If I made you feel sad or mad yesterday,
I apologize for making you feel that way.

Because that was not my intention at all,
We both made mistakes, our downfall.

But today, I'm a little older and wiser,
I would embrace being a compromiser.

I know the harm cruel words can cause;
sometimes, we need to regroup and pause.

I aim to build you up, not tear you down,
Make you smile; take away that big frown.

With that being said, I may fall short
because I'm not perfect; I have a wart.

Whatever the case, know I adore you,
I have your best interest at heart too;

When you are down and feeling blue,
I will always root for you in all you do.

I Made It To the Other Side

I made it to the other side
By Michelle Morris
26/11/2022

When I'm gone
I wonder if you'll notice
You're so wrapped up in yourself
I barely stood a chance

Narcissism and relationships
Not a good combination
I should've known better
Than to take a risk on you

Now that I'm away from you
The air is so much cleaner
The world is full of brighter colours
And I am filled with hope

I can't believe I took so long
To escape your vice like grip
I guess your isolating tricks
Became too obvious to me

Older and wiser
I certainly paid the price
Knowing my self-care
Is not worth all your cries

I don't know what I saw in you
But you were pretty persistent
Like a predator hunting game
You made me weak and breathless

Will you look back on us
As a tyranny type experiment?
Or are you so deeply damaged
That you can't see your errors?

I am free and I am alive
I made it to the other side
You'll become a distant nightmare
As I feel my joy and thrive

Premium Member The Love That Got Away - For a While

At fifteen I was filled with passionate dreams
God breathed possibilities through my ambitions
I learned to feel with my heart, visions of a caress
Whispering through me when I first met him, my fantasy

At twenty-three I was older and wiser, longing for a touch
Imagining he was with me, embracing my heart’s hopes
Touching me with reassurance, acceptance and compassion
Everything that would awaken in me a feeling of pure intimacy

At thirty-five I found myself dreaming of his generous spirit
Wondering across familiar reveries with a sense of urgency
Yearning for his hands stirring, awakening pleading from within
The mystery of his vigorous skills for pleasuring me warmed me

At forty-two I shared moments with him, nestled within his embrace
Reflecting on all the love we had seen arise between our secret expressions
Slowly, we discovered the opportunity to spread inspiration in our path
Amid the ones who saw our hearts and all that graced our circumstance

At fifty-five I came to him once again, after spending those years apart
We found a tenderness that could not be found in anyone else on earth
Together, we spend time learning and growing wiser with a sweet embrace
Knowing that love this strong and good comes around only once in this place

At times I worry about losing him again – amid the struggles to keep up
But there is a faith inside of me today that reminds me he has given me his love
Honesty, his passion, his tender caress – all that was lacking in my hopes
He is the one I long to share my life with and know will be in my heavenly home

God knows my heart and how I searched for him when I wasn’t in his grasp
God knows my spirit and how it reached out for this peace that I feel with him
God knows my hopes and dreams and how deeply I feel for this man that was
The one who got away and the one who returned on that joyful, inspiring day

Bitten By Your Love

You have your demons and so do I
You may be able to but from them I can't any longer hide
All what I feel inside
The passion, pain, intensity, and emotions will not subside
Going through this everyday mundane
It's enough to drive even the most rational person insane
Why is it that you keep holding on tightly too
Every woman that always seems to end up hurting you
Yet here I am standing here with my heart and soul for you bleeding
And there you go again you keep on from me fleeing
Is it easier to be hurt then to love someone like me
Is it easier for you to turn away and close your eyes then it is to keep them open and clearly
see
I'm the one right in front of you and never again will I just turn and leave
There is a solid and concrete reason as to which you and I always seem to come back to
each other again
Only this time we each have known how we have grown, are older and wiser and just where
we have been
Just stop and let me back in let me try to once more explain
Unlike all the others I never gave you my heart and my soul in vain
You have always kept them safe and held on tightly to that key for all these years
You never could let go of me either and I never wanted to get them back no matter if there
were many tears
Quit running away from me and take the time in me to embrace
You could once again give to me your leather and I can give you my lace
I can't help myself from being in this state
But yet you know damn well in line for you is where I will continue to wait
No matter just how long it takes
Or how my heart and soul forsakes
You are my heaven on earth sent to me from up above
And there's no turning back or walking away anymore when not since I've realized I've been
bitten by your love

Premium Member His Background

This enlisted soul
At eighteen years old
Barely a man
Not even street wise told

From the proms, to the camp
He kits out tomorrow
His future he stamps
Never knowing bloodied sorrow

In just under a year
He's older and wiser
To a theatre so different
Says his military adviser

Overseas he heads
Thoughts of back home
What goes through his mind
In eighteen years old roam

Where could he have been
In so short a time
Colouring books
Making joining words rhyme

As he looks to his background
What does he see
An eagle soaring
In the land of the free

The statue of liberty
And the bill of rights
With the thirteen stripes
And the stars to delight

He is just a boy
In grown up clothes
Another one lost
To a cause we will loathe

Premium Member Intangible

There was change, an odd pulse,
a new cadence and tone, in the place I grew up
where my mother had been...
Where white fences stretched out to cradle our home
but where zones, unfamiliar, were on now on the cusp

On a make-shift bed, I was lying awake
Windows cracked open,
a wind coming in, ....
Intangible nights, in the familiar old room,
alone with my thoughts, while sorting out things...

There was a strange, jaundice glow, from the porch light, left on,
and my pillow felt cold, where the moon used to go

The sound of a moth, batting wings against glass,
was begging for warmth, while seeking to ask, a place that made sense
And a place to fit in

My father was sleeping, with his newlywed bride
in the same maple bed, where my mother had died
And a new child was dreaming in the soft yellow room
where I spent all those nights, ... just me and the moon

I was happy for him, and for the child that he gained.
I was there at his side,
when the changes became.. a part of his life, ...... a part of mine too
but was lost in the amber, like a moth batting wings

Eventually, I would grow with a fresh point of view,
but the child that I was, still waits for the moon

I'm older and wiser, maybe stronger than then
but, the moth will look in, escaping the moon
ramming the screen
 seeking the flame...
    batting its wings,
while resisting the change, ...again, and again

He Is Part Ii

HE IS PART II

He is:
    My second born son,
    And is second to none.

He is:
    Much older and wiser
Sometimes can act like a Meiser.

He has:
Gone on to learn a trade
    Yet, was still much dismayed.

He is:
    No longer quite so sullen
And he hangs with his cousin.

He is:
Still searching for a purpose in life,
And has managed to find a wife.

He is:
Gifted with words and art beyond measure
Yet, he does not realize that he is a treasure.

He has:
Made his family, especially his mama, so proud,
Hopefully, he sees that he is not one to be in a crowd.

He is:
Aware that life will not always be serene,
For he is now a United States Marine.

Premium Member I Never Dreamed

When I was young and innocent…while life was still brand knew
as it is with children….my dreams were young and innocent too…

They were straightforward, unsophisticated and simple
They were childlike and free…
And they were a little egotistical because…they all revolved around me.

When I was given to dreaming…the things I wanted…
the who I would become…
I never asked myself the question: Where do dreams come from?

You see I dreamt from a comfortable bed…
in a cozy house…with a happy family.
I never dreamed there could be people who dreamed from a different place than me.

I dreamed of getting ice cream when the ice cream truck came down my street…
I never dreamed there were other children who had no food to eat.

I dreamed of getting new clothes…the latest fashions anywhere.
I never dreamed there were other children who had no clothes to wear.

I dreamed of a bigger house. I thought ours was much too small.
I never dreamed there were other children who had no house at all.

My dreams were filled with joy and laughter…and moments in the sun.
I never dreamed, the dreams I dreamed…weren’t dreamt by everyone!

My dreams have changed over the years…that should come as no surprise…
for as we grow a little older and wiser…we see the world through different eyes.

Now…I dream of a world at peace…where love and kindness shine…
Where every child born today…can have dreams similar to mine.

On a Sweet Sunday Morning

on a sweet sunday morning when we both are off from work
we rise from our needed slumber to indulge in a big ole perk

we inhale, we exhale, and we thank God for this here Blessing
we stretch, we yawn, and we free ourselves from the usual stressing

we then immerse ourselves in our rituals and our routines
we smile at the scene of a sunny day and erase from our minds all blue things

now that we are older and wiser, we jump at chances like rabbits
we appreciate the little things in life more and put to rest our big picture habits

anticipation faces make for positive vibes and good times
which, in return, inspires a spotlight list of memories and a few poetic rhymes

Premium Member An Obedient Child

I salute you oh mighty time:

My best friend,

My worst foe

For

To live without you is simply

Impossible!

Throughout my existence

I have, unsuccessfully, struggled to accept

Whatever you brought to me,

Either it was a sweet smile

Or a bitter tear with

Equanimity

Since

I could not enjoy the one

Without

Suffering the presence of

The other

For

This, you told me, is the order of things,

This is what the heavens

Decree,

But

I, a fool ignorant, resisted!

Now, however,

Older and wiser, an obedient child of yours, oh time,

Have I finally become

So as

To abide by your universal rules

Of growth and decay

Without

Any complaints!
