Coach Dad--Collaboration With Tim Smith

Coach Dad

It is a magic time when a child ventures
Into the world, spreading wings,
Beginning the oft painful process
of moving from the nest to the sky.

And it is a fragile time, where first experiences
Weigh heavily on shaping the direction
In which young life begins to move
And often whether it moves at all

It is a trying time, of fear and nervousness
One little step out on their own
The start of something bold and beautiful
The molding of a young child's eye

Much is made of parents and peers,
Oft unaddressed is the role of others
Teachers and coaches, a collective entity
Not dissimilar from fathers and mothers

The torch of responsibility being passed
If only for a brief moment
No more clinging to the safety and comfort
of what is already a norm and known

Encouragement or unkind words
So often a matter of chance and moods
Have mighty impacts on growing hearts
Precious opportunities to help a growing life

Young minds and hearts right on the surface
We remember our coaches, good and bad
Caring or not, patience or none,
The struggles, thin times and thick

A team of seven year olds
Is not unlike a litter of unruly puppies
How will they ever pay attention?
Give them a ball, a glove, and a game!

Pride, courage, athleticism, self-confidence
All showcased for the world to see
Taking turns and building bonds
Grasping much more than a newfound skill

If you can stand to be measured,
and fail by that measure, even repeatedly
But come back from it, you'll forever have
One more vital skill in life’s toolbox

One youngster will not win the game alone
But the team can, and its joy
Is multiplied many times over.
All these things and more can be taught.

Whether it be on the field or off
Teamwork, respect and camaraderie
Will forever be entrenched in the mind
Of a well instructed boy or girl

Premium Member Picture of Oneself

A Picture Of Oneself contains not too much to tell,
Except the package showing that in which they dwell.
This is the only purpose a picture has and does,
Telling nothing about the person who is or was.

A Picture Of Oneself shows nothing that's inside.
Who is the real character that within does reside?
Are they a soul with compassion, full of empathy
Or are they all about themselves with only apathy?

How much do they care? How much do they Love?
Are they ego driven with pride derived of?
What character traits does the picture of possess,
One of integrity, virtue, along with humbleness?

Do they seek and tell the truth or do they lie?
Do they have a code of ethics they only live by?
What do they aspire for in life and/or hope to gain?
Do they care how or if it's by causing others pain?

What are they feeling, happy with joy in their heart
Or are they battling pain in their deepest, inner part?
What have they been through; what have they endured?
Have they overcome with an outlook, healthy and secured?

All the aspects of a person are left unaddressed
In a Picture Of Oneself, the real is oppressed.
The packaging is glorified, says nothing of its host;
Though appearance is deceptive, it tends to matter most.

Technology would surpass itself and be truly smart,
If there was a camera that could capture one's heart.
All the devious hearts wouldn't have invisibility
And all the hearts of beauty would shine then brilliantly.

A Picture Of Oneself may preserve one's appearance;
May be used to con others and to run interference.
But a Picture Of Oneself, nothing does it tell.
It's just a package picture, a picture of one's shell.

No Way Out

No Way Out
By Rick Rucker

As recently as a year ago,
I knew not, which way to go,

From financial ruin, to likely cancer,
I could not seem to forge an answer,

I went to work, all depressed,
My problems, largely unaddressed,

My problems seemed to overwhelm,
I could not seem to grasp the helm,

Then, out of the Blue,
I decided what I would do,

That rather than “going out,” sad, and lonely,
I no longer wanted to be “the only,”

Rather than being alone, at the end,
I would rather share the time left, with a friend,

I thought that my search would be a Quest,
But, I found it one of the best,

Times in my Life,
A Mission, with potential, rife,

From that time on,
The funk, that I had been in, had gone!

Like snagging Victory, from Defeat,
I got a bonus, an Angel, sweet,

While it may seem to be remote,
Those Dragons from my Mind, she smote,

The end of my Life, once forecast,
Was incorrect, it would last,

Far longer than my doctor thought it would,
I decided it was due to my Angel, good,

I knew that I could not let her slip away,
I did not want to go alone, into the Fray,

As she had already changed my Fate,
I beseeched her to become my Mate,

She finally acquiesced,
Rather than see me grovel, she thought it best,

In the course of our Romance,
I found that she is a genius at finance,

I thought that money would be a concern of my heirs,
With a longer lifespan, it again was one of my cares,

I am but a silly Man,
So, she put me on a savings plan,

One that will do what is all the Rage,
To have money, ‘til The End, at any age!

So, if you want my prescription for a Life, so fine,
Find an Angel, but you cannot have mine!

Her time is already spoken for,
For the next hundred years, or more!

Freestyles Filed 01

Note: These "Freestyles Filed" are pieces quickly written, with a time limit for each line and no editing. Similar to freestyle raps but instead straight onto paper.

                                    ** FREESTYLES FILED ** 01 **

Multiple personalities flourish positively onto my paper,
Like vapor I sometimes try to escape and disappear,
But the glare from the light is near while my mind appears,
Steered by forces deployed to mend through what’s written by this pen,
Now my imagination is open to intuition,
Diminishing old ways that I don’t want to stay,
Hopefully I hope, because the only way is hard to play in this world wide monopoly,
Leaving properly is only done consciously while hearing divine rhymes that kiss the heart with awareness,
Knowing super bliss will never be achieved in this lifetime because of no collective oneness,
Put to rest beliefs like this, they miss the target so minds starve of what’s needed,
So read this over and over, understand most minds are frozen,
Unaware on cruise control with no actual higher movement,
Bent over with heads in the sand speaking unintelligent rants, small like ants,
Instead grow like a plant, exhale a breath and confess our perceptions have been dressed by the unaddressed,
Best known by their actions causing mess,
Everywhere in this game of chess blessed by upheaval of the devil,
Minds driven by devilish drives of desire that are opposite to higher learning,
Overturning false truths seeing actuality in a reality that acts like a virus,
I see this, live within this, understand this!

Awakening the Dream
             by Odin Roark

Even in a dream
A poet’s page
Starts blank

Restlessly
The inscrutable pen hovers
Awareness preparing absorption
Like a dry valley of nature
Awaiting tributaries to ripple convergence
A lake to be
Remaining patient

Unaddressed questions resurface
Even as pebbles hamper flow once again
Rocks demand navigation
And boulders bent on containment
Concede the rush into reservoirs

Expression’s pause
Ellipsis of control
Fails holding back the surge of ink to paper
As grammar’s first trickle bodes further volume

Restless verbs urge images forward
A tide of willingness waits
Wanting complete its existence

Around mind’s shoreline
Animation commences cautiously
Needing to quench
Parched wanderings
Staying ever mindful
Poisoning is often invisible

Unexpectedly

This once empty page
Experiences a downpour
Cooling passion’s vacillating temperatures
Into pastels of emotion
Urging hard layered resistance
Into malleable thought

Pauses and stops
Commas and periods
Paragraphs of reason and compassion
Flow freely
Like spillways of a dam

For some
The purge of resolve
Often disappoints

How delicate such a dream
Excruciating at times
Often revealing once invisible sentences
To correct lingering mistakes

Awakening retains echoes
The waning past remaining familiar
Like battlefields of regret
Unpunctuated sentences
Forever fragments of one’s war

Such a dream’s ending
Always makes known
The expectant pen
Forever willing to just be held
Demanding nothing
Merely to remain
A trusted friend
Knowing at times…
It is the only friend

Incivility

The heavy curtain, refusing to be moved,
is slowly forced aside by those who understand
hidden scenes and private dialog
few audiences have experienced.

Inch by inch the rusty gromets
slide on the rough surface,
where oil has never been,
causing discomfort to tender ears.

She paid no money to sit in her chair
and watch the curtain reveal
what she already knew--
a kinship understood.

The scene was simple--
two daughters standing behind a woman
with a purse hanging from one arm,
while holding two confederate flags

and a sign of hate held over her head,
“ don't you wish you WERE WHITE,”
made her stomach-ache and teeth clench,
as anger of resistance freed itself from flimsy chains.

While the audience responds
with tears of empathy,
she refuses to acknowledge,
will not commiserate,

And immediately posts her feelings on social media,
“Hate comes in All colors,”
revealing a heart incapable of sympathy,
unwilling to give respect or show politeness.

I notice and cannot be silent
with civility dishonored
and pain unaddressed,
by callous and cold remarks

That create new wounds and larger scars.
With new vigor I write to avenge a wrong,
push back to help change gain a foothold
On the slippery slope of bias.

Forgiveness Part One

with amped up current
ohm me dog mental illness priceline paid
for fueling, fostering,
   ferociously festering buzzfeeding
   anxiety panic, obsessive predipositions,
et cetera a cereal Swiss side dull killer
   via general mills made

tinder keg of volatile explosive sprites,
   cuz communication asper feelings
   now roiling inside, twas laid
the foundation to harbor resentment, sorrow, anger...

on account of being a frayed
dee cat (especially when bullied
   by mean looking toughs)
   name calling aye did evade
unwittingly letting percolate,
   a witchs brew top grade
cauldron delight comprising.

"Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg, and howlet's wing,--
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble."

so why ask thyself to forget and forgive
those (especially family of origin) to live
a life free of unaddressed issues that did give
nothing besides misery
   (particularly 4 after midnight)

oft times verbally
lashing out like a man possessed
   frequently delivering
upon head of spouse gremlins that invest
corp por real complex edifice –
   this truth hide hoo attest.

Grizly Adams

A vivid memory of childhood, overall one of the best
Running to the TV, brimming with excitement and anticipation
Waiting to find out, what will be today’s quest
I lived for the man who taught us integrity, honor, and trust
You could easily say I was beyond being obsessed
I would be glued to the TV whether it was a rerun or new
Just to meet him once, as a child my only request
Many years passing, now a mother myself
My childhood dream came and went unaddressed
Now volunteering to help raise money for juvenile diabetes
Unaware who is invited to the event as DOCS special guest
All working diligently for the great cause at hand
The big day is nearing, who’s invited now expressed
Nervous and excited, I can’t believe what I am hearing
My childhood dream coming true, I must be blessed
Everything I had hoped for he exceeded with ease
To meet him in real life, you could only be impressed
So many years later, still touching so many lives
Something very special, Dan Haggerty has always possessed
I am honored to know him and have him in my life
To have a friend in Grizzly Adams, never would I have guessed

We have grown to love has shifted face
brothers and sisters lost in all that is valued
under human reality chains shape shifting

Firstly murder has become a tipping point on our scales
meaningless news edited by wheasels to alter opinions set
incorrectly twisted falsehoods aired liars speak

Where truth and family based structures are attacked
good is considered a bad state of belief to be in
as it does not stand in favour within stones thrown sin

Human error has crept up upon us bringing destruction
every where it goes it terrorises living souls
unaddressed mass murders they are living lavish lifestyles

Do we learn anything from past mistakes made
Looking through the portal of mirrors
our flesh will perish immortal spirit rises

A field of entanglement forces against justice work around
the clock clouded visions ticking every minute closer
one time bomb ready to explode

Now the gates are opening to Hades
ignorance now is used as some sort of intelligence tool
Where boundaries have been removed for ugly reasons

Those L O N G Register Receipts

I move up as next on the line.
She checks out my rations just fine.
   Some milk, eggs, and bread
      are pushed up ahead
when packer, to bag, does assign.

But then, my receipt, oh my lord,
keeps coming and coming, I'm floored!
   For sure, half-yard long...
      I'm thinking what's wrong?
Three items grants me this reward?

A chance to win thousands someday
if I take an hour-long survey.
   Some coupons to use
      that somehow, I'll lose;
a waste of good paper, I say!

A web address I can go to,
to comment if checker came thru,
   with service that's good...
      did all that she should;
for that, print more coupons in view.

So glad to get this off my chest,
for here in my household at rest,
   long twirls of receipts...
      for me are no treats.
Such stupid waste still unaddressed!
