I Know

I’m writing this poem to those
who are living life in the dark
I know you have some secrets
and I know you don’t want to set off a spark

You’ll know who you are in a minute
when you read my words here on this page
For your face has seen many tears
and long ago you started to age.

There’s a look that I can recognize
in someone now that I used to be
It saddens me more than you know
I wish that you could see what I see

For if you were to have known me then
and see how far I have come
From those days of being filled with fear
from another ones temper did I succumb

Oh yes, I’m familiar with those days
of “tripping and falling” down the stairs
Or running into the doorway
And being tired of all others glares

Better you just stay home after that
after those clumsy days of yours
and avoid people altogether
and avoid explaining your new sores

I’m writing to tell you something
it’s something you need to hear
Nobody deserves to be treated like this
so tell yourself that freedom is near

You’re much stronger than you think you are
just look at what you’ve endured
No lamb could have ever survived your plight
and WRONG carries a sentence, rest assured.

So know that you’re not alone anymore
there are plenty of us you can trust
we’ll be there to help you every step of the way
and soon your life will be just

the next time your precious partner
comes at you with all that they’ve got
put up your hand and say to his face
there’s something that I have been taught

You have no right to assault me
no right to do me any harm
and if you continue this behavior
You’ll be the one with cause for alarm

Touch one more hair on my head
My friends will be here and help me say
I’m going to be safe, you’ll never see me again
And you’re going to be put safely away.

In Ordinary Cups

The blades of winter grind into the ice
like blood on a bitten lip
two lovers spin and twirl
The days pass from teacup to teacup
in the peaceful silence of a solitary nest.
From gentle easy sunrise through sheer white
to the subtle fall of accordion night.

The echoes of childish laughter tremble
across the cracked surface of plaster walls.
Random squeaks in oaken floors return
the footfall of father, coming and going.

Long lost cat's paw prints impress carpet
dragons from Shanghai with ghostly ease,
and every loved and loving one returns
in peace, to rest beneath the tapping fingertips
upon a porcelain cup of tea from China.

The Teetotaler

The blades of winter grind into the ice, flirting
with the rosy cheek of puppy love, snow-crusted mittens
cling, like chapped skin on bitten lips; scarfs twirl; they spin.

As steam rises from the cup, reminisce, the first kiss,
across swamp-grass hummocks, rotten ice, lace tripping
with the rosy cheek of puppy love; snow crusted mittens

cling. Black hair, fair skin, Irish-eyed, he cajoles a grin.
In the steam, not the leaves, she remembers him
across swamp-grass hummocks, rotten ice, lace tripping;

they spin. Assam seeps in porcelain, another cup
she pours. In an empty nest the cup clinks saucer,
in the steam, not the leaves, she remembers him.

From sunrise through fall of white, she sees the mist
falling accordion-like into chinks of memory.
She pours. In an empty nest, the cup clinks saucer.

The recollections of youthful laughter cut, tremble,
across the cracked surfaces of her mind's walls
falling accordion-like into chinks of memory.

Random squeaks in the oaken floors recall returns,
these images mist swirl from the tea-of family,
across the cracked surfaces of her mind's walls.

A long lost cat walks shrouded through silent the scene
in peace, they rest beneath her tapping fingertips
these images mist-swirl from the tea-of family,

Every loved and loving one returns mist-born
within a porcelain cup of tea from China;
in peace, they rest beneath her tapping fingertips.

Non Chem Trails

i saw circles
being drawn
in the sky

most folks
call them
buzzards

but others
like myself
prefer turkey

vultures
no fault of
theirs as

they fly over
a joni mitchell
parking lot

where there
in the lonely
is my first

road tripping
yellow chevy
chevette

hatchback
of course
not quasi

modo
hunchback
or even once

thought to
be a certain
musical sub

marine
but what
does this

sight
this vision
of visions mean

these birds
circle only
the dead or

dying
so it
might

seem that
my life that
has passed

is exactly
just that
though

even though
i liked my
past i'm

loving the
possabilaties
of my future

Give Me a Crown, Not a Trophy!

Modesty is for the one not seeking more,
I came crashing like a wave to rage
my battle over the undeserving one;
I declared my right and proclaimed it on stage..

Give a crown, not a trophy...
I struggled through years of obstinacies,
while others celebrated their life with garb:
nothing was given to me, I earned every degree;
when courage was scarce, I clinged to myself,
hoping that a better day would come!

Riches can make an individual's life free of needless pain,
and from that inheritance I never received a dime:
my careless dad squandered it on a wicked woman,
whose lust for pleasure was as lurid as her mind;
and my quest for a brighter tomorrow remained silent,
but this inner voice was there...to guide my step!

Give a crown, not a trophy...
I outran everyone tripping and falling,
and my stamina got me to the finishing line;
my sweat felt like warm rain
and its raindrops seemed the jewels on that crown
that I had dreamt of winning!
Give a crown, not a trophy;
and do I ask much for this formidable try?

Wealth keeps many from being famous,
it may be rooted in laziness, or a life-style of comfort:
I have neither felt it nor enjoyed it...or even come close;
it isn't given without a cost...it must be earned without haste,
and if it is a crown you are after,
put away all your stubbornness and dare!

Premium Member Wonderland III: The Watchmaker's Tale

Morning

Having sighed a great sigh
He perused all his tools
From the mainsprings and tweezers
To the wheels and the jewels.

He removed the large case latch
From the pocket watch cover
To survey all the insides
As he would any other.

He wasn't familiar
With a watch of that kind
And confused why the workings
Ran two days behind.

He adjusted his loupe lens
And then gasped at least twice
At the solid gold workings
Inside the device.

Noon

He rang up the owner
Who was due to arrive
At the shop to collect it
At twelve twenty-five.

"OK I will fix it
In time for your date
But as it's important
I'm upping my rate."

The owner grew worried
And made it quite clear
By accepting the offer
Amid cries of "Oh Dear!"

The watchmaker laughed
As he put the phone down.
He could now spend the extra
That night in the town.

Night

Once inside of The Tabard
He ignored his bad health
And turned to his drinking
To help pardon himself.

Having switched all the gold
In the watch for cheap tack
He swapped some for whisky
With a man in the back.

On his way home he stumbled
Through the storm and the wind
Tripping over a cat
Who'd appeared and just grinned.

Later That Night

Slumped under a tree
And left gasping for air
The watchmaker's own time
Stopped right then and there.

The Ventriloquist's Dummy

At the strip you see colorful lights,
you walk tripping over your own lines,
shouting words that never crossed your mind,
while your vaults are getting lighter.

Under the counters, death hides
without its scythe—waiting.

The air you breathe
smokes your ing lungs,
the food you eat
serves you dinner
in the emergency room,
as you laugh at the romance,
watching a favorite TV show.

The newspaper prints in blood,
forty-two homicides before breakfast,
carved into the morning broadcast,
as you applaud an idol’s outfit.

No institution speaks,
as you believe you ever had a choice.
One door away from war,
as you shiver inside walls.
Sitting in your kitchen,
memorizing stains on the wall.

You numb yourself with distraction
as you burn others for printed paper.
Pretending it seals your wounds:
"Let me have a cellphone, a toaster and a fridge
then I'll be happy."

You sit in silence,
using a monitor
as a frame for your head.

Programmed to scroll down,
giving hearts for bathtub streaming,
you feed desire through a screen.
They hover above you,
sipping your soul with a straw,
their pockets choking—
still asking for more.

A machine seeking life,
barking for attention,
misled by your own leash.

Silent, your mouth still moving,
drooling—watching
your neighbour’s rooftop pool.

I Lost

I lost
but at what cost
I wrote that poem from my heart
I thought it'd be a great start
to show the ugly side of addiction
I guess I was tripping
but the truth shall be seen
it was already foretold forseen
I should have tried harder
been a little smarter
and maybe I would have won
maybe the next one
because addiction is real
children forced to deal
on there own without a meal
I bet your saying she cant be for real
yet my poem they did not choose
would have never thought I would lose
so again I try
I refuse to cry
ill just go harder
and not play the mauder
the ones chosen were absolutely amazing
this is just me doing a little hating
but still I rise
and one day I will win that prize

The Agony Outside

The Agony Outside

Still sitting here wondering why my reflection always fades
And how that the phantom me causes shadows in the shade
Flying over thoughtless things as my sanity starts to slide
Breathing in the toxic fumes from the pollution of moral lies...

So intelligent but don't understand the things I contemplate
Lonely boy in the corner scrutinizing his own fate
Why is everything so confusing now brain activity losing pace
Crying on the shoulder of the reflection of his own face...

Time is running out tripping over the edge of being too deep
Life is just one endless day going months without sleep
The progress within killing me may be running a bit too high
Still left with doubt and wondering whether to live or to die...

Happy Anniversary

1st date was at the movies
When I saw you it was like a movie
Thoughts romantically moving
In slow motion
My words driving to Fast and Furious tripping over themselves
I still remember that feeling from the beginning, like 50 First Dates
Memories hugged between suspense and bliss, live rent free in my dreams
Some are searching for that warmth again, but I don't have to
The cold goes away every time I look at u
We slow dance in the middle of the street in La La Land
Slow dancing to Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist with you is a forever vibe
Everytime we go to buy groceries, let's slow dance in the middle of the store aisle
Fast forward through the distance and time
I'm crying seeing you walk down the aisle
We hold hands through the vows
It still feels like we are at the movies, Deja Vu...take a bow
The way you smile, mmm something about the way you smile
I know I'm sorry is not enough to pick up the pieces but I'm trying to do better and I hope you can see
I work long hours so we can spend long hours on the beach
I want to provide for our family
It just the beginning but I have the end in mind
Stress and the grind, communication and time
I know I have to be vunerable but I'm still learning how
How to walk each step with you and not be too proud to do everything on my own
No longer on my own, even though I act like it sometimes
I am ashamed of myself sometimes, or the self you see sometimes
I'm trying to be patient but the frustration causes me to move too fast sometimes
I'm not trying to leave you behind, I get beside myself at times
Two year anniversary in 2020 and the growth had certainly come with time
I know it's hard to see right now but one day we will see it, the same way I see you, and the same way you see me
Plain as day but our future is as bright the stars that I sleep under in my dreams
Stars that reside in your eyes
Stars as beautiful as diamonds with the warmth of twilight
And we will do it all together as a family under God
Together we are the best team, so when we argue remember we are on the same team
I love you more will forever ring
Like the rock on your finger
My feelings for you will linger
After the ending credits
Never forget this
P.s. I love you...

Premium Member Ten Again

Some things never skip beyond recollection,
instead, they hover in a secret closet of memories -
innocent moments when we had stopped to sniff...
      both roses and skunk cabbage
just to find out how they earned their names

not sure who won

Too wimpy to become true blood brothers cuz no one
wanted to prick their finger first

Mom took away the broken antenna arms we used
as "Zorro" swords - thanks Mom, we can see better now

Out chasing fireflies - tripping through the dark
   chasing light or

the backyard "tent out"...late and laughing over something
totally silly, as flashlights fought like Flash Gordon on
          the tent ceiling

and parents looked out wishing they were ten again
        as we do now...
