In streets of solitude...
A societal ghost ambles through
A bustling concrete jungle unnoticed.
A lost soul with sartorial handicap,
Carrying life inside his overstuffed backpack.
His face is weather-beaten;
Reflecting wasted years,
Loneliness and pain.
His hungry, pleading eyes
Dart from one passerby to the next.
No one cares enough to approach,
To find out his name. It's Jack.
A few stop by to toss pennies
Into his Styrofoam cup.
No one sticks around to talk to him.
His stomach often grumbles
With hunger;
The world blind to his plight.
He wants more than a friendly wave
At those waiting out a stop light
Half of those don't even look in Jack's direction
Because of pride, he doesn't
Knock at car windows and ask...
"Can you kindly spare a dollar?"
A forgotten citizen left to fend for himself.
He might as well be locked away
In prison; out of sight, out of mind.
Who searches, cries, and prays for this lost soul?
America unwilling
To bring this outsider in from the cold.
She looks past him like cellophane.
Campaigning politicians release
A laundry list of plans that don't include
Helping him to rise above his dismal circumstances.
None of their promises include
Sheltering this poor folk roaming about
Like a stray dog, living under a bridge
And sleeping in a makeshift tent.
Sadly, it will always be this way
In streets of solitude.

Invaded?? i went past and saw the police van this morning. I was a bit worried that something might have happened.
why are you so serious? I don't know if I can change the way I talk with friends. Sorry.
It is too big a change.
nobody complains but you
words exist in context, and the context is I don't have any intention to hurt you
i was working on my video and censored the F word. I think you should be proud of me. Hah.
Yes, BB, I remember you did say you considered me as your friend.
This was another confirmation but very subtle.
I was too harsh on you because I wanted you to be a perfect gentleman.
I supposed, nobody is perfect.
Near enoght is good enough.
I should not mind little thing like that.
It was too late now,
We aparted for more than 7 months.
It seemed like it was only yesterday.
I am sure, you have long forgotten me.
I am sure, I will soon forget you too.
Not because I want to
But it was "Out of sight, out of mind"
My smart iPhone drowned, what a dread!
No purpose to get out of bed.
Can’t do without fidgets
With smarty pants digits
When my social life just dropped dead!
My buddy, from a dire grave fate,
I hastened to resuscitate.
My beloved device
I interred deep in rice -
Saved us both from desperate state!
It seems one trite banality
Of minor technicality.
The truth and the matter,
We’re addicted to latter -
Sweet virtual reality!
Though on technology we thrive,
For more exciting toys we strive,
Let’s put smart phones aside,
Out of sight, out of mind -
Let’s smarten up and live alive!
My smart iPhone drowned, what a thrill!
Hands free I go outside and chill.
My deflective device -
Silent, deep dug in rice.
I have been mastering live skill!

Things Have Legs
Sometimes, I swear, things grow legs
Car keys, scissors, recipes set in place
But when I look they move away
To floors and underneath the newspapers.
I almost hear them laugh, or sneer,
“Catch me if you can.” “Look, over here!”
Out of sight, out of mind playing hide and seek,
Warmer – warmer now they move again.
They love to play this mischief game,
When time is of the essence,
As minutes tick away and deadlines loom
While panic dances through our brains.
Where do all the lost things go,
Those hiding places we promise to remember,
Where even burglars would not look,
Safely tucked away for posterity.
Then suddenly to our surprise,
They reappear right before our eyes,
So pleased they try to drive us crazy
But then I know I am not crazy!

Warmer – warmer they move again - with a leer.
They love to play this mischief game,

Panic in our brains - a presence.
Where do all the lost things go,
Those hiding places we forget,
Where even burglars would not look,
As we send out a wide dragnet.
Then suddenly to our surprise,
They reappear before our eyes,
Laughing at our confusion-delusion
So pleased they try to drive us crazy.

Out of sight, Out of mind
that's putting it kind
never told never asked
always the one getting bypassed
Parties. events, holidays too
not even invited to the family barbecue
One the process then the black sheep
after that I was treated like a creep
Hello, I am the forgotten child
You know, the one you exiled
never being understood
from childhood to adulthood
never acknowledged never seen
then blamed for everything in between
important events just overlooked
my calendars empty, trust me I looked
Don't know the place
don't know the time
reminding me not whine
families become strangers
when the bonds are endangered
Anything in common how would I know
I only get th memos
being invisible isn't as fun as it seems
super hero powers aren't everyones dreams
I don't know you at all you know me even less
gosh, do you even know my address
why do I try
it just makes me want to cry
isolated even more
as soon as I walk in the door
Sunday phone calls are few nd far between
who knew we gave up that routine
nothing to report nothing to say
family bonds continue to fray
no fighting was hard no arguments made
I should be the one feeling betrayed
I wonder if you feel the same
you all stay. silent nothing to proclaim
Draining my spirit crushing my soul
its nothing I can control
until you acknowledge your part
healing can't start
His sins, many thousands of them,
Lie buried in the anonymous soil.
Over his mantelpiece a proverb hangs:
"Aus den Augen, aus dem Sinn."
On his shelf "Mein Kampf" is visible.
"It must never happen again,"
he is quick to reassure the fainthearted.
All else is new:
His car, his house, his political complexion,
His hairstyle, his face, everything.
Everything? No, not quite everything.
If you want a new car, you can buy one.
If you want a new house, you may get the money.
If you want a new political complexion,
You can always change your daily newspaper.
If you want a new hairstyle,
You can always pay a little extra.
If you want a new a new face, it can be arranged
(or rearranged).
And the heart, the old hard heart?
Ask for a transplant.
You can always ask, but
Not for love or money
Can you change the past.
Aus den Augen, aus dem Sinn Out of sight, out of mind
Stopping on the clifftop
staring out to sea
waiting for the clipper ship
will bring him home to me
looking on in longing
as the sun burns my eyes
listening to the breakers below
and above the seagull cries
waiting is the hardest part
my heart is empty when he's gone
and all the while knowing
it's here where we belong
I'm here he's there
but it doesn't have to be
sometimes something comes between
is often how it goes but out of sight out of mind
for me is really seldom seen
standing on the headland
gazing out to sea
searching for the sailing ship
will bring him back to me
and here or there
in the darkest night
the lighthouse shining bright
shows the safest way
but who's to know which way to go
in the blinding light of day
While Still Have A Choice
You thought you had time
To call them again
Faithful close classmate
Long time ago friend.
Then you get a call
From out of the past
Too late to visit
Their tombstone’s been cast.
Guilt over the should’ve
You should have found time
Before you knew it,
Out of sight, out of mind.
Well not really true
You’d call now and then
Hearing about death
Can’t remember when.
Sad you can’t recall
Last time heard their voice
how much they loved you
Made your heart rejoice.
Regret’s good teacher
Listen to its voice.
Today! Call that someone
While still have a choice.

Mum said "birds of a feather flock together"
so I searched for a man who liked similar weather
until Dad stressed "opposites attract"
and I tried to determine just what I lacked
"Small packages", Mum said, "held the best things"
so I looked for a humble guy with diamond rings
until Dad said I should find a real go-getter
because it's a fact "the bigger the better"
When I fancied a guy from amongst the herds
Mum said "action speaks louder than words"
but Dad said this advice should be ignored
because "the pen is mightier than the sword"
Mum believed men should be kept closely entwined
because of the saying "out of sight out of mind"
Dad urged I give them space and make them ponder
because "absence makes the heart grow fonder"
I worried how I'd react to being charmed
Mum emphasized "forewarned is forearmed"
The male perspective gave my ego a hit –
Dad said "cross that bridge if you come to it"
When I found love the saying Mum liked to push
was "one in the hand's worth two in the bush"
Dad said "there's always time to be the faithful wife"
and persuaded me "variety was the spice of life"
I struggled at courting and was getting old
but "you're never too old to learn" I was told
However my confidence was hit for a six
when Dad said "you can't teach an old dog new tricks"
"If first you don't succeed try, try again"
this was Mum's attitude toward courting men
Dad's radically differed of course –
he told me not to "flog a dead horse"
My parent's advice couldn't have been sounder
for I found a genuine all rounder
but I hope he can live with the reality
I now have a split personality.
