Into the blue, another new dimension;
into the blue- our destiny is Mars.
A strong reality, long-term ascension-
into the blue among the planets, stars.
Those former sci-fi program memories
will soon become a realistic fact;
our NASA teams now speak of guarantees
that man of Earth on Mars is not abstract.
Into the blue they'll go; six months asleep,
suspended animation all the way,
in modules filled with six and wired to keep
all fed and breathing on their space beltway.
A new frontier for earthlings to soon tool-
to Mars, perhaps a planet in that space
where not too hot- too cold will meet the rule
that Mars is in our Goldilocks Zone place.

Note:The term "The Goldilocks Zone" is used to describe the
"habitable zone around a star when the temperature is
not too hot or too cold." Dr. Charley Lineweaver, Stuart Gary
After the Earth, Mars is the most habitable planet in our
solar system due to several reasons: Its soil contains water
to extract. It isn't too cold or too hot. There is enough
sunlight to use solar panels.
Ok, there’s no jailbreak.
Make room for my innocent alter ego,
because there’s nothing to rebel against.
There are zero classes in my nascent,
year-long, Harvard master’s degree.
They call it ‘self directed study’
and like rockets have stages,
I’ll have ‘self paced modules.’
Am I suddenly at Oxford University?
They’re quite famous for that (no formal classes).
Or am I suddenly grown up and trusted?
I obviously don’t have it all figured out yet,
so I’ll just trust the process.
When I started that other school
(that shall not be named), my advisor
handed me a computer printout - a list
with something like 40 courses on it.
I thought, “Oh, my God,” but one by one,
year over year, I checked-off those courses
and walla! They handed me a diploma.
It was a process.
I understand, if you’re disappointed about the jailbreak, but there’ll
be coffee breaks, lunch breaks, study breaks, bathroom breaks
and more than a few self-directed dance breaks. So stick around.
“You know,” my therapist said, so very seriously, a few years ago,
“you keep laughing,”

They tell us we’re the future
yet 63% of us stand under twenty-five,
hungry for more than empty promises.
They say unemployment is only 6.8%
but when each job vacancy spawns nineteen hopeful faces,
those numbers shatter.
It’s not our fault alone
we’re taught to pass, not to prepare,
and leaders build bridges to nowhere.
change the system,
rebuild classrooms with real tools,
forge curricula in tune with today’s world,
craft jobs that don’t evaporate at sunset.
We memorize theories dusted in chalk,
while the real world races in code and startups
our syllabi stuck in yesterday’s headlines,
outdated lessons that never teach how to build,
to pitch, to innovate, to adapt.
change the system,
write modules on digital skills and green tech,
teach us negotiation, problem-solving, resilience,
so our knowledge finally walks hand in hand with reality.
Because when the system bends to our needs,
those cracks become the light we’ve been waiting for.
Consolation prizes are always small and devastatingly adequate.
We've all taken tests - if you haven't - I want your secret.
We (my study group) spent two weeks at my place (6th Ave).
prepping for finals - which are now only half complete.
These tests take everything we've learned this year in separate modules, like anatomy, physiology, pharmacology - and compresses them, like doppio - questioning not just the fact, but where it
belongs, and how it fits the whole. Eeeeek!
Working in a group makes studying feel less like punishment,
and more like prep for a game we might win.
There are four of us - Emma, Léah, Chloé and me.
Emma’s all sharp synthesis - capable of organizing any chaos,
Léah spots the strange detail, the hidden thread, that no one else saw,
Chloé brings speed - she has near total-recall,
and I'm good at naming patterns and tying up loose-threads
- Said slightly more poetically..
We’re optimized girls
who score higher than everyone else
high-yield, low-maintenance types
hydrated by iced coffee and espressos.
We know the names of things
we know you inside out
We've learned to perform concern
in a medically appropriate register,
because we know what's theoretically possible.
We abbreviate, speaking in acronyms like Navajo code-talkers,
because our frank opinions are socially discouraged.
We've learned to speak clearly about bodies,
while getting less time to enjoy our own.
Our tests are half-way done. I think If we stopped - just stopped doing the work - the silence would be enormous, like stepping out of a machine, that was louder than we knew
- but no one’s stopping.

These vast plains of steadfast savannahs
Haunt me joyfully with the silent hissing tune
Of the setting sun, smiling at the
Sashaying clouds of low skies, and ogling select woods.
The earth is brown here (snuff-brown, I insist),
And with the courage of humble humus soil
Into whose fecund wombs the fattest disciples of yam —
Each tuber a testimony to nutritious creation —are nursed.
Need I guess correctly the mating time of sorghum — in the rains
Or in droughts?
Millets keep decent trysts with their kind,
Aping the pullulation of scattered corn, tomatoes and cactus,
And peripatetic weeds, and all other refractory modules of tillage.
Anointing breeze is wafted by the league of seasons,
The illustration of grazing cattle, and singed
Hirsute peaks of knolls near totems hoisted by
Ancestral masters —on foot and on teething caravans.
The pasture, gold-trimmed, reaches the edge of the world,
And glitters with the power of mirage.
Within you, you belabour the point of nostalgia for mind’s
Aging peace fluttering in the distance, a faint, glistening ray greasing
The elbows of noontime.
Large, mourning boulders jilted by jealous streams serve as tour guides,
Deflecting pirouetting spectrums that harass the eyes as you ascend northwards . . . .
