forgetting all the pain for an hour?
The sunless and dim morning
has stopped all the cheerful
warblings of the song sparrows
and of the marlins hiding,
fearing to become the next preys
of the hungry ravens that croak!
More sad hours will follow,
will harmony be restored to the dry
meadows awaiting rain?
That Chirpine planted by an Indian
farmer twenty years ago has fully grown;
it is rarely seen in a land
of oaks, of aspens, and of firs
that attracted the snowy owls,
the killdeers, the grouses, and the larks!
If there weren't any forests, where
would these beautiful birds go?
Where would we hear their songs
when nothing else thrills us...
imagine a forest without them!
I'm walking down narrow paths
that haven't seen a single raindrop fall,
and they only ones that complain
are the park rangers that ride
their horses down those dusty paths!

God as parent
God is worried about his son Jesus
Since he was crucified he is not his jolly self
There were no Psychiatrists back then
The profession was not yet invented now New York is full of them
Jesus sits on a swing a harp player nearby
Tries to soothe his nerves
Sometimes god gets annoyed feeling as taking his son by the scruff
Of his neck and shake sense in him
The scars on his foot and heels have healed and his beard is black
God sighs, looks through a book by Hemingway he is so easy to read.
It takes time to forget and of that he has got oceans
He dreams of being with Earnest fishing for Marlins

Ole Les set out by kayak from the shore
Big blue marlin rose from the ocean floor
Nipped his bait, gave Les a tow
Water-logged craft sank below
Friends shook their heads and said, "No Les, no more"

Written for John Freeman's "Fishing" limerick contest
Okay, the man's name wasn't Les ,but this video shows two kayaks being towed 11
miles by marlins. I took a little poetic license with the ending too. Both men
survived. If you fish you will be amazed by this video:

He is a pitcher any Phillies fan would know.
He is Roy Halladay, who came in a trade with Toronto.
Yes he started his baseball career as a Blue Jay.
Why did the Toronto front office trade him away?
He made some history on the twenty-ninth of May.
Roy took a huge step toward the Hall of Fame.
Against the Florida Marlins, he pitched a perfect game.
Throughout this game during last summer’s pennant chase,
not one Florida Marlins batter reached first base.
Roy accomplished something many would consider hard.
There were twenty-seven batters retired on the score card.
There was an even greater accomplishment he scored.
Roy was the recipient of the Cy Young Award.
A man presently at the top of his game,
we will see his bronze plaque at the Hall of Fame.
