I wrote this Poem with a minimalistic view of Nihilism. How appropriate. First and foremost, I am not a Nihilist and do believe in God. However, I have always had a passion for Philosophy and why people believe what they believe.

So what is it? Nihilism, as explored in this poem, is a philosophical stance that challenges traditional notions of meaning and value in life. It reflects a profound skepticism toward established belief systems and questions the existence of objective truth, morality, and purpose. Nihilism acknowledges existence's inherent emptiness and transience, prompting individuals to grapple with the existential void and seek their own paths to meaning and fulfillment amidst a seemingly indifferent universe. Philosophers who either believe or touch upon Nihilism: Camus, Heidegger, Nietzche, Dostevesky, and Sartre.

My Wife always tells me that I give her a headache when I talk philosophy. I hope you enjoy.

In shadow's tomb— A dim, aimless flicker... Void's grip, timeless, claims all. Fantomsound: life's song, a cognition in the null. Rain, pain— Stardust, dust, flesh, patternless on oblivions loom. Decay's dance a molderwaltz, Fingers grasp at phantoms, no hope, Peace in the abyss's open arms. Not… Unveiled—darkness, despair's shroud, enigma's veil. Hearts, no soul, toll; unpaid. Dreams surrendered. Woe's tale on wastesphere's icy breath. Void's sigh, Sun bleeds on the endless fight. Souls adrift, yearning, churning, burning, Accept, the void's silent, starlit song mute. From nothing, is nothing, in nothing, to nothing, for nothing Fade to black...

I suppose basic nihilist might not paint the picture with any color. Hopefully, everyone who has life gets to understand the pleasure of helping others. Today, many do not. I did once believe that opulence would make me happy...it's a cultural belief in USA society. I now know that not to be true, and although I have no religious belief, I do think there are moral absolutes and a primary one involves overcoming selfishness and sharing this beautiful place and experience pleasantness.

How very SAD it it that some CHOOSE to view only the darkness in the world and life! You've done a good job capturing the nihilist mindset. I pray daily to the God nihilists don't believe in! Janice

Hi, Victor. Thank you for coming and reading this poem and being a brother in Christ. Philosophy has always been a passion of mine from my early days. My philosophy professor from Messiah College encouraged me to study the Bible and also know what others believe, such as philosophy so that I could have an answer. This is the verse he gave me. 1 Peter 3:15 - "But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect." I have become more assertive in my Apologetics over the years because of his influence on me. Blessings, my Dear Brother. - Daniel

As you already know, I'm centered in faith, grace, love - GOD. This is interesting even though I feel so sad for those who don't feel the wonder of God's presence, His light reflected inside those who know Him. God bless you with much love, friend, love, Gina

Hi Gina, Thank you for your note and for being a sister in Christ. Philosophy has helped me to get into good discussions with nonbelievers who want to destroy our beliefs. 1 Peter 3:15 - "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect." - Blessings, Daniel

Hi Daniel, Wow such a thought provoking poem here. It's been so many moons since I read No Exit by Sartre. I think it's good that you are the kind of human who is curious and explores other philosophies of thought. How else can we ever understand each other deeply?

Dear Ink Empress, Thank you for your thoughtful comments. Your kind words are always a source of encouragement and inspiration. Made my day! Yes, it helps me to write poetry with psychology and philosophical ideas in mind. I love that we share some of that together. I, too, have a master's degree in counseling, and that is my vocation. Whereas Philosophy is a lifelong pursuit. Your comment about the poem being slightly different from my usual style is intriguing. It’s always a challenge to experiment with new styles and themes, and I’m glad you found it profound and worth the accolades. I look forward to reading your poems and thoughts on our future pieces. Daniel this is a great poem revolving around the concept of nihilism, exploring the emptiness and transience of existence. It delves into the skepticism towards traditional notions of meaning and value in life, reflecting on the existential void and the search for personal fulfillment in an indifferent universe. Diction is dark and evocative, using words like "shadow's tomb," "void's grip," "decays dance," and "darkness, despair's shroud" to create a sense of hopelessness and desolation. a fave

Well, I do wonder sometimes what would happen in this world if everyone had no faith, no morals, and no care for others and I know in my heart what would happen because we see it on the news every day in small doses, but those doses have increased over the years which tells me what would happen as a whole if no one had any beliefs and morals. Thanks for sharing this one with us and for dropping by my page. Sara K

Dear Sara, Thank you my friend for your thoughtful reflections on my poem. Your contemplation about the consequences of a world devoid of faith, morals, and care for others strikes a chord of shared concern. Indeed, the increasing doses of negativity we witness in the news hint at the potential outcomes if such values were to erode entirely. I appreciate your openness to engaging with challenging themes and your willingness to think about the implications they hold for our collective well-being. It’s heartening to know that the poem prompted you to reflect on these important matters. - Blessings, my friend, - Daniel

Nihilism is an interesting subject to write about.. Personally i believe people should be able to believe whatever they wish, as long as they done force it on others.. I believe in God, but I dont preach to others.. my faith is private.. Without you mentioning the subject, I would say your poem serves as a poignant interpretation on the existential themes of mortality, meaninglessness, and the human struggle for transcendence amidst the cosmic abyss.

Dear Silent One, Thank you for sharing such insightful reflections on nihilism and the intricacies of personal belief. Your perspective on allowing individuals the freedom to hold their beliefs without imposing them on others is deeply admirable. Your acknowledgment of the existential themes in my poem is incredibly thoughtful. It’s heartening to know that its exploration of mortality, meaninglessness, and the quest for transcendence has found resonance with you. Your interpretation adds another layer of depth to the piece, and I’m grateful for your thoughtful engagement with it.
