Premium Member Spider

He sat up in the corner and he sensed impending doom
With two ‘two leggers’ flat against the wall across the room
His mother said don’t worry that you’re just a tiny spider
Stand your ground, my son, and spread your legs a little wider
For here’s a secret that is gonna give you quite a giggle
The humans have a seizure when you give your legs a wriggle

So he giggled as he wriggled then he dropped onto the mat
And lay still for a moment so he didn’t wake the cat
Then slowly hauled himself back up toward his ceiling lair
The humans now stood squealing on a table and a chair
So, showing off now, spidey made his hairy body quiver
And revelled in his triumph as he watched the humans shiver

But pride doth come before a fall and spiders do not differ
A blast of fly spray made our spider feel a little stiffer
And as our humans found that they now felt a little bold
Each stepped forward, now wielding the magazines they’d rolled
So now our scary spider found his joke had fallen flat
And as his brain went through his butt he heard his last sound.....
SPLAT!!!

Premium Member A Peaceful Somewhere

As children we revelled in nature’s playground
Lying in cool grass watching clouds sail by
Sharing with playmates ‘treasures’ we’d found
Caterpillars, beetles - a dead dragonfly
Jars of black tadpoles sprouting from frogs’ eggs
Gathered near cattails - a muddy pond’s edge
Safe in a matchbox - a daddy longlegs
We pine for these days as memory we dredge
So keep them in mind - those halcyon days
Whenever our cares prove too much to bear
When life becomes an impossible maze
Try to escape to a peaceful ‘somewhere’

Remember the lessons from nature you drew
They’ll always there to help pull you through

Magician

he wove his spells meticulously
constructed each with loving care
each component ingredient chosen
from the very best that there were
and of course his care was rewarded
his fame just grew and grew and grew
but he had a secret ambition
that only he and I knew

from his inter dimensional office
he could hop through time and space
gloat at the awe and wonder displayed
on his primitive audience collective face
and he travelled worlds and eras
revelled in his universal fame
enjoyed the sense of power
inspired by his worshipped name

but dimension security enforcement
was rapidly closing in on his crime
for his moving skills back and forth
was playing heck with congruent time
he knew his days were numbered
but his preparations were all but made
to achieve his yearned for ambition
the final plans were all but laid

with just mega seconds to its fruition
he was very sadly and deviously tricked
into revealing his current location
and was very quickly nicked
he never achieved his ambition
it remained his secret as well
of course I knew the details
but I promised not to tell

Doggerel Artist

It was some hours of purgatory,
Self imposed, but all the same,
He thought of it as purgatory as
He listened to them declaim
Their long strings of words with
No apparent rhyme or reason,
As if joy and happiness had
Somehow fallen out of season.
They said he wrote doggerel
Of A Most Low And Debase Kind
Containing Very Little Substance
To Stimulate And Feed The Mind.
They inferred he wasn’t welcome
In their flagellatory poetry clubs
Which really pleased him because
He preferred to perform in pubs.

There was a real sense of victory
Using his drill instructor’s voice
To make himself heard above
The normal drinkers noise
He would get their attention ,
Conversations would stop,
You could almost hear at tines
That fabled pin drop.

So many of those drinkers
Happy to give their time
To just stand and listen to
His worthless low based rhyme.
Oh he was well aware that
He wasn’t intellectually lauded
But that couldn't hold a candle to
The joy when a bar applauded.
In the realm of the intellectuals
Much self worth was raised
As they revelled in their world
Of much mutual self praise.
And out in the mundane world
Of the pub, the club and bar
He was regularly applauded as
An open mic performance star.

Premium Member White To the Black

As the years passed as their darkened grip grew
The white right began their searching pursue

Armies they, to the black attacked
Fearing nothing but good, for freedom they react

Legions of Hades descended on mother earth
Decrying her beauty and saviour so worth

Fortresses they built, their base for campaign
For they revelled to he, forever to remain

But unknown to the dark, white disciples remained strong
For they will fight for their lands, for they belong

In masses they approach this darkened keep
Their intention to deliver plight as their light gently weeps

Hour after hour as the battle rages on
Pincer movements never dent this darkened brawn

Suddenly, in the afternoon sun, clouds so dark, is evils triumph in stride
Ebony wings many miles wide, above this theatre in gentle glide

Circling as they soar, below cobalt steel clouds
Golden Eagles so regal, their glides resonate loud

Natures fury awakens as she joins in the cause
Thunder and lightning crashes on their darkened laws

Flames rage through their keep whilst the ground below shakes
Bringing walls and towers down against an redding orange drape

Cries of death resonate through the acrid black air
Whilst the armies of the right in salute stand and stare

These legions from Hades from our world, now gone

Never To Old For the Sandman

Never To Old For The Sandman!

Ah...respite relished sleeping like a baby,
variations on theme I iterate
impossible to stave of sleepiness,
nor advantageous to struggle against weight
of heavy eyelids akin
to bajillion tons of freight

after squeezing out every iota of energy,
whether mental or physical exhaustive state
subsequently pleasurable surrendering
into realm where unpredictable self portrait,
where pleasant dreams await
a personalized vividly dynamic

realm, where consciousness doth abdicate
analogous to A Stop at Willoughby
Season 1; Episode 30 of Twilight zone
May 6, 1960 - Original air date
though evocative images fill mindscape,
I immediately forget conglomerate

sans, illusory wonderful world
potential motherlode, did create
a bittersweet dire straight,
asper this aspiring scrivener
REM recall equals absolute zero
no matter awakening eye designate
natural process this body to facilitate

transitioning to formulate
after juncture of adequate
time ample restoration did satiate
yours truly revelled within tete a tete
among "FAKE" persons mine
unconscious did amazingly, gracefully,
and inexplicably generate.

FIRST MEN TO LAND ON MOON

We were returning from space
To colonise would become a race

Over population is bound to come
Moon or mars would become home for some

Tension was mounting high
I didn’t hear my companion sigh

History was been recorded
Would we survive to be rewarded

Almost a fait accompli
We were hurtling towards the sea

Our mission must not now fail
I nervously adjusted my mask to inhale

First men to land on moon
Reporters would write, very soon

But first the big splash
Let’s not be rash

Neil and I were alert
Politeness was trivial, we were curt

Stand by for countdown, copy me
Minutes later we were in the sea

Men helped us out
Proud of us not doubt

Some could only gape
Astounded we’d arrived ship shape

The people began to cheer
Not having lived our fear

We thought of our future fame
And revelled in it once again!

Venice's Splendor

A city made from nothing,
on a lagoon with shallow waters
to keep the invaders away ;
still today those bell chimes ring out
to remind everyone of her victory
at Lapanto...when the ships
brought back the banners
of the defeated enemy!

Venice's splendor is seen everywhere...
 even in San Marco's Square,
 swarmed with pigeons and visitors,
 where the Venetians' genius built
a splendid Basilica reminiscent of their wealth
and power...making Venice: the Queen of the Sea!
Down the Rialto Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs,
gondolas row...carrying visitors and lovers;
the artists seek inspiration for their works,
while their stunned eyes are delighted by beauty,
which pulls them out of virtual reality!

Intrigue and mystic fascinated
many a devoted soul,
and the entire city echoed
with delirious voices breaking
the silence of midnight;
violins and lutes played in palaces
and in gondolas on the Grand Canal...
did anyone stare at the brilliant stars?

A masquerade was an invitation to love,
all disguised themselves behind a mask;
many were seduced by passions with haste...
as Venice revelled in their merry-making,
celebrating a glory that knew no ending;
and when it declined, it was deserted by all!

Venice's splendor seems eternal,
not diminishing through ages;
her fame ever-increasing and each stone
can tell a different story of people
who partook of her greatness,
leaving a legacy we regard as our own...

Testimony

I recall by chance the astuteness of rain
When the thin smoke from charged pulses of cold haze
Befriended the weeded way . . .
Leering further into the viscera of the village,
Clouds of old beginnings heaved potent sighs,
Loud, frenetic and full of powder.

I revelled in the warmth of acid lightning,
Quick to mirror the village in its own image.
The grey breath was intense,
Fusing teethed mirth with grim spheres.
Then came the vitrined harmony of fleeing spectres!
Tricks were revealed.
Tenebrous paths came to light.
And the rumps of sensuous fowls stood stark
Before the reality of weaned souls.

I recall lighting up a cigarette.
Adding to the atmospheric smoke,
I held on to the banter of coyness, flat,
Resolute, and with rummaged blessedness of initial stages
Blending well with the greed of May.
