Ours is not a friendship sired by accident.
and though the misplaced days
I enumerated as grains of sand,
Apart, we both were as sonar blips without detection,
But then from a heart's depth,
A letter, a call, an e-mail, a visit;
we were no longer as candles, detached, in low flame,
Time and circumstance had been abridged.
Our friendship, once again, has become a game
having no rules and without rhyme or reason;
Because a time of absent desire had turned to willingness,
A misplaced friendship was granted new life;
and because one besought,
Through God's Grace the love that exists between two families
was born.
We Love you S & R
Always been a big fan of the Radio
TV well my Mum couldn’t careless
Would confess fonder of the caress
Tireless wonder finesse of “the wireless”
Always on ever since I was an embryo
In the Honda & then in the Nissan
Over yonder in gazebo we'd listen
Rejoice ponder familiar voice glisten
Our sonar condor no similar frisson
Views criss-cross across the entire globe
Stations who do news will inspire a probe
Rascals liar lair laid bare debacles disrobe
Swayed stoking stroking amuse every lobe
Kaleidoscopic topic musical made strobe
Dismayed why choose to be a radio-phobe?
Homegrown seeds sown cultural parlophone
Smoothed grooved & moved by that tone
Velvet timbres soothed never ever alone
Over years wistful relationships does hone
Not prone to drone or moan in the zone
Wink don’t think my love is overblown
Hits flits skits fits sits on its media throne
Well this is not my first Marconi rodeo
Tip top drops from all the latest crops
Greatest track stack never stalls stops
Daily diet from the quiet no not paleo
Word play riot foray from the Deejay
Won’t tip toe or be some Pinocchio
Hooray helps me get through the day
Ego glow feels like just for me.. my beau
Know with VPN zen then even when away
What it does bestow.. a hero like Horatio
Which's why I do crow so about the RADIO!
Your message arrives at midnight.
A green phone lights in the dark
from a submarine at periscope depth.

You ask how
I've been.
You tell me
it's raining
on the train
you're taking
to ride home.
Just thought
I would give
you a ring.
Is now a good
time for you?
How are you?
Is all OK?
Nothing urgent
Nothing wrong
just wanted
to touch base.
-------------------
A long pause,
someone laughs,
a cough nearby
tracks clatter
a horn sounds
like a sonar
ping echo
Down scope!
They're gone
What's left? A dial tone ... hmm hum.
Preface to this brief bitty
written snap ting snapshot – word ditty
dates back before I reached gritty
age of eight and fifty, aye recall a kitty
rescued by my youngest sister, who took pity
and felt aghast,
at a potential cruel fate no witty.
Upon return home from an Antioch College coup
(so many diverse work experiences required -
some involving offal goop
i.e. case in point being this anecdote,
which may fall outside the loop
of common “hands on
off fish shawl” employment,
thee tasks on par with handling poop
stoically accepted by Shari Todd
(name of said sibling),
who when home from Davis, California
(albeit temporarily, and before she returned
to Yellow Springs, Ohio) divulged
how she did scoop
dread, dreck, dregs, et, cetera –
i.e. by product amidst fish farm
didst set her dead against being linkedin
purr animal cruelty, thus play role of troop
er – which tummy
earned her kudos a resounding whoop!

Before launching into this poem purr say
lemme mention how thine late mother
took an immediate affinity and hence no delay
that this lucky creature became akin to a bebe.
Main Coon, Felis catus, nicknamed Boozie
raccoon features, face mask, brown thick costume
handsome boy, affectionate personality, expressively vocal
Pink wet nose, emerald eyes, pointed ears
cavernous mouth, sharp teeth, rough tongue
striped design, massive fluffy fur, bushy tail
Soft paws, padded cushions, retractable blades
wild animal, predation urge, survival instinct
agile movement, swift motion, unfortunate victim
Door prize, flies feast, whitened bones
loyalty strong, pageant display,
splayed across kitchen table courtly dignity
Quiet house, sonar sounded, Cheshire upward smile
purred softly, rubbed legs, warm vacant lap
Jumping agility, firmly sequestered
Contentment expressed, internal hum, reciprocal therapy
beautiful petsmart, little monkey, comfortably sleeps
peaceful slumber, wakeful stretch, ideal life
Fortunate intervention, cat whisker to demise,
brush avoided becoming piscine meal,
kingly privileged role, heartfelt love.

"No Heart"
Studied a flowchart
Then opened a letter with postmarks
Is a slow start
Better than having no part?
Everybody thinks they're so smart
A divided world continuing to grow apart
Listening to music by Mozart
While making my very own art
My soul dark
Cold and sharp
Even when I'm an old fart
Take you out with a blow dart
And speed off in a go-kart
Don't start
What you can't finish, if you got no heart
You most likely will not go far
Just like time has shown so far
Left the boatyard
Then saw the coastguard
While I was using sonar
And holding a crowbar
I will deal you the most harm
If your responsible for letting folks starve
I'll make you sink quick, won't let you float far
Hot summers day
By the swimming pool
My love and I
Drooling for cool
Splash, were in
Mucking about
She's teasing me wicked
Flashing in pout
Underwater we dive
Chasing lovers
Touching, clinging
Revealing each other
Naked we are
In delightful swim
A sense of want
She and him
They swim to each other
Their lips meet
Bobbing, kissing
As their bodies greet
The serpent rises
To her lair he seeks
Receptive desires
Swimming pool deep
Pert she becomes
Piercing his chest
Excitement of two
On he she rests
Waves of delight
Caress each other
Reaching out
From their kissing smother
Harmonious joys
Their sonar sound
In loving grind
Translucent found
Resonating passion
Surface carried
Adventurous hands
So loving, varied
Their internal flumes
In joyous mix
Their kissing caps
Eyes transfixed
From the pool they climb
Each other they dry
Still absorbed
Together they lie

Stephen used to have sprinter Richard Whitehead,
As a team member when he did play ice hockey,
Before he became a sonar sailor, the water to wed,
In disability sport, the key was his sporting degree.
He played for the under 18 Wales rugby union team,
Because he lives in Bridgend, from Ogmore Valley,
Then he contracted meningoccal septicaemia, deem,
‘Cos this amputated his legs to make everything ok.
His ice hockey team did well coming third in Turin,
And in Athens at the World’s his team got a bronze,
Then in Beijing they came sixth in that hot condition,
But was disappointed at London by penalty neons.
This life
Revolving me around the sun as an elite on this earth my gift,
a present moment fiat
churning days of joy, bittersweets tears, laughter, chagrins
forever partaking, its all me ;
Sensations burning, yearning, learning, accompanied by others
this life that I have chosen from the moment of orb conception
is a volunteered existence, pre-promised
I am following my destiny, wherever it leadeth me ...
My Next Life
I am the essence of His calling deeper then the Marianna trench
a sonar topography returning to the waters of His jet
Like a dying sunset glow, I am His nimbus one more time
returning to the equilibrium of one last outlet
inside the Buddhist wheel, a sacred scroll holds my name
I never do it twice the same, this is my refrain...
As My Breath Flows Here And Now
Succumbing to the memory loss of my last womb experience
I take first breath, first sight into a newborn family of old;
If each lifetime brings an origami experience, a soluble lesson
then let it be me again, and again, and again....

Listen to the orchestral tune,
The sea sings its song as the ship moves along,
Serenading to the silvery moon.
The wind swishes and whooshes, humming its song,
As it wings on its winding way.
The strings of the stays strum along,
As the ship does its swing and a sway.
The wake bubbles aft,
The peak slams a beat like a retreat,
While the wake works up a cadence with the turn of the shaft.
The sea, a grand orchestra plays,
Its symphony so wild and free,
A melody of sights and sounds,
Nature's grand symphony.
Loose blocks beat a tattooed rhythm,
As the ship moves through the night,
The boats creaking at the davits,
Add to the sounds that ignite.
The thrum of the engines, constant and low,
Adds bass to the sea's melody,
While the pings of the sonar, high and fast,
Make the perfect harmony.
Tolling of the ship's bell, clear and strong,
Joining the choir with glee,
And the bellow of the foghorn loud and long,
A trumpet of the sea.
Flurry of seamen, busy and bright,
Adds to the orchestra's play,
As howling winds and banshee screams,
Compete with the symphony at bay.
Listen to the orchestral tune,
The sea sings its song as the ship moves along,
Serenading to the silvery moon,
The strings of the stays strum along.
As the orchestra plays, the ship moves on,
In a grand symphony of the sea,
Nature's beauty on full display,
A breathtaking sight to see.

Ours has never been a fortuitous friendship,
For God ordained that it should be.
While absent, you were akin to a sonar blip,
That God knew I couldn't hear or see.
But on a blustery day at His command,
From an inquisitive heart, we were lettered.
The days once enumerated as grains of sand,
Were exiled and a love was unfettered.
Apart, we existed as candles without flame,
While distanced by that thief I'll call time.
Being friends with you borders a playground game,
Void of rules and without reason or rhyme.
I oft thank God for reaching into your heart,
Placing there, a reason, to give us thought.
Our friendship was granted a fresh new start,
Through God's grace, and because you sought.
Dedicated to Shirlene on the first anniversary
of her return to our lives. What a joy she has been.
