Listen up, 'cause I'm about to spit some truth
About a disease that's eating our society from the root
Corruption, the silent killer, the thief in the night
Stealing our future, our justice, our right
Bribes exchanging hands, backdoor deals in the dark
While the common folk struggle, just trying to make their mark
Services meant for all, now reserved for a few
Tell me, is this the society we ever knew?
Plato's spinning in his grave, his ideal state in shambles
As the guardians of our republic take part in corrupt gambles
Aristotle's golden mean? More like a rusty scale
Tipped in favour of the rich, leaving the poor to wail
John Rawls cries out from behind his veil of ignorance
"Where's the fairness? The justice? This ain't what I meant!"
The social contract in tatters, Rousseau's dream undone
When public service becomes a race that can't be won
Corruption kills! It kills our schools, our hospitals, our streets
It kills our faith in leaders, in the cop on the beat
It kills our children's future, their chance to rise and shine
It kills our very soul, crossing every moral line
Kant would ask, "Is this universal? Could all act this way?"
If everyone was corrupt, society would decay
But here we are, watching it crumble day by day
As the corrupt few steal everyone else's say
So what do we do? How do we break this chain?
How do we wash away this deep, pervasive stain?
It starts with us, with you, with me, with all
Standing up, speaking out, refusing to fall
For every bribe refused, every whistleblower brave
We claw back our future from corruption's grave
It's time to rise, to fight, to make things right
To bring our society back into the light
Because justice ain't just a word, it's our lifeline
Fairness ain't a luxury, it should be yours and mine
Well-being ain't for sale, it's our birthright
So stand up, speak out, and join the fight!
Against corruption, against the rot
For the society we want, not the one we've got
The philosophers of old, showed us the way
Now it's up to us to seize a better day!
My first taste of GOD was fed to me by my dear mother when she prayed with me by the bedside each night as she resighted to me The Lord's Prayer.
Our FAMILY consisted of 12 children, mom, dad, grandma, and a dog named Jack. In my mind, I can presently see that big kitchen table and all of us gathered to eat. Our parents taught us by example the value of our family and our relatives. We visited our relatives on a regular basis and always feasted on the big three: fun, fellowship, and delicious food.
We all went to Sunday school every Sunday and to CHURCH worship services once a month. There were scheduled revivals and water baptisms once a year
In 55 years, I have spoken to only one childhood friend, and that was by telephone. I also saw him once more than 40 years ago. They were never
forgotten, but other FRIENDS took their place.
When I see where I am today, I remember all the ADVERSITIES and acknowledge the goodness and grace of God.
The CAREER path that I took was decided when I was 14 years of age. Every road I ever took always connected me to that path.
I remember the moment when I knew that she was the one. We have been
MARRIED for 50 years, and she's still the one.
The one ABODE that brings the most pain is the one that's no longer there.
In the 8th grade, I played on our school's basketball team. The games I most
Remember is one game that we lost by a large margin and one game that we won. There was no competition in the one we lost, 52 to 12. In that game, I learned about LOSING.
The other game was one of the games we won in which I scored 4 pivotal points that changed the tempo of the game. In that game, I learned about WINNING. 100322PS
Him fountain of eternal joy from
Where life is renewed,
Ageing and life to be drained out, exit
From the world is nigh,
When suddenly comes a call from him
Above, who regulates
The flow of life through cycles of many
Births and deaths, to stop.
Suddenly sounds the drum from sky for the
Second act of play,
Life really awakens, drooping life
Joyfully responds to the call;
The wintry night desolate soon turns
Into a joyous spring day,
Undoing death, His rhythm and dance
Rejuvenates life force.
The flow of life from star to star
Follows the rhythm of his dance,
Freed from the confinement of matters
Th'Earth finds salvation;
With multitudinous fruits and grains and
Flowers of myriad hues
Her baskets of seasons are filled to the
Till and brim and all.
Thus she attains the fulfillment at the
Touch of his dancing feet,
The flow of life gushes up from death
Following incessantly
The pattern of his rhythm and dance, to the
Tune of his golden flute;
In the tornado of this violent dance,
All that is withered falls.
The triumphal arch of life is erected
Midst the joyful tunes,
And the journey of this spring meanders
Towards the fountain again.
This poem was originally written in Bengali Language by Rabeendranath Tagore. Its Bengali Title was Udbodhan. It was then translated into English by Mr. Rabeendranath Choudhury who expressed his wish that somebody from some other generation may attempt the rest so that all the English-speaking people may enjoy India's Pride. And here it is, slightly edited and recast in the true poetic form by P.S. Remesh Chandran, Editor, Sahyadri Books & Bloom Books, Trivandrum.

The cares of the world, are weighing me down.
To the point, that I wanted my thoughts; to drown.
Bills owed, finding their way to the mail box.
I want to pay them, but; I have too many roadblocks.
Collectors harassing day in and day out on the telephone.
Even on the "do not call" list they still won't leave you alone.
I try and develop a plan to suppress the harassment.
That didn't last very long, or even bring any appeasement.
The greedsome collectors send a pile, that is a waste of trees.
Just to collect their "grub" and jacked up hideous fees!
Then the greedsome collectors called me at work!
I called them back mad and was about to go berserk!
Then I received a whopping medical bill.
I felt so sick with disgust, I think I feel "ill".
In the mail was a pink envelope and what was inside?
An insurance bill that read "if not paid" then services denied.
I come home from my job feeling somber and "spent".
I opened up my check, of course; the government took their "cent".
They say when it rains, it pours.
Life’s tedious doldrums but, a different day; and more downpour!
No Toilet Paper
My mind is boggled.
What is with the Coronavirus mania?
Why is everyone going freaking nuts over this?
From what this writer understands,
It is much like the regular flu,
Which is killing thousands as we speak, and
Hospitalizing even more. And this has been going on,
As long as I have been alive since 1952.
But this particular microbe is novel, and
Since little is known about it apparently,
People are afraid they will “get it.”
So off to Costco they all go, and
Buy as much toilet paper they are all permitted to buy,
Take it home, store or hide it with the other family treasures,
And then realize, inexplicably, that now
They are all magically immune to “getting it.”
Is that what these crazed souls are thinking?
I can think of a fate worse than “getting it.”
Worse than sports games being cancelled;
Worse than concerts and plays going on indefinite hiatus;
Worse than school classes and Sunday services finding the exit door, for now;
Worse than millions of vacations being cancelled, and
Entire industries being brought to their knees;
Worse than the world economy taking a complete nosedive
Into depression and financial paralysis;
Worse than millions of human beings dying
Horrible, agonizing deaths due to this little microbe.
No, I can think of something even worse.
Imagine going to Steak Corral - All You Can Eat,
One night soon, and you wanted your money’s worth.
So you load up your plate with:
Whiskey-laced, barbecued baked beans and garlic bread;
Two breadcrumb-laced quarter pound char-burgers,
Each smothered in a half dozen beer-breaded onion rings,
With ranch dressing dripping over them like lava.
Then you go get some more beans on french fries with
Big raw garlic chunks nestled in them, and then,
You wash it all down with three beers.
Imagine the next morning.
Imagine the horror, the horror,
Of voiding all that Steak Corral stuff, and then
Having the absolute worst possible thing
Happen to you in today’s crisis times.
No toilet paper.
With simplicity, he executes
His services as due and suits.
To promote cordial relationship;
An artisan cum craftsmanship.
For proper growth to taking its place...
Which character brace up cum grace.
Even on a bad day, NAH ME serves
Equal what smiling face deserves.
Now gone; off stress of what to become
Or how to become what please Mum.
Wishes unspoken; all now are nights
Hoping to see the break of lights.
Dreams he had lived, flied with his soul;
Deeply end with breaths, his sighs roll...
Laid down his sword, gun and kits on earth;
Taken away through grave time's dearth.
ASEESE went rowdy peacefully.
Whose car hit accidentally?
No one knows; driver speed off in haste,
To prevent his flesh unto baste*
Why such speed on ONE-LANE to beat time?
While others keep calm; traffic's crime!
Last last, most blame it on timing fate,
But not this, his destiny bait.
Bolaji elegantly left us
And the Akinronbis to fuss.
Rest on dear brother, though you left soon;
Crying fortitude to sing boon!
This candidate has a background of varied industries and roles.
The experiences help me bond opposition to engage their souls.
Bravely bringing a refreshing personality and approach to tasks.
The passion forces those I connect with to remove their masks.
These lost clients cooperated for me, unlike my predecessors.
The legacy causes big shoes to be filled for my successors.
This yields an unusual level of outstanding balances collected.
Causing head scratching from outcomes better than expected.
By cleaning up these accounts with the loyal janitor mindset.
I’ve made delinquent accounts appear as if they had a reset.
Thoughtfully evaluating balances and prioritizing my attacks.
Analyzing to determine when and how to focus on the acts.
Balancing my time of calls and emails with appropriate efforts.
To creatively break through barriers of the protected AP forts.
With 8 years at Passport Services I prepared to be an A/R star.
Cendyn let me prove my skills, so I dropped down the aging far.
Making new contacts and seeing millions roll in their account.
Watching the old balances paid up made me cheer and shout.
I’m prepared to track your revenue as deposits post each day.
Thanks for reading these lines to hear what an AR poet can say.
It’s not a standard cover-letter, as I give more than expected.
To mend fences with clients and make a company respected.
Clearly you have other candidates to fully consider and review.
But this free agent is on the market, so contact me to interview.
They restricted celebrations,
forget your relations.
They restricted travel,
watched families unravel.
They restricted purchases,
no provided services.
They closed the schools,
those were the new rules.
They closed the churches,
no Sunday soul searches.
They closed the gyms
and the flab begins.
They closed the restaurants,
forget sweet tooth wants.
They closed the theaters,
no full-length features.
They closed retail stores,
no welcoming doors.
They closed the bars,
murmurs of wars.
Society accepted it as well as they could,
as everyone felt the need to be good.
But then they closed the brothel –
an act so heinously hostile –
What? You call that a plan!
That’s when the fight began.
SHOPPING IN BELFAST (70s Style)
Hundreds of shuffling feet, herded like Cattle, through the big iron gates to the city Centre
Through to the freezing sheltered holding area with its grey block walls and long protruding metal posts which hold up the roof
The wind drives the rain, cold, cold rain, which drums a rhythm on the moss tainted plastic corrugated roof
Handbags and shopping bags are surrendered onto a long line of big wooden tables
Strangers in a dark Blue Uniform with peaked caps and mute expressions search through peoples personal belongings
Then more strangers, seek out men at random, to further search their pockets, collars and hoods
Policemen with Machine guns stand talking in small groups, one nods at me with a reassuring smile
Nervous Young Soldiers grip their Rifles tightly and stare at people with a look of distain
They spot a pretty girl, their glances fixed, their attention momentarily distracted
Eventually we are there. We’re in the city Centre, now mum can trail me round the shops
But wait! All the shops have more strangers in blue uniforms searching people and bags
So much time being checked, even as a six year old, it makes you wonder if there's enough time left to shop
Thoroughly searched and everything bought, out of the shops,feet tired and ready to go home
Now on to the exit gates of the city, a city ringed with a green metal spiked fence, “the ring of steel”
Nobody really wanted to hang around once darkness approached; the Centre wasn't very safe place at night
No point waiting on a bus, the nightly riots where starting so services were suspended again
It's a bit of a trek back home through the dusky, wet rain swept streets, sore feet or not
Then soon, yeahhh, it's our house, some dinner and a bath in front of the fire. Bliss
