Innocent Omission of a Lower Case M

Can’t Let Go

I met him on a glowing screen,
A voice, a name, a face unseen.
He said I was special, called me sweet,
I wanted him, couldn’t turn away.

I said no, I drew my line,
But he smiled, said it was fine.
I wanted him anyway, I let it slide,
I felt the thrill I couldn’t hide.

He said the words I longed to hear,
Made kindness sound so real, so near.
I wanted warmth, I wanted care,
But he was never really there.

A year of talking, nights that never slept,
I shared my world, secrets I had kept.
I gave my trust, held nothing back,
He took it all, left me off track.

Maybe he liked that I believed,
Every lie that he conceived.
He smiled while pulling me apart,
Then left the wreckage of my heart.

Did he really love me, or just the thrill?
I scroll through old messages, caught so still.
He’s gone, unadded, yet I still chase,
The memory of wanting, the empty trace.

Sometimes I cry, short bursts alone,
I scroll through memories I’ve always known.
I wanted him, the pull I couldn’t disown,
A mix of desire and the flaws he’s shown.

Weeks pass and I can’t stop thinking,
Every thought of him keeps my heart sinking.
I still want him, I can’t walk away,
The pull won’t fade, it stays every day.

The illumination of the soul

(A lone voice whispers)

As a person, you must know

Deep down

You're part of one of the most spiritually

Illuminating

Literary movements there has ever been

A gift sent to you for self-expression from The Great In-Between

A means to pull down old towers with new or old siege hooks

Open closed doors
By maybe writing a blog or book

To walk through anthills and moors

Of poetic stanzas

To find who you really are
As you pause and really look

For above all things
Magic in poetry is real

A form of rebellion from the mundane

A resolution
A Bonanza

To push back boundaries in a form of grassroots resistance

To power and social control

To be able to purge the destructive nature of humanity and the need to share its beauty

To those watching on patrol

As they go
For you are so gifted

So never be afraid to share your Illumination of the soul

For someone somewhere
Always needs to be lifted

Premium Member Cookie Cutter Day

On a whim,
a demon will grab a fistful of mind.
Slap it down- roll it out- sprinkle it with lye.
Then pull out its cookie cutter heart.
Press down hard...real hard...
Feed pieces of sanity to its hoard.
Half devoured, they crap you out.
Into the shadow of an indigo night.

Clear the eyes of the craggy miles.
Slug down a cup of fog.
What is that sharp pain, that dull sound?
Just beyond the cobbled soul...
Something just isn't right.
Stroke the cat
Sweep the floor
Croak "good mornings"
shower
Wash away that crazy gray.
Snakes are in the showerhead...again.

Go for a long walk.
Pick some daisies.
Hissing is in the swaying veins of the leaves.
The locust eats throat-deep into peace.

Stagger toward home into a hearth of talking bones.
Read the daily dread.
Stroke the cat again.
Take another nap.
Pray for a warm breeze dream to move the bloom of life.
Back into its golden vase heart to temper the pendulum.
Sweep the suckling demons from the chest...
Where the hell is my rolling pin God in all this f fin mess?

WHO I THOUGHT YOU WERE

Collaboration Poem Dave Wood and Jan Allison

You've gone and broken my heart in two
a thousand death night, I can't let it go
Now we're simply known as me and you
and together forever we will never know

Crushed and bleeding is my aching heart
this moonlit sky just makes me weak
Packed your bags, tore my world apart
wishing on stars 'cause I just can't sleep

Something so good, gone terribly wrong
it was in this very park where "we" began
I thought our relationship was oh so strong
now a lonely night's muse without my man

You walked out on me, you really didn’t care
hidden heart of stone a dreamer's saboteur
I pull out your photograph and simply stare
no longer dying for you..
but who I thought you were!

What's An Umbrella For

What's an umbrella for?
It shelters us from rain
that can be colder
than a chilly wind!
Grasp on its handle,
if it goes up, pull it down!
Many umbrellas are fragile,
made in China or not...
it may be floating as a kite,
if you don't hold it tight!

Umbrella have different shapes
and they come in different colors:
yellow as sunflowers or red as grapes;
one of those shades is actually ours!

What's an umbrella for?
To keep us dry until we get home,
or to keep the hot sun away
as on a summer's scorching day!
We've bought two of them
and we hang them on the back door!

Umbrellas reflect our unique style,
men like them dark,
women like them light;
whatever is your preference,
they perform well on rainy days...
have one handy and be dry for a mile!

The Language of Dust

In the end, we will laugh.

We will draw back the curtain and see there was never distance to cross. We were not away. We were not lost. We have always been home.
There is a table, with many already seated.
We will sit with them and join the meal.
Notice the chair holding you.
  Let the hands unclench.
 Notice light resting as dust,
with no promise of arrival. It gathers quietly on the table that was always there.
You do not have to earn the meal.
You do not have to understand the room.
You do not have to become anything more than what you already bring.
The language of dust says, there is no need to wait.
The meal has already been set.
The table was never withheld.
Only unseen
Pull the curtain away
You can sit at the table now.
So, Sit.
Sit now.
Nothing is wasted. Nothing is outside.
Everything participates
Sit and laugh a little sooner
Sooner than expected.

Premium Member Sad Songs

Sad sorrowful songs reduce me to tears
Bringing back memories made o'er the years
Of the emergence of my first romance
That ended because of someone's askance.

I moved on and found my only true love
Sent from the matchmaker in sky above
We have had our share of sorrow and pain
Sad songs remind me of those times again.

Tears are souvenirs of sadness it's true
Yet those tears can be of aid when we're blue
Music is the language of worldwide hearts
And sad songs pull heartstrings soon as they start.

Listening to songs sung to a sad tune
Tears fall as I slow dance around the room
Song and dance have an enchanted effect
Helping the heart and the mind reconnect.

Premium Member Extra Kissing

we fail
we fall
we step on cracks
the earth moves under our feet
we can’t stay still
our backs
to the wall
our eyes stuck in the muck
we can’t go back
we can only walk into the future
actually we are shoved
we’ve no choice, of that
we carry all our baggage
on our backs
it affects our hearts
pulls on the strings of our tear ducts
and there is nothing we can do
oh how we wish we’d go back to the past
pull each little one
on our laps
kiss them over and over again
tell them how rich you are
for having them
at that very moment
perhaps that extra kissing
will do the trick
each will never doubt again
nor give themself
to anything less than love
love sweet love
they will know it when they see it
weak knees, palpitations,
nothing less
and so much more
a shining knight
will never leave her side
a strong and humble lady
will be his pride

Solitude

Dancing trees and lily pads
and shadows on the ridge
Chocolate streams and waterfalls
flow far beneath the bridge

Neon lights in cursive form
with words to pull apart
Falling into to silent whims
will break a longing heart

Fingers trace a photograph
which once belonged inside
Rocket ships and satellites
there’s no place left to hide

Broken cups of China glass
in sinks around the world
Corners call in sorrowed weeps
as sadness is unfurled

Just outside the sun is bright
with blue skies far and near
Out beyond the curtains
is a scene so very clear

Follow down the winding path
till you can see your way
Let them know your smile glows
in magical display

Count the leaves of clover
as you stroll a sea of green
Four will be the number
that will bring about your dream

Nothing ever works the way
we think it often should
It seems there is an ounce of pain
to couple with the good

You’re sure to see the meaning
if you open up your eyes
And let the joy wash over you
when soon you realize

That friendship is a kind of gift
no holiday required
It hangs around the strangest place
in all that is desired

A hand will stretch the miles long
for just a small caress
And worry when you’re feeling low
If this I must confess

But if you find it genuine
while you are far from home
Your heart will feel the solitude
yet you are not alone
