May we be blessed as Margaret Mead observed…
especially today with our education system teetering on the brink…
to understand children must be taught how…not what to think…
And as history is being rewritten and books are being banned…
where woke, diversity, equity and inclusion are wrongfully taboo…
when it comes to teaching our children how or what to think…
may we be blessed to know
the difference between the two.
Quote: “It is utterly false and cruelly arbitrary to put all the play and learning into childhood, all the work into middle age, and all the regrets into old age”. -- Margaret Mead
On a spring morn bathed in golden light,
I'm enchanted by the mist, a breathtaking sight,
Like stairways to heaven, from the lake they rise,
Utterly spellbound, I wander beneath azure skies.
Yet wars rage on in lands afar,
Where freedom falters 'neath a tyrant's star,
Innocents fall, hostages to greed's cruel deal,
Utterly disheartened by the leaders' heart of steel.
But amidst the chaos, wildflowers bloom,
On the ridge they dance, dispelling gloom,
Sparrows and swallows in a joyous spree,
Utterly beautiful, a sight so lovely, it sets the spirit free.
On a warm afternoon, thoughts drift anew,
Watch deer and chase turkeys, in sun's warm hue,
And in quiet repose, my aging frame does rest,
Utterly, I must write a poem, before I forget.
***Margaret Mead***
the world is ALWAYS
pushing me to REMEMBER
THAT each creature, flower, plant
pale in the shadow
of YOU, for you ARE the one
ABSOLUTELY pure
and purely UNIQUE
JUST as are each creature, plant,
flower are more LIKE than not
EVERYONE is just
a reflection of beauty
and utterly nothing ELSE

"We won't have a society if we destroy the environment."
- Margaret Mead
It's time to face the facts, Jack, Jill;
give the marsh back to the ocean,
move uphill. Give the river back
its mouth, the shore to the sea.
It's way past time to clean the obscene –
ness from the blue-green waters
we rape to feed us. Dead zones exist
in the deep, yet we weep
when nature disturbs our ego.
We just don't get it. The need to breathe
begins in the sea. It's life, renewed,
in grasses that cleanse our ignorance,
in spite of our arrogance,
We are choking her to death
with stupidity and greed.
