Sunshine

From my point of view
-each and every one of us is a son or daughter
-most of us have someone to look up to-
some of us were on our own
- a few of us grew up in a happy home-a lot of us did not
-most of us have childhood memories-some good-some not so much
-some of us turned to drugs-some to alcohol-
a lot of us to both

-for the few that made it into adult life unscaved…
-for those who did not fall-
we raise our glass and toast "To the lucky and the brave"
-some of us have children…- some of them have children too…
-some of us hung out in school- a few of us were bad-ass and cool
-all of us want to be loved -most of us can give love too
-all of us knew innocence..we're protected..and felt safe
-a few of us don't remember because all we learned was hate
To any of us who need to hear that someone still loves you.
..still remembers you before the scars
This is a shout out to you…A hug..a fistbump...a smile
You know who you are...you are me...and I am you
This is all of us sometimes
All of us matter to someone…We are their SUNSHINE

Premium Member Gratitude to Poetry Soup Commuity

A tapestry of words, a vibrant art,
Where souls across seas link and feelings start,
Within this space, a gentle, guiding hand,
Glow members of the Poetry Soup band.

This site, a crucible where souls converse,
Has been a solace, crafting my verses,
With member poets, keeping its shine bright,
Radiating readers with gleams of light.

My journey on this site, I trod with care,
Members’ considerate glimpse, I still share,
Upon my verses, they cast a bright eye
And understood the whispers of my sigh.

This digital home, a hearth true and deep,
Memories I've gathered, I`ll ever keep,
To all members, who made my journey glow
My gratitude, I desire to bestow.

My verses an open book on my life
With feels, flow, thoughts and gleams of painful strife
Freely exposed to the world to peruse,
In case a gentle soul may wish to choose.

When pains pressed and spirits started to fray,
Members` empathy brightened my sad day,
Offering kind wishes when hash strains spread,
Compelling me to stretch myself on bed.

Their understanding, like a silent grace,
Found its expression in this shining space,
No judgment cast, but open hearts to lend,
A true connection, from start to the end.

Through stressful strains and times of acute pains,
Their warmest wishes dropped like welcome rains,
A balm upon my ache, a soothing sound,
Where shining solace and hope could be found.

And as the years may slowly onward creep,
And slumber calls, a promise I will keep.
This gratitude, a flame that will not cease,
Until my breath finds everlasting peace.

Members will be in my mind, a sweet hold,
More precious than a story can unfold,
The warmth they gave, the kindness they conveyed,
An indelible mark, forever made.

My gratitude, a river that will flow,
Until my very final breath will glow,
This tapestry of moments, I`ll embrace,
With zeal still held, within this hallowed space.

Running Away

When I was a kid, I wanted to run away.

As if running away, would be fun.

Like running through clouds,

And the clouds are happy.

My mom scolded me,

But it was all fun, and make believe.

I just turned 17.

I just got my license.

And the car is glaring in the sun.

Singing songs on that radio.

That were sad.

Driving slowly,

So I can come home a little late.

When I was 17, I wanted to run away.

Like running through the clouds.

As if the clouds would hide me.

I never told them that.

Or else they might take my car away.

I never told them that.

Or else they might pack my bag for me.

SLEEPLESS IN MY BATTLE

(Perhaps the desire to find Nirvana has become tainted? A worm of a man has done this to me; has burrowed into the fruit of my dreams.)

We who wield the mighty sword
leaded and sharpened neat and straight
search vainly for hearty tales
where Eros or God has placed a hand
and turned the wilderness we have made
back into the garden with apple trees
and juicy synonym pairs and plums.

We yearn to taste the flesh sublime
to feel its secretions dripping
and with them ourselves slipping
into a whirlpool of sheer delight
from which we never rediscover
loneliness, despair, and pain.
Oh to be in that blissful state again
this side of the great divide!

So I put my pen and sword aside,
straighten my back and feign content
when in truth the World's goodness
is so well and truly spent
that it has bled me completely dry.
For every orphaned child I wish to cry,
or for widowed mother lowly bent
her home a shattered withered wreck,
I stay safely at home cocooned
my tears long since completely dried
desensitised by gory media information -
I count them one by one instead
as passing dark amorphous sheep
whose task is solely to prevent my sleep.

Premium Member Death Came a Knocking While I Was Out

Death came a knocking while I was out
He did not have time for me to be about
Up at five before the sun
Picking up what I left undone
Coffee black cup after cup
Trying to get my body woke up
Do a load of laundry and fry some eggs
Do a load of dishes wake up the kids
Feed them, cloth them solve every crisis extra soon
Off to the school bus jumping over the moon
Let the dog out, put the cat in
Finish to start, end to begin
Wash my face, comb my hair
Put on anything that is near
Rushing out, racing the car
Just an errand here, on time so far
Dry cleaning, day care, drug store
No time for just one more
Clock in at work meeting at nine
Forget lunch who has the time
In basket full, out basket bare
Check an e-mail if you dare
Finally work is done
You clock out on the run
Get bread and milk and sneak a candy bar
The kids are home and they need the car
Soccer, baseball, dancing and the flute
All these activities cost me loot
Hardly time to eat dinner at eight
Home work, baths than a minute to escape
The cat gets out the dog wants in
You're looking in the cupboard for that bottle of gin
Finally a moment of peace
Everybody exhausted and asleep
You forgot Junior's cupcakes off to Wal-Mart
Better gas up saving time to be smart
On the way home a ring on the cell phone
Quick trip to the airport I moan
Spouse trip cancel needs ride
It is okay you will survive
Finally in the drive way and who do you see
Shaking his head as he leaves
Death walking by, he finally gave up
He murmured about a schedule and life's a nut
So as I lay down to rest
My love's hand upon my chest
I hear the crying of a child
The boogie man awoken him in dreams wild
I sometimes wonder if it would bother me
If Death would come back and fetch me
But the note he left upon my door
My soul is mine till I'm ninety-four
He did not have time for me to be about
Death came a knocking while I was out

Premium Member Sense of a Woman

She’s born to nurture, love and understand,
Her puissant presence sways from gay to grand.
She needn’t scream and shout her point of view,
With calm and class She carries herself through.
Multiple roles She’s destined to achieve -
Be it career, home, a child to conceive.
Her trademark touch - tranquility and taste -
Are ample antidotes to a man’s haste.

Love, laced with patience, luminates her face,
Petals of a flower - wisdom and grace.
She may seem soft, her stem is supple yet strong,
Respect She does demand, don’t do her wrong.
Intuition is her set convention,
Beyond other gender’s comprehension.
Whether unjust or unfair She stands by,
Her Forgiveness - your prize to glorify.

Above all, She’s the matrix of desire,
The primal sense that sets the world on fire.
Subtle aroma nature couldn’t invent -
Seductive, suave and sweet - a Woman’s scent.

Premium Member I Think Im In Danger - Away In a Manger Parody

I think I’m in danger
I could end up dead
When my wife smells the perfume
on her side of the bed
The perfumes I buy her
From a cheap back-street dive
Don’t smell like this perfume
It’s Chanel number Five

She’s been away a few days
Visiting her sick mother
So I brought home a Nympho
For a bit of the other
But my wife said this bedroom
Always smells of rank farts
But it now smells like a boudoir
That’s frequented by tarts

She’d smelt it and I told her
What jumped into my head
That the little Lord Jesus
Was asleep in our bed
But he smelt just like a manger
Kinda sawdust and dung
So I sprayed him with perfume
Well it had to be done

She cursed and I was thrown out
By the tip of her toe
And I flew through the doorway
Coming down in the snow
So it seems that like Mary
During that first Christmas
I shall go to meet Jesus
While I’m sat on my ass

Premium Member -Confined

Day after day unable to roam
Doing what’s needed
Staying safe, staying home

Week upon week inside a confined space
Nowhere to go
No other place

Good days positive
Fun and laughter galore
Reflection of life and memories before

Grateful, appreciative
For all life provides
Content for protection, safe inside

Bad days negative
Unbearably long
Nothing right, everything wrong
Frustration, worry, uncertainty, fear
Tired, lazy, future unclear

Motivation fading
No end in sight
Unsettled times
A challenging plight

Worries, woes consuming the mind
Insanity looming being confined
Leaving the home a difficult chore
Struggling to get passed the front door

Feelings of anguish, sadness, dread
Apprehension not knowing what lies ahead

Our world is responding to a time unsure
This virus can come knocking at anyones door
So let’s work together stay safe and contained
So we can roam our earth in freedom again

Premium Member Love Songs and Eschatologies, Part Two

Oooh, Andrea, can we take a walk,
because my time is passing
 and we need to talk.
Seems the days grow shorter
when the ice melts in
And we don't know if we're gonna fall in.
But there's a place we can go
the same old yard we both know.
And the rivers are divine,
you can love the world...anytime.
Oooh Andrea, we need a break
withe people rushing, I can't slip in
But if I hold you close, then I know
we'll make it to the next show.
And I will be with you
and both of us can't wait.
By the shores of destiny, by the indigo of fate.
Oooh Andrea, if I said I was wrong
could it make you see?
All the joy. you give to me.

Bringing home a loving gift,
to the last I'll ever kiss.
My heart, my soul a peddler's treat,
for the world itself to feast.
Be then to me, a lasting note,
of sipping drinks and Christmas snow.
I heard the sound of fading doe, and Ray and me.
So hard it was to eat the dirt,
the peasants tilled; for what it's worth.
And now my sins be washed in blood,
and now my mind be drowned in flood.
Elijah the earth, the crop to be sown
when the grimmest nuances are left alone
Begone and steal away some grace
and kiss the memory of her face.
Begin again and all we've done
is passed in time and lost in fun.

To saturate a living a dream
 and crush the last word.
We sit afloat our tropic boat
and think we're never heard.
The type is set at zero
and the fall is set to find
a way to get through the mountain,
so we don't have to climb.
It's the way that we sit awake,
the way the words still rhyme.
Like a flowered bird in paradise,
a maiden on the Rhine.
Photographs of the lillies,
pictures of us all.
the projections of our vision
 until we break the wall.
Just roll your eyes like you used to
and fly like we are one.
Grip the sighs and the gleaming
of the crystal light to come.
To saturate like a raindrop,
and melt into the breeze.
While we sit idle by the fire,
all in vain: we freeze. We freeze.

Premium Member The Only Star For Me

I heard people say, in heaven angels live,
with pristine astral beauty divine they blend.
The sparkle of stars from milky way they derive,
but often on earth in our midst they descend.

You may ask me, how could I come know?
I’ve seen the heavenly shine in my mother’s heart,
as bright as the sparkling star it used to glow,
its luster of love nurtured me from the start.

In times of turmoil when the family was adrift,
she toiled hard to grow our roots in pasture green.
To me in my uncertain deprived life she gave a gift,
a nest from where I flew in the future sky unseen.

I soared high under the care of her protecting wings,
the rising aspirations the wild winds couldn’t blow away.
I live in the shadow of her undying love, memory brings,
for it’s her hands that sculpted me what I’m today.

She has left me for her new home a long time ago,
when in dismal night the glistening north star I see,
guiding me to my final destination, I then know,
shining like an angel, she is the only star for me.
