        When Only Cash Would Do
	Written: by Tom Wright
	1/00

	He decried to me, I'm hungry,
	and have no funds for bread nor meat.
	The fuel tank in my shack called home
	has no propane to give it heat.

	Again, he said I'm ailing,
	with no one to pay me heed.
	I know you have my needed cash,
	will you do me just this one deed?

	I thought a box of canned supplies,
	and fuel tank filled would fit the bill.
	At day I'd call the local druggist,
	with instructions for his needs to fill.

	But from his heart his anger shown,
	though I thought my gesture was fine.
	He then confessed that his need was cash,
	for cigarettes and wine.

	I said, such as I have I'll gladly give,
	but cannot subsidize your needs of sin.
	He failed to comprehend my reason,
	when told that I'd been born again.

Premium Member I Am Eve

I
I AM
                                                       I
Come
I come, I came;
I AM
I AM
From the one rib,

From
ADAM

I, I AM, I AM
Not part but whole;
I AM WOMAN,
Yes, I've come from MAN;
and yes I AM;

His chosen spouse;
From God;
Though I find it quite. . .
Odd,
That the heavenly Father
Would even bother. . .
To make ME WOMAN

I, I AM taken from mere MAN;
I come, I came in Jesus Name I am
Woman

My name's EVE;
One of God's children;
Whose descendants,
yes one of them is..
I AM ONE of them,

EVE ROPER

My name is Eve;
One of God's children
Whose descendants
yes I am one of them
taken from ADAM'S rib
Not a half-man but a whole WOMAN;
Put upon this world to help, love and nurture;
And when you see me again;
I'll be in heaven;
with the first ADAM and EVE
AMEN

A Tale of Two Families

Once upon a time there were two families,
In which the husbands were confronted with choices,
The consequences of which could be condemning their wives
To a lifetime of pill popping and labelling,
Although neither were told that in such stark terms.

Both wives freaked out with one of their babies,
Both husbands were asked if they wanted their wives to be hospitalised,
One said yes and one said no.

One wife is now a permanently depressed and not fit for much,
At home mostly by herself,
Relying on copious supplies of pills,
And visits from the other wife who is from the same ethnic group.
And she never stops ringing the wife not on pills all hours of the day.
Her husband has never come out of denial and ovoids his responsibility,
Their daughter now in her twenties had barely coped throughout,
And may or may not escape her Mothers fate.

For a start the Mother not on pills was paid by Barnardoes,
To help and support the child and Mother,
But that was only temporary,
And pretty soon the family was unsupported and the pill popping increased.

Now the other Husband made a different decision,
The family had three children,
All got a high education and have jobs or about to.

Admittedly the husbands were of a different nature,
The one who said no was an early childcare teacher,
Who could take up the slack,
Including taking two of the children to work with him for a year,
During the rough times.

I don't regret my decision,
Even though our marriage is far from perfect,
Especially as we see the consequences of a a different decision most weeks.

My wife is now studying
And has friends and not alone to overthink and reach for her pills.
But I do find it hard not to be angry with the other husband and his decision.
We used to be friends but now he is too proud to even talk to me,
You just can't help some people.

But never mind we can can spend $50 million on a children's playground,
Hundreds more on sports stadiums that most will never enter.
And next to nothing on reducing pill popping as a solution to all our problems.

Leaving the Farm
David J Walker
I
“At the end of the day” they keep saying
At the end of the day
A prepositional phrase followed by
unsupported speculation
When everything is considered,
At the End of the Day, is
A simple idiot with an idiom and nothing to say
My father said sitting  quietly
	At the end of the day, smoking
Speculating about our future
II
What time does the clock strike late afternoon?
Is it just before early evening?
Is it marked by sundial sunsets sometime
Before dark?
We knew, my father and me, as we left the fields
Headed home in the summer’s heat
Watching the sun dip into the west just beyond
The hood ornament of the pick-up truck
Even with the windows rolled down
The wind and the whine of the road
Could not drown out the sound
Of our growling bellies
There would be beans and cornbread waiting
Maybe Spam,
	But not meat

III
Clever, the ways to irrigate
And turn a desert into a farm
Hard, was the work to care for the
Rows of cotton and maze
that would be harvested
for our money, maybe
Some years it worked
	But for many, it did not
There was no way for anyone to say
Which it would be
There were tractors bought on credit
And the banks still had to be repaid
IV
The men in the middle
Were always invisible though we
Knew they wore expensive suits
While we wore jeans and boots
Before school began each year
Mom would buy me two new pair
Of Levi’s from the department store
 on the square
They would last the whole year if
Her predictions of my growth
Was close.
V
I can never forget
	The day we left Lea County
Cold and gray
on February 10th, 1966
In a grain truck bound for Lubbock
Dad bought a horse he thought he
Could turn to earn enough money
For gas and rent
Starting over was possible
Staying was not

Start to see clear the path of choice,
Prize that wise truth that makes sight whole;
Invoke fond cheer to style sure poise,
Reach for kind proof in inner soul;
Indulge calm mind that glimpses hope,
Touch that deep thrill that ever floods;
Urge joy most kind to craft wise scope,
Align firm will in surge of blood;
Love brings grand chimes as blessings stream.
Meet each face well with lovely ease,
Yield happy times in spirit dream;
Secret faith tells in mind at peace,
Taste profound quest in lavish reach,
Intuit your best as real acts preach,
Claim mystic zest where love can teach.

An Elegy On a Great Lady

Start

Enclosed in a glass casket
Cuddled in a flower-decked basket
She lay serene as ever
No sign of her past fervor

Resting in her last abode
Before the journey by road
To her final burial site
For performing the last rite

Dignitaries came to pay their last respect
Placed a wreath, sad and circumspect
Consoled the members who were dear
To reduce their sorrow and repress a tear

She ruled the state for over a decade
Hailed as the Iron lady, never swayed
Adored by the masses, especially poor
She was the mother to all and a doer

Millions of mourners thronged the street
Wishing she was alive for them to meet
Sea of humanity surged in a melancholy state
Thumping their chests and lamenting their fate

Alas! She can’t hear their mourning cries
It’s a feeling no one can ever reprise
Slowly the coffin was lowered into the grave
The sea responded with a mighty wave.

Illuminated by the harvest moon
smoke is caught creeping
across the water...
Hattori Ransetsu, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Fanning its tail flamboyantly
with every excuse of a breeze,
the peacock!

Waves row through the mists
of the endless sea.

I hurl a firefly into the darkness
and sense the enormity of night.

reflections of the rain ripple

Unaware it protects
the hilltop paddies,
the scarecrow seems useless to itself.

Ebb-tide:
everything we stoop to collect
slips through our fingers ...

the closet’s last floral skirt...

Scandalous tides,
removing bikinis!

Haughty moon,

Ascendance Transcendence
by Michael R. Burch

Breaching the summit
I reach
the horizon’s last rays.

Moore or Less
by Michael R. Burch

for Richard Moore

Less is more —
in a dress, I suppose,
and in intimate clothes
like crotchless hose.

But now Moore is less
due to death’s subtraction
and I must confess:
I hate such redaction!

no foothold
by michael r. burch

there is no hope;
therefore i became invulnerable to love.
now even god cannot move me:
nothing to push or shove,
no foothold.

so let me live out my remaining days in clarity,
mine being the only nativity,
my death the final crucifixion
and apocalypse,

as far as the i can see ...

The Red State Reaction
by Michael R. Burch

Where the hell are they hidin’
Sleepy Joe Biden?

And how the hell can the bleep
Do so much, in his SLEEP?

Red State Reject
by Michael R. Burch

I once was a pessimist
but now I’m more optimistic
ever since I discovered my fears
were unsupported by any statistic.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two fathers, and two sons:
Glimpses of play and fun,
Journeys in the warm sun,
Emergent light now puns.
Joy wears a sanguine face:
Purpose and passion pace,
Words and works in clear trace,
Feelings thrill time and space.
So many moments string:
Fond sparkle now casts flings,
Zesty sway of warm swing,
A hundred happy things.
So many ways to feel:
The pulse of life that spills,
The rise and fall of thrills,
Endless poise of goodwill.
Two sons and two fathers:
Love is all that matters,
Peace of mind now gathers,
Heart and soul to shelter.
Life pursuits call most plain:
Treasure ties beyond gain,
Timeless feel in refrain,
Curious wonder attains.
So many ways to be:
Vibrant vivid sights see,
Heed love's clear melody,
Live joy's grand harmony.
Not the Girl For Me
She’s a red-head, fiery as cliché,
as passionate about work as play,
she’s not afraid to be feminine,
and show softness that lies within.
Her eyes are a lightish, pastel green,
she can play the ****, or play the queen,
studied she is at magic tricks,
and always craves Eggs Benedict.
Always smiles when you want more,
appreciates fine hardwood floors,
still gets excited when things are free,
and yet, this girl is not for me.
That sounds crazy, quite absurd…
for a looker like her, to date this nerd,
I should be counting this blessing,
not feeling like something is missing.
But now a whole year’s time is gone
and still I’m feeling like it’s wrong,
I should declare that she’s ‘the one,’
my precious gem, my diamond,
yhe one whole haunts a waking dream,
who understands me, way down deep,
but I know that it can never be,
sadly, this girl is not for me.
It makes no sense to my mind,
how could I throw back such a find?
Reject a girl who smiles and laughs
at my jokes, even when they’re bad.
Love really  UNSUPPORTED CODE is UNSUPPORTED CODE  the cruelest thing,
to feel little when the soul  UNSUPPORTED CODE should UNSUPPORTED CODE  sing,
putting me here in this tight spot
since I know she feels what I do not.
But dragging out a lie won’t work,
she’ll rage, she’ll cry, call me a jerk,
one day she’ll find someone and be happy,
but sadly, that man can’t be me.
