My father,
who tolerated no fat,
predicted I would do nothing right
or good,
much less healthy,
in my lifetime.

My mother,
absorbing nothing too mean or lean,
felt I could do nothing wrong
now,
so probably later as wellness
swell.

Neither my father,
mother,
nor I
seemed particularly surprised
when I rose and fell
somewhere in-between
these two extremes,
as do we all,
I suppose.

And yet I wonder
about my father's hierarchical value structure,
placing perfection on Earth's highest
biggest
thickest wellness state.

And remain silently awed
by my mother's reverse-hierarchical terms
endearing depths of greatest compassion
for who is deeper
and thereby more robust
with whom.

I suppose this means something
about where sexuality conjoins
sensuality,

About triangular cognitive structures
amid diamond infolding co-relationships,
about 1's
intersecting 0-Zones,
about light
foreshadowing dualdark reminders
of perfection,
about fullness of time
within timeless absence,
eternally co-arising.

Although,
neither Yang's ominous
hierarchical value predictions
nor Yin's generously interdependent
deep learning hopes,
sexual and sensual,
were all that helpful
for adolescent me,
struggling with spectral hungering we.

If 2020 were a basketball or football game,
we would be moving toward half-time with hope.
In the first quarter, we would be winning by large margins
and breaking records in many categories with all signs pointing
toward 'greatness again'. Most of our first quarter was very promising
until suddenly in the quarter, we took a nosedive into unchartered waters,
causing fear and erasing fortunes.

I never imagined a day when hugging and being hugged were luxuries
no longer affordable, and standing six feet apart was necessary protocol.
Never since World War two have we been so sanitized, shaken, and shattered,
but if anyone for any reason was asleep at the wheel, they were quickly awakened.

Never in my lifetime had I seen bottled water and toilet paper so desperately desired. Many of us were stimulated by a $1200 check from the treasury to ease CORONA'S pain.

The stench of death and threats of doom have covered the pages and screens of the media for most of 2020, but Spring has sprung and Summer is breaking forth with the promise of a song. So many would identify with the scattered bits of the lyrics from an old song that comes to mind, "Shattered dreams, wounded hearts, broken toys". And if I could sing and carry a tune, I would make music with words I heard recently from a sermon by my pastor. "We are not lost but are being led by God"

Two Worlds

Two Worlds

There are two worlds I live in
Side by side… living and breathing
One often seen whilst the other only seem
Do they see what I see deem believing?

I do see the conditions living the real
I do see my imagined world living amongst
I do see the conditioned living having to deal
And I do imagine to have everything and nothing to want

Nothing last like all living things
In my lifetime… I don’t think we are taught right
To be instilled with achievements and means
Life is nothing more but a being that might

To be one in a population… what is new?
To be no one in a population… do we shy?
Living in reality… what’s the given cue?
Living in dreams… will realities’ die?

I chose my own side of the world to live in
Living and breathing… imagining and dreaming
What only seem has become what I have seen
Because in my world, I see my dreams worth believing

Premium Member San Francisco's Union Square

The following scenario occurred via the guest sharing with me
when I was managing the front desk at a hotel in San Francisco,
fronting Union Square. I found his morals promising and conform
to a highly acceptable standard of right and wrong. The ambiance
at the time was understandably festive, and he occasioned me the
day after bearing a pleasant decency. A pricey hotel and a priceless
moment in my lifetime.

Premium Member LIKE WE DID IN '63

I know this sounds naive but still I hope and pray
that in my lifetime I will see
A world that comes together to live in peace and harmony.

It certainly hasn’t happened often…(and lately not much at all)
but when it does it is a beautiful thing…and the whole world is enthralled.

July 26, 1963…at the height of the Cold War…
when most of the world was split into two camps (similar to today)
a 6.1 earthquake struck the city of Skopje, Macedonia
reducing much of the city to rubble and clay.

Skopje did not participate in the Cold War…they did not align with either side
which allowed, for a little while at least, the whole world to be allied.

Countries on both side of the Cold War no longer concerned with anger or fear
sent money, doctors, construction workers…materials and engineers.

Enemies put their grievances aside…tabled their animosities and greed
and united to help a fellow country of this Earth in its time of need.

It was an exciting and inspiring moment in our planet’s history…
as 78 countries united in their concern and caring for Skopje’s recovery.

Sadly this spirit of giving by which the world, for a little while, was guided
faded…the Cold War resumed…and we are once again a world divided.

But the fact that 78 countries were able to put their bitterness and hostilities to rest…and act together as one
proves it is possible…confirms it can be done.

I do believe we can all come together…
that we don’t need a global tragedy…
that we can be kind and generous to everyone…every day
like we were once…back in 1963.

Premium Member Magical Stag

Magical stag appears on October 22nd every nineteenth year.
The forest comes glistening to life when he doth appear.
The faeries sing their tribute to this keeper of the woods.
He is ethereal and magic, and he brings the fey such goods!

With the stag comes starlight, sent by pinkish angels bright.
From heaven they feature him, giving him a chosen spotlight.
The brownies and the elves awaken, in the middle of the night.
The prophecy has come true! They shriek with utter fey delight.

The stag signifies healing, love, warmth, hope and other joys.
He does not come lightly, so the faeries wake up girls and boys.
A celebration is held in his honor, but with silence for it’s what he asks.
Keeping the brownie and gnome babies quiet is an awful task.

It’s the prince! The forest whispers; Luna moth glides through to say.
The stag is here, it is going to be a wonderful year, and marvelous fine day.
The forest blinks with happiness, feeling loved, honored and adored.
I have seen him three times in my lifetime. With this I’ll never be bored.

Premium Member Juneteenth

Juneteenth… Justifiably they say ignorance is bliss.
No, it’s nothing to be proud of.
Ultimately unaware and unfamiliar, living in Canada
I had no clue about racism.
Naïve with never more than a glimpse of references seen
on bits of night time television.
Epitomizing the slavery era, aired the much acclaimed
tv series ROOTS much to my chagrin.
Truthfully it was the last coup de grace,
the last nail in the coffin of my innocence.
Evil had a face and victims the likes of my idol
Sammy Davis Jr who sang The Candy Man.
Embittered? Supposedly not with his debonair charm,
yet what of all my Motown idols?
No further than in my lifetime, discrimination and bigotry,
                    the need for a Juneteenth.
Traditional celebrations commemorating the thirst
                    for freedom of emancipated ancestors.
Heads of parades waiving a Juneteenth Flag of Freedom
while sipping a Strawberry soda pop.

Premium Member To See What Was

To look back, to reflect, to understand
Those things which were lived long in my lifetime
As I see these things as my needs demand
Whether I had reason to be sublime
Or see what was, to know what's true or not
To now reveal what my mind wants to see
The choices made least not to be forgot
Nor will hide in shades of what could not be
Now darker brew turned a reflecting pond
With its calmer surface of mirrored sheen
Which my soul's eyes have come to look upon
When my silent solace waxes serene
To look back, to reflect on what I found
To describe what's known, my soul's sacred ground

BOOTS

Boots across his shoulders, striding through the park
Bright young man of 20, out to make his mark
On his way to Ayresome, living out the dream
Playing centre forward for his hometown football team
And yeah, I was there.

Goals were this lad's business, poaching was his game
Scoring by the dozen, on his way to fame
Stealing all the headlines, stirring up the crowd
Mixing it with hard men, bloody but unbowed
And yeah, I was there.

Never ducked a tackle, never jacked it in,
Never stopped competing till a draw became a win
Always put his head there, always had a go
Always 90 minutes and he always stole the show

Looking back in wonder, deep down memory lane
Matchdays in the Holgate, sunshine through the rain
Five fantastic seasons, never quite enough
The legend in my lifetime that was Boro's Brian Clough
And yeah, I was there

Oh yeah....... I was there.
