A Constance contest 20 June 2023

________________________________________________________________

Venomous poison ran through my veins exuding an emotionless nihilism that led to everyday iniquitous quarrels that left us devoid of truth and peace. Why did I lose myself in such self-pity? Can I blame you for your obscene replies? Had love taken an undeserved holiday? Confusion and irrational thoughts reigned. Oh, foolish humans that we were to lose so easily our much-esteemed dignity. We lost the "we" and ego ruled the roost. So we run roughshod over each other, never considering those brakes we could have used. But a brake did come. She stopped in mid-sentence. I was astounded as she sat down bewildered not pronouncing one word. Trembling I held her hand. Was it my fault she was struck so? Perhaps, but from then on I became her nurse. Gone forever were the malevolent intentions that dominated my nefarious and despicable dealings. I had now one aim in life, to bring her back to normal. Too late I realized how much I really loved her. Gone was my dignity, my hatred, my retaliations. My soul grew into a humane and caring nurse, the old pains gone and I find it exhilarating to see her progressing towards a semblance of normality. Placed 2

He (our father) was not allowed to be moved into an ambulance which jolted over any bump and after an operation the previous day. Furthermor my husband had been appointed asGuardian/administrator of of Dad. We find it almost impossible to forgive them. Our dad tragically died without anyone who loved him beside him. We think he died that night but the two relations INSIST THAT IT WAS IN THE MORNING SHORTLY BEFORE THEY CALLED TO TELL US THE SAD NEWS. He was our FATHER Blessings JENNIFER.

Sorry for my late reply but I have too many medical issues at the moment. I can relate to your story. My wife had dementia and heart problems. I shall never forget seven years ago she came to the door of the toilet, her panties down and clearly in pain. I knew what was going to happen. My doctor could not come. I asked for an ambulance and was told she had a heart block. I knew certainly she would die. They whisked her off to the hospital, no place for me. I phoned my daughter but there was a lot of traffic. Finally, we arrived at the Emergency and three doctors hummed and hawed that I got fed up with them. The three witches of Macbeth. Finally, they admitted my wife was dead. Afterwards, I saw her in a coffin. I never wept, but I still grieve for her. She was an angel. Thank you for your email. Regards Victor

forgiveness means leaving your ego behind to a relation which one can do but to a relations who took an old 93 year man who had an operation the previous day and was half comatose and kidnapped him by telling the NURSE IN CHARGE OF ICU THAT WE WERE all related but without telling us they took him into a posh after care facility which we later found out was run not by a nurse but by care givers and a mature woman who had no medical qualification AND CAREGIVERS WHO ONLY HAD A 3 MONTH CERTIFICATE

Emotions are a hard thing to overcome...in the end, she loved you more than you know. By no means was it your fault, my friend. Good Luck in the contest. Excellent write!

This is a poem which has deep pychological implications. It is perhaps one of your best, I feel! When unexpected reactions come from a loved one it can land the other in a trauma. It is exactly what happened to her. She must have loved you so much. But when you realized that your anger left her shattered, your attitude changed and your sole focus turned into bringing her back to life !

Oh Victor, you should not feel bad, it wasn't your fault, life sometimes gives us awful twists and unexpected illnesses, I am sure she knew you loved her. The time you spend nursing her was proof enough that you cared, remember the good times and know she has forgiven you a million times over,:)

To let loose your emotions and ask forgiveness it’s a hard task ; you have to know you’ve caused those sins before you ask . Fantastic verse

- When bad words are shared ... it is difficult to confess one's own mistakes ... forgiveness can be difficult for some ... it takes time to build new trust in a relationship, Victor - A deeply heartbreaking poem - Good luck in the contest :) - hugs

The last line says it all. Nefarious acts to a person can cause irreversible harm but sometimes there is a cure by forgiveness and love. Thanks for sharing these lines with us today and for dropping by my page. I am glad you are well enough to be back online and so sorry you were so ill. Sara

Oh, Victor, what an exquisite poem you have crafted. Your mastery of language and vivid imagery truly make it a standout among your works. The malevolent intentions that once consumed the wicked and detestable actions have vanished into oblivion, as forgiveness emerges as the ultimate balm for redemption.
