Premium Member If I Have Time

If I have the time I’ll clean the kitchen
then tidy round the rest of the house,
I’m due to see the vet with my pet mouse ...
Ted’s lost his fur and he can’t stop itch’in!

My little pet mouse Ted I just adore
I’ve had him since I was a small child,
alas his itchy skin is driving him wild -
he’s shedding fur all over the floor!

I carry Ted in his cage when I visit the vet
and Ted plays happily on his small wheel,
Vet’s hand enters the cage - he emits a squeal
when he gets bitten by my traumatised pet!

I mop up his blood, then hold Ted in my hand
as the vet examines his scaly red skin,
He pokes and prods much to Ted’s chagrin -
if he can be cured it would be so grand!

Vet gives Ted a shot and applies some cream
then presents me with an enormous bill,
the medication works well, Ted’s no longer ill
and his fur’s grown back just like a dream!

My Most Loyal Pup

Bingo, my most loyal pup,
she popped up whenever my mood was down,
to mop up the grief in my silence
with a gulp of my tears seasoned with brine.

Wherever my feet led, she trotted,
night and day, she trailed my shadow.
Her lids never closed till she heard my snore
and up in a flash at my first morning yawn.

One day she followed me to school—
we both planned it without my Mum's consent,
I walked ahead, she darted in front and back of me—
and everywhere around me with joy.

First time crossing the expressway,
she roamed the yard till the watchman chased her out,
we waved goodbye—her final one—
before a car crushed her on the way back home.

Premium Member Taste and Flavour

Where is the flavour,
That we used to savour,
Many years ago

Ripe, juicy peaches,
Apricots and plums
That made flavourful preserves

They were made by many mums.
Gooseberries and Raspberries,
Black and redcurrants too

Succulent, Apples, Pears and oranges
To name just a few
Make sure you have a handkerchief,

To mop up the dribble from your chin,
Nearly every home grew fruit trees
Not to would be a sin

Home produce is healthy,
Picked from trees and dug from Earth,
The labour was rewarding,

It most certainly was worth
The effort to provide
Nutrition for the family

To keep them healthy,
And survive,

Processed food was minimal,
When I was a little girl,
Too much of it is criminal

It makes my stomach curl,
Packets of seeds and granules
A lousy excuse for food

The advertising is misleading,
It states the contents are good
I try to steer clear of them.

And confident others should.
I miss the aromas that seemed,
To be more pungent in the past,

The flavours in fresh food
And the satisfying tastes that last,
I feel a lot of flavours worldwide have left

Please bring back taste and flavour.
Before, it becomes bereft.

Premium Member Up, up and away

Heyyy friend, since we always UP to something, I wanna give a tribute to the word UP, because everyday of our life we do something meaningful with the word up.
So with that being said, I wanna know, what’s UP with you?
How many of these UPs did you do today?

hurry up, stand up, start up, write up
raise up, push up, speed up, mark up, fill up
come up, pull up, step up, climb up
drive up, straighten up, cheer up, tear up
rise up, lift up, run up, clean up, buckle up

chin up, pin up, put up, shut up
get up, sit up, hit up, spit up

woke up, broke up, spoke up
boot up, toot up, man up, hand up
chew up, blew up, screw up
walk up, talk up, hype up, type up

dress up, mess up, fold up, hold up
wake up, make up, break up
toss up, boss up, lay up, pay up
look up, hook up, took up, shook up
tighten up, lighten up, wrap up, strap up

save up, gave up, head up, made up
lick up, stick up, pick up
slip up, whip up, rip up, zip up
stock up, lock up, knock up

go up, show up, grow up, throw up, blow up
but never ever slow up

pop up, hop up, mop up, stop up
burn up, turn up, stuck up, luck up, f’k up
heat up, eat up, beat up, feet up

back up, pack up, rack up, jack up, stack up
but never ever slack up

I did a lot of these UPs today, but most importantly, I Stayed up and Prayed up…

Well, my “time UP,” lol
So what’s up? Can you think of any I missed?

King of the Goblins

He's the King of the goblins and should you displease
He'll pickle your eyebrows and eat them with cheese
Or cut you to pieces then boil your head
And mop up the gravy with slices of bread
But should you avoid this nobles displeasure
He will show you his strong room with all its fine treasure
Then returning above from the dark dungeons gloom
To the marble clad walls of the stately throne room
He will smile to his courtiers and wink with one eye
And you know deep inside that you're certain to die
For no one's allowed to return and proclaim
The things that go on in the goblin kings name

Angels Guide Me

Angels guide me

Sat in a hospital waiting for God;
I need some help, to pick me up.
I’m going crazy, I’ve lost the plot;
I’ve lost my way, without your love.

Stood before me are a cleaner and his twin brother;
A serene presence glows around them both.
They speak peaceful words, within the mundane
And I immediately feel comforted by the holy ghost.

They talk to each other and I listen intensely,
To every word looking for an answer.
There is no-one else in the waiting room
And in them I see Him or Her.

The God up above gave them religious names
And I believe they are here when I needed to be saved.
They mop up the floor like Morgan Freeman in Bruce Almighty
And I see in them both, something Heavenly.

When I am at my lowest and in need of some help,
They appeared before me and eased all my problems.
They showed me Heavens gates, when I was living in Hell,
Now I am sane once more, but angels should not be forgotten.

Premium Member Hand Made

Sweat drips from little dust covered faces in the grim back-alley factories

No time for rites of passage other than fingers nimble enough to spin and

Balance wheel spool spin and stitch regulator to their master’s instruction

Anyana is not unique but one of the ‘fortunate’ ones

Gloved hands mop up droplets of perspiration from a lace veil and seduce

A myriad of lovers before she even enters an intricate parquet dance floor

Takes a cue from the orchestra and whirls on stilettos and rhapsodic flair

Chantelle did not purchase her dress at the charity shop

Their stories unite as neo-liberal gangsters spin a yard on wheels of fortune

While their procession fails to trickle down moderate glimpses of hope

Some stride on the cat walk of privilege and others are scavengers in rags

Exposed nipples are rather dissimilar but follow a different path

Anyana gathers her virtues and sends love across the boundary of despair

Her shoes bear no fairy tale stories when midnight strikes at the fashion

Of stolen passion from sweat shops for garments scented with perfume

Cause and effect cannot moderate nor gloss over amoral fabric

Premium Member Capitalism and the Inevitable

What could have been more expected
from a system created on greed
Where the donors all make legislation
via Congress they constantly feed

When a country is poisoned by money
it no longer looks out for the small
It is owned and controlled by the richest
who’ve decided that they want it all
Our history, bloody and violent
was a preview of what we would be
Just because we can’t see all the bodies
doesn’t mean that their spirits are free
The obsession with money and power
are the perfect dictatorship blend
Void of love for the land or the people
who are merely a means to an end
They all file in the chamber like robots
and their leader looks on as he gloats
The decisions made by all their donors
turn into the Congressional votes
They say capitalism is wonderful
but who is it wonderful for
It is not for the factory worker
nor the people who mop up the floor
It is not for the ones who build buildings
or the secretaries or the clerks
It is not for the drivers of buses
or the ones who toil in public works
Capitalism is poisoned
it is not for the poor or the old
It is not for the cooks or the teachers
or the soldiers, as they have been told

The system is for corporate donors
who get rich on the taxes we pay
We all work to provide them the money
which they triple on stock market play

Premium Member A Funny Thing Happened On the Way To the Market

A funny thing happened on the way to the market
I arrived in my Porsche, there was no where to park it
So I circled the village; and parked it in a side road
When I returned an hour later, my car was being towed!
I asked the traffic warden whatever was the matter
She said there’s no tax disc, boy that warden did natter
I said what planet are you on, you are so behind the times
Tax discs are not compulsory, and I’ve committed no crimes
She said I also saw you were parked on double yellow lines
And for those misdemeanours you’ll be getting huge fines
I said madam I have to totally disagree with you
There are no yellow lines, nor red white or blue
May I urgently suggest you arrange a sight test
and return my Porsche as I’m getting quite stressed
She admitted needing glasses , she had done so for years
And she then burst out crying - I had to mop up her tears
A phone call was made; my car was towed back to me
I drove the warden to Specsavers, then went home for my tea

Shinty Town

Pine trees mingle into the green
The bonnet is wet with the clouds
Curling roads are full of promise of the joy around the corner
The windscreen and the highlands become twins
Sleepy wipers clear the way for the first sign
"Shinty this afternoon. 2:30pm throw up"
Anticipation and adrenalin become back seat drivers
Shiny streets smile their gaelic welcome
Brick buildings, holy and steadfast announce "you've arrived"
Pubs with antlers on the wall mop up stray pedestrians
Cars, single file and hypnotized
Crawl through the Main Street then turn right
Where they reach the sticky car park with tyre tracks thousands of years old
Misty highland backgrounds give an apostolic reminder of where you are
Then whispers to the locals; "custodian"
Highland glen
Shinty men
Shinty town.
