I listen to my favorite song
Written the year that I was born
I listen to the poetry of my life
Played to familiar chords
I didn't exchange anything for this cage
My part in the war landed me here
Though far from a model prisoner
I've taken this time of incarceration
To heal the wounds inflicted from this latest battle
A battle for my sanity, my right to be me
A battle for my very soul
A battle that I won
Unfortunately I was unaware of the sleeper cell lying in wait
I was captured for my own good
The handcuffs very effectively silencing the screams made from my pen
A conversion therapy designed specifically for me
To turn me into you and you and you
I will not forget who I am
I will not forget this unique woman I have fallen in love with
I will play along
Make all my words be true for you
I'll smile that dazzling smile
Blinding you with its hypocrisy
I make my reluctant escape
So easily done with a back always towards me
Every step is agony until the pain becomes an addiction
The masochist in me does not want to break this habit
The warrior in me demands it
I'll always wish that you were here
My future stretched before me
Your shadow looming over it
Your ghost standing next to me
My perennial garden is peaceful and tranquil
A timeless place of beauty where calmness will instill
Vibrant blooms emanate sweet and savory scents
No fake or synthetic wafts among the floral presents
Birds flutter and dip in the rustic metal bird baths
While chipmunks nibble and play along their tiny paths
Swirling garden spinners whisper in the light breeze
An illusion of flying spindles, adds a whimsical tease
The solar fountain is a balance of sounds and silence
As water trickles and flows and provides some reliance
Bees and dragonflies hover and then stop to take a drink
As butterflies flutter in vibrant wings of purple and pink
Asiatic lilies open their bright orange petals of luck
Their beauty instills feelings of awe and wonder struck
Hummingbirds often visit the garden to stop and sip
Delicately feeding on phlox while wings flutter and zip
My perennial garden is a sacred and treasured place
Where nature is welcomed to visit and take up space
Gentle on My Mind
You play along the edges,
of every memory worth having.
You have been there since,
I care to look back.
I was stupid,
fearful,
distrustful,
and dangerous.
You… ever were patient,
kind, and slow to anger,
walking a measured gait.
Cowboy,
You speak in a voice,
that melts my heart.
but your real words,
more often are unvoiced,
but always felt,
tangibly… changing
the fixed temperament
left behind,
in the wake of users,
defilers of dreams.
You make me look up at the stars.
You make me find new paths…
You are a cold drink,
to my parched journey.
Now I no longer…
walk alone.
On my walk this morning, as usual, I stepped out of my world…
With the full moon lighting my way and cooled by a morning breeze
I stepped into the world of nature…of flowers, animals and trees.
I stepped into the world where rabbits live…and when I visit their world for a while
I have to admit…just like my family and friends…rabbits make me smile.
Sometimes we play this game…to this day it still give me a thrill…
When a rabbit sees me coming…he stops…he stands completely still.
She’ll freeze…just like a statue…not moving a muscle or a hair…
Thinking I won’t be able to see her…but, of course, I know she’s there.
Most days I just play along…I don’t want him to know…
So I’ll look around…I’ll act surprised and ask, “Where did that rabbit go?”
Then I’ll walk on…ignoring her…because this is the game we play…
I’m delighted to let her think she’s fooled me…as she happily hops away.
Rabbits who have played this game with me before…who have come to know my smile…
understand they’re safe…and will hop beside me for a while.
I don’t know much about rabbit world…my knowledge of them is weak
I know they hop, they love to eat grass…and they like a good game of hide and seek.
I imagine rabbits don’t know much about my world either
perhaps they’ve never been schooled….
They know I walk on two legs, smile a lot…and that I am quite easily fooled.
We both know we need to treat each other with kindness and respect…
when our worlds meet…wherever we may go…
Perhaps… when it comes to rabbits and humans…that’s all we need to know
Is it me? Is it real?
The feelings that I feel…
never seem to match
the world around me.
What if I’m lost in time,
wrapped up in some sublime
cosmic poet’s next attempt
at melancholy?
I don’t ever feel at home,
most times would rather be alone.
I’m broken, yeah I know
cuz I don’t change things.
Maybe I’m just out of place,
running long in the wrong race,
or maybe I’m no good
at understanding.
But what if the way I feel
though I’m told, “it isn’t real”,
is tied to something more
than what we see?
What if the lives we live
and the efforts that we give
are based upon a script
that’s cockamamie?
Then who’s right and who is wrong?
Guess I’ll simply play along
and do the best I can
with how I feel.
And I guess we’ll wait and see
how this all turns out to be,
when we finally learn…
just what is real.
At any rate, she knew she wasn’t alone
With both the baritone and guy with the trombone
‘Twas hard to tell wearing the blindfold
Which was holding onto the bricks of gold
She decided to have fun and play along
Drew the line at joining their silly drinking song
She found herself lounging on a bearskin
And in a crinoline feeling quite feminine
So far the sideline was odd yet somewhat divine
When she recalled needing to catch a flight by nine
No time for shopping in spite of having gold to blow
At any rate, she had a plane to catch and had to go

I will run with you wherever you will go.
I can take you to the edge of the mountains and
splash into mystic waters filled with pebbles.
There we will find your infinite peace.
I will run with you wherever you will go.
I can take you to the top of sleepless hills and
gaze Van Gogh’s midnight stars.
There we will find your long-lost love.
I will run with you wherever you will go.
I can take you to the Evergreen and
play along with the timeless green-painted trees.
There we will find your true happiness.
I will run with you wherever you will go.
I can take you to the darkest wonders and
give light to God’s secret creation.
There we will find your only hope.
Your World
Your world is a place that is small
With bars to contain your rage
With distance between us I look upon you
As you wither confined in your cage.
Your world is a place that is dangerous
You must always be on guard to fight
The hater and critic of the daytime hour
Become the killers of your dreams at night.
Your world is a place of many battles
You must find the strength to win
If you become strong and just play along
They won’t see your suffering or sin.
Your world is a place of confusion
You must sort it out and get clear
With a lifetime amassed of regret for the past
Your head drowning amidst all your tears
Your world is a place of illusions
That everyone else has enough
But the love that you lack has been holding you back
You pretend you don’t need it, you’re tough
Your world is a place of choices
Where you can choose to face your fear
And walk with head high with no need to lie
Not afraid to show others you care.
Your world is a place of karma
That is filled with an abundance of wealth
With nothing to prove, you walk in your own shoes
As you learn to reinvent yourself.
Your world is a place of miracles
But you must have the eyes to see
That when you let others in, your new world will begin
Through their love you will learn how to be.
Your world is a place of your making
If you trust, you will never again fall
And without any doubt, live from the inside out
And never again will your world be so small.
The gentle music flows
from every drop of rain,
as it just lightly taps
against my window pane.
The wind begins to whistle
it's own melodious song,
while the wind-chimes
dance and play along.
The soothing sounds cast open
the windows and doors.
I close my eyes and breathe.
The energy surrounds me as my spirit soars.
I hold out my hand and feel the raindrops
as if they were at play.
My breath now quickened with emotion.
I taste the rain on my lips as I embrace the glorious day.
The curtains blow inward
the breeze itself is warm,
my mind is so peaceful
in the calm before the storm.
The sky's voice trembles
from above a darkening cloud,
as the rolling thunder
speaks it's thoughts aloud.
The thunder awakens
the flash of light.
The part of nature
that sends some to flight.
I chose to embrace the power of nature
in the earth and sky.
And bask in the wonder
that fills my eyes.
The rain seems to be letting up
as it puddles on the green grass,
and the once powerful winds
are now calming down at last.
The gray clouds are parting
and a bright rainbow forms,
proving that something beautiful
can come from such dangerous storms.
My eyes close and I breathe
in the scent of the cleansing rain.
The brilliant hues of the rainbow
dance in my mind where I feel no pain.
The sun peaks from behind the clouds
just to say hi.
I feel the warmth against my face
as I view the beauty with a sigh.

I expect to get mistreated if I try,
But I already know it will only be for a short time,
All this time with me you waged war,
Neverending...back and forth,
If I didn't agree with you, or play along,
Your hurtful words, and comebacks strong,
In a drunken stupor the truth comes out,
All of your fears, all of your doubts,
If you don't want the truth, please don't ask,
Because sober you hide behind the mask,
I shake my head in silence when I hear your lies,
It breaks my heart everytime,
Because you live and breathe for a glorified image,
What's it going to take for you to stop this,
I'm your muse and the butt of your jokes,
But one day you'll look back and realize I loved you the most,
And I'll take your ridicule like a champ,
And at the end of your act I'll still be your friend,
Your not winning when you make me cry,
Because I'm still living for the love inside,
I don't need an image to stand,
The love I have is my right hand man.
