Craggy-bearded, old gent;
cigar in-hand;
faded army fatigues,
thread bare from the years at war.
He sits, on a cold mall stool;
chats away with the passersby.
An old-timer
with more stories to tell,
than he has years left,
to live.
The crowd gathering ‘round him;
all curious-faced and half-smiling;
listen intently
transfixed by his war-memories.
The faces that he makes,
Expressions morphing,
into sadness;
at the relating of exploits
of long-gone comrades.
A frozen-faced,
young boy in the crowd,
absorbed in the old Vet’s memories,
says to him;
“Wow, you’re a real hero!”
Craggy-bearded old soldier
Laughs; points to the, purple heart,
proudly displayed on his chest.
“That’s exactly what they said,
when they gave me this medal, son.”

Way back when I first started, I whimpered
to you:
"No comments have I, or so very few!"
You spared no words, just plainly said,
"Did you come here to collect comments
or to write poetry, instead?"
So that has kept me here and busily quilling.
So whenever I see few comments,I just keep
drilling.
I swore on the day, I reached 1400 poems,
I'd write a poem to share her Instructions that
brought a point home."

I think of what you told me and I thus,
I wrote like h_ll!
I have only been here a year and a half.
But to non-commentors~ I just laugh!
But your one comment saved my
poetic neck.
I would have quit long ago if you had
not told me

be a wreck!

Buzzing mosquito
Celebrates my arrival
With a nice big bite
Skin slathered with pesticide
Will mosses give me a break!
Favourite target
I'm like medium rare steak
Beyond endurance
Miniature vampires eat me
Calamine lotion on bites.
Initially, I wrote a piece that rhymed then when I re-read rules realised it was a Tanka the sponsor wanted. So here goes with my redundant piece....
Malicious mosquito is not my friend
Hatched to bite until their end
My skin slathered in pesticide
No place to go, nowhere to hide.
Calamine lotion on all my bites
Beginning to look an absolute fright
Have enjoyed sun now I'm cooked
Avoiding mirror just can't look.
Will bloody mosses give me a break
I'm favourite target, medium rare steak
Frustrated, miserable where is that plane?
Holiday in sun! No, never again.

What I remember most on a romantic evening,
We had a picnic for two, it was a magical midnight!
I was blown away, and felt the earth move,
While I was drowning in his lust.
It felt like a fairy tale, until the incident,
But it’s like comedy infidelity now.
A time of loneliness is the only sure thing.
They say love changes everything, stupid fool!
Obsession turned into an empty promise.
The hope of bliss turned into a royal divorce,
as I sit all alone this evening.

Crocus, like a purple diamond,
Golden pollen-jewels within;
Sensational; seducing; and
Enrapturing my home garden…
Daffodil, cheering with delight,
As gorgeous as a butterfly;
Golden-yellow and pink perfect,
And in orange stood skillfully…
Tender tulip touching, teasing,
Tempting, tearing till total tired;
Every weather change resisting,
Remained in my garden enthroned…
'Lily of the valley' like little pearls,
As though flimsy, fairy frail flumes,
With aromatic nectar gels,
Adorned my garden with full blooms…
Just like a young ball python's skin,
Stood the snakehead fritillary;
Sober, somber, serene, solemn,
Conveying complete harmony...
There's hyacinth in my garden,
within so short a time she bloomed;
With royal honorableness,
Her magnificence she revealed...
There bloomed the beautiful bluebell,
Whom my neighbor-nun, highly loved;
And always adorned her chapel,
A vase-full of it well-arranged…
I have seen these flowers blooming,
Like small stars serenely strolling;
I have heard too their blossoming,
As silent as silence sleeping...

Spring, a time when nature promises seedlings to stretch out their roots firmly embed deep into earth soil for nutrients and water. Eyes of envy upon the world's soul and mind as nature resumes its loveliness.
Love in the air of dancing aromas of fresh budding flowers filling the air. The sun's kiss and smell of rain that bath Nature's inflorescence meadows in the afterglow before the blooms fade and all forgotten.
Spring brings new feelings and emotions when just stepping outside, breathing life and enjoy beautiful reborn scenery. Sounds of birds in the trees and shrubs. Animals become active with more abundance of food, feelings of love, joy, hope, and growth.

Vernal equinox lift, sun rays colorize Spring with its magic wand. Bare branches and cold soil, warms to its touch. Irises, like a net looking for butterflies, catch reds, whites, blues and every green bud unfurling. The cerulean sky brighter, the watercan-rain bringing up earth’s babies. Seasonal rebirth. Laud of robins, coo of wintersnow doves, murmuration of starlings — wings land on olive branch. We shout, “Alive! Alive!” We thrive in the trill of adventure, the hope of eternal resurrection.
