Ennui conspires insipid moods
infringing human awareness,
ruled by a lunatic vision,
not controlled by insight and lucidity;
and desires of a Dolce Vita
mollify a false illusion
to appear on an intaglio, to gradually
become a shining insignia.
To steer a ship, takes effort and patience,
and if its course is guided by favorable winds,
all is well for the adventurous captain;
and should he lose focus, lured by lunacy and nihilism,
his enthusiasm wears out and failure sets in...
and his ship will lurch on unfriendly waves,
and his ennui lessens courage to deviate
from the safe route when nocturnal vision is lost indeed.
Ennui insinuates myopia,
muzzling the voice and halting
the mind's performance,
thus forging the promise of utopia;
and the hunch is to pursue intuition
whenever it may lead...being
the holster controlling the steed,
getting rid of the humdrum and huff,
humming and ignoring the hourglass,
which trickles sand to infuse fear.
Spontaneity leaves behind the ego,
effectively being a state of no mind,
wherein with no urge to either come or go,
cravings related to form are left behind.
Awareness self-aware, in staid stillness slow,
thus escapes clutches of narrow fears that bind.
Zen is not negation but celebration,
invoking God’s grace for our life’s duration.
The concept of emptiness in any ism,
is oft mistaken as a passive approach,
we deem nihilistic as an aphorism
but in truth this practice is above reproach.
Once empty, God’s light ignites our body prism
leaving within no room for thoughts to encroach.
Our doubts recede, when we become the answer,
frolicking with joy, like a cosmic dancer.
Venomous poison ran through my veins
exuding an emotionless nihilism
that led to everyday iniquitous quarrels
that left us devoid of truth and peace.
Why did I lose myself in such self-pity?
Can I blame you for your obscene replies?
Had love taken an undeserved holiday?
Confusion and irrational thoughts reigned.
Oh, foolish humans that we were to lose
so easily our much-esteemed dignity.
We lost the "we" and ego ruled the roost.
So we run roughshod over each other,
never considering those brakes we could have used.
But a brake did come. She stopped in mid-sentence.
I was astounded as she sat down bewildered
not pronouncing one word. Trembling I held her hand.
Was it my fault she was struck so? Perhaps,
but from then on I became her nurse.
Gone forever were the malevolent intentions
that dominated my nefarious and despicable dealings.
I had now one aim in life, to bring her back to normal.
Too late I realized how much I really loved her.
Gone was my dignity, my hatred, my retaliations.
My soul grew into a humane and caring nurse,
the old pains gone and I find it exhilarating to see
her progressing towards a semblance of normality.

In shadow's tomb—
A dim, aimless flicker...
Void's grip, timeless
claims all.
Fantomsound: life's song is just a cognition in the null.
Rain, pain—
Stardust, dust, flesh
patternless on oblivions loom.
Decay's dance a molderwaltz,
Fingers grasp at phantoms
no hope
Peace in the abyss's open arms. Not…
Unveiled—darkness, despair's shroud
enigma's veil.
Hearts, no soul, toll; unpaid.
Dreams surrendered.
Woe's tale on wastesphere's icy breath.
Void's sigh,
Sun bleeds on the endless fight.
Souls adrift, yearning
churning, burning
Accept, the void's silent
starlit song mute.
From nothing, is nothing, in nothing /
to nothing, for nothing
Fade to black...
To an unmet friend:
You see the mortal world
and for you man is machine,
little more than a device
for the vagaries of evolution.
Faith is illusion, hope lacks
weight-- and love? Can love
be other than mere sex,
nature's sole mandate?
And your science now tells
you: what can I ever know?
All is quantum topsy-turvy,
mother nature being part
whore, part illusionist....
Your thinking breaks all
down to little pieces,
and nothing matters
as matter is all while
science the only god
left for us to worship.
And we are nothing,
not even dreams
anymore, just bits
and pieces to be
examined, classified,
and then ignored--
for science is all,
and faith but a
refuge for fools.
You are honest,
I know-- you see
yourself as just
another machine,
destined for decay.
then destruction--
your sentience but
a cruel joke told
yet again-- and
no one laughs.
You and I,
we breathe,
we think,
we live, but
you would stop
at death while
I begin there....
I sing to the Eternal:
quell not my songs
as they rise above
the sad despair born
of your vacant world
and follow myriad stars
streaming their wondrous
light in the vast dead-cold
Universe....
I sing to Eternity,
I sing to my Soul.
[poet's note: Under my pen name, Nolo Segundo, I used this as both the title and the opening poem in my first book, 'The Enormity of Existence' because I think of this poem as coming out of something I experienced in 1971 as a 24 year old when I almost drowned in the Winooski River in Vermont. I was like that 'unmet friend' before I went into that river: certain of my nihilism, believing only matter was real--no God, no soul, no meaning to life. For 1/2 a century I've had more questions than answers, but I do know that what we perceive as 'reality'--with our limited senses and limited intellects-- is not 'Reality'....]
I feel, that sometimes, existence is an ocean.
Filled to the brim; overflowing; breaking with waves;
At other times everything seems like a motion,
Moving, like a death procession, towards the graves...
Silence and emptiness often pervade and fill
The cores of the deepest corridors and nooks
When noises decrease and calmness, like winter's chill,
Adorn the depths of my heart, altering my looks...
Space, like a vacuum, is formed for peace to stay.
I touch, feel, and find people and things as they are.
There is nothing to cling on. Things are new each day.
As the flux of water in a stream, I flow far.
Often, like stock-taking, my being is emptied.
Worn-out things are replaced with commodities new.
The light wavering within, with new wicks, steadied.
I see persons and events in a sanguine view...
Zen Nihilism
Zen is a school of Buddhism .
Cessation of sufferings is taught by Buddhism.
Nihilism believes no realism.
At least Buddhism follows some enthusiasm.
Nihilism is based on nothingness.
Buddhism tries to show path of happiness
through wisdom transcending Nirvana, nevertheless.
Both agree concept of existence of God as baseless.
Phenomenon of Nihilism : Secular and atheistic
So Buddhism is considered passively nihilistic.
Nihilists. say, 'Nothing to be considered realistic.
Buddhists say, 'Right and Wrong are two characteristics .
Love, wisdom and purity are concept of Buddhist.
Nihilists don’t believe in moral code on continuity.
Nihilists obey only nothingness as extreme entity.
Buddhists choose midway approach eternity.
Through rose colored glasses we see a universe full of opportunity, desire, obstacles, triumphs.
The journey of love offers optimism for most.
But a broken heart demeans the soul, all the while nihilism sinks in.
The sinking boat hits rock bottom, again.
It’s a problem; this plight for life.
With the ups and downs, big smiles and frowns.
I’ve turned into a skeptic wondering why the universe is full of meek individuals, and some so abrasive?
Opposites struggling to survive in a world that links together pleasure and sin.
Where do our values sink in?
Why were they lost?
Did you not understand the cost?
With dating sites, hook-ups, and casual flings.
The divorce rate in America is on an upswing.
Are you an optimistic realist
or a realistic optimist?
Are you a fatalistic humanist
or a humanistic fatalist?
Staunchly capitalistic rules out socialistic
but can't socialistic flirt a bit with capitalistic?
Artistic may be wildly narcissistic
yet is narcissistic necessarily artistic?
If nihilism goes ballistic
Are ballistics then nihilistic?
Calvinistic is never hedonistic
but might hedonistic become Calvinistic?
The theistic frown on the atheistic
yet the atheistic themselves were once theistic
The egoistic are not likely to be altruistic
but the altruistic may well be egoistic
Linguistics is so much more than dry statistics
yet statistics make or break theories of linguistics
The opportunistics are not naturally idealistic
but the idealistic must often be opportunistic
Can something simplistic be pluralistic
or something pluralistic be simplistic?
To be perfectly objectivistic
~ I am frankly rather pessimistic
Manipulation remains a popular tool today.
Misinformation seeps into susceptible sway.
Hated concepts and causes gain followers.
Fearful and bewildered as to those wallowers.
An extremely direct approach to criticism.
Implies visible disrobing flaws in cynicism.
This is still widely practiced in the community.
As sipping a cup of coffee to regain one's dignity.
Lula's political career and prestige were in disarray.
Brazil's leader climbed from obscurity to power play.
The man eventually found himself behind bars of steel.
But he won the election again by a narrow margin reveal.
Janja stood by him as he issued his approval speech.
She was a sobbing mess through his goal to reach.
Extremely moved, and she wasn't the only one.
Lula is unlikely to spearhead a radical leftist goal run.
Lula, a leftist kleptocrat, has no place in elections or plies.
Is there any hope for his position in the US and its allies?
Was upset by what he said about NATO's role in Ukraine.
That's not even mentioning his undying love for Beijing.
The American right has to halt electoral denialism.
It's poisoning democratic and conservative nihilism.
And Bolsonaro is scarcely the last man standing.
Even when he's just as awful as the option landing.
