She searched beneath flashing green neon signs
advertising cheap rooms for rent - ten by the hour.
She prowled - her vision sharpest in the night
Celadon eyes of a feral cat, out searching for her Tom.
Sufficient suspicions surfaced in a splenetic jaded mind
fed with juicy scraps and morsels of hearsay.
Jealousy grew in truculent shades of green,
to a height taller than a forest of giant spruce and pine.
Trust be damned, an evil spell cast upon her heart.
Neon blinks painted emerald stripes across her distorted face.
Possessed, she ripped her dress and screamed his name.
Pounded on doors painted in deep verdant hue
all closed to the night's vulgar rantings.
Flashing lights, blue and red, a door finally opened.
Tears fell from green crystalized eyes
black mascara streaked down each cheek
a beast-like mask of caustic emotions.
Caged - the 'Green Eyed Monster' - locked away

Green Contest: Silent One
Knowing one could have been a contender,
Is sometimes enough.
Knowing that the opportunity was given,
Is sometimes enough.
Knowing that it was yours to keep or to give away,
Is often enough.
Knowing the playing field was as even as was humanly possible,
Is often enough.
Knowing all the information given at the time was correct,
Is often enough.
Knowing there are opportunities elsewhere,
Is often enough.
Knowing one has the freedom to choose,
Is often enough.
Knowing all these things,
Is often enough to keep the green eyed-monster at bay.
Knowing all these things,
Is always enough to look back without anger.
Knowing all these things,
Is always enough to widen your circle.
Knowing all these things,
Is always enough for you, to perform kindly acts.
Knowing all these things,
Is always enough to tell you, who you are.
Knowing all these things,
Is always enough for you to act kindly to others,
who are not there yet.
Knowing all these things,
Is always enough for you to spread the word.
I married the man of my dreams.
At seventeen I had gone to extremes.
I loved him as if he were everything.
For him I could try to be anything.
When I say that I loved him dearly,
Let me state this very clearly.
I loved him like he held the air I breathed,
And when he was away I simply seethed.
As we went along our way in life,
There came to be so much strife.
We went out with men and women,
And my worries always had him in.
Jealousy, the green-eyed monster
Stole my comfort as I did ponder.
And he carried the same anxiety.
Neither of us felt too much piety.
Eventually, those feelings we carried,
Led us into a place where we unmarried.
And living apart we discovered thoughts,
That showed us both we had lost lots.
It seems today we are distant friends,
After living through years of amends.
We both know we did it all wrong,
But in the end we are both strong.
Jealousy will lead the heart to ache,
And cause the troubled mind to quake.
It is truly a devil to contend with,
The wisdom I tell you is not a myth.
So still your heart when you fall in love,
And listen to the one who is up above.
He will guide you to the right ways,
And help you to always give praise.

Welcome Back Li’L Brother
Written by: D. Collins 8/5/15
Welcome back Li’L Brother we’re glad to see you
That green-eyed monster that’ll bring D.C. anew.
Word on the street is you’re coming Ill-Na-Na.
And the old school brothas are down like it’s the law.
Welcome back Li’L Brother, we have surely missed you.
Tom Joyner in the morning is not what I like listening to.
Donnie knows about Cameo and a little Keith Sweat.
Instead of talk radio, he gets the women’s panties wet.
I’ve been tryin’ to told ‘em, Donnie ain’t no joke.
He is the answer for those who just don’t know.
Welcome back to the city you once set ablaze.
Any MC out there, make them your slave.
Welcome back Li’L Brother to the word on the street.
We’ll give you a pass because you are just like me.
Born and bread to that in which you cannot escape.
Giving life to the airwaves in abstract form and shape.
There’s a green eyed monster over there
Sitting stubborn upon a chair
Watching every move I make
He’s waiting till I make a mistake
But jealousy will get him know where
I do what I want and do what I dare
He can look and he can stare
He won’t be stopped if he starts to flare
So he’ll have to learn to swallow his pride
The jealousy stuff he holds inside
Don’t let that green old monster out
He’s starts to roar and starts to shout
This is a battle he needs to learn
To control his temper and not be stern
If he refuses to play the ball
He could end up, just losing it all
Sometimes anger gets the best of him
His jealousy rages from within
I’ve told him before don’t lose your cool
Jealousy just makes you look a fool
I know he’s the hulk but I don’t care
He’s very tender and likes to share
I just feel sorry for the other men
Because when he’s angry he’s not their friend
He's a green mean fighting machine
Huge muscles bulging firm and lean
They call him the hulk, but he's just a teen
He's a massive bulk and can be mean
So I warn you now don’t come too close
If he turns green you could end up toast
He’s just watches me from a far
Making sure nothing bizarre

Face to face , eye to green eye , introduction to an unknown
I pray this concept, unjustified : never to be cloned
A seed planted, nurtured : is now fully grown
An aroma filling my Heart with doubt, I feel so empty : alone
I ask : does my Heart speak lies to YOU ; my most BELOVED
Is my Heart twisted around the evil envy of Jealousy?
How can I say with all my Heart : I LOVE YOU
Without a green eyed monster raising its ugly hackles inside YOU
Will Michael Jordan’s contest : “Twisted” untwist YOUR Heart
Untwist my Heart ; so it can say “ I LOVE YOU Barbara Jean “
With no Jealous repercussions
Dedicated to Barbara Jean Gorelick
Inspired by Barbara and Michael Jordan's Contest " Let's get Untwisted "
I went a searchen for da green eyed monster
Yet da big fella was nowhere in site
They'd said he was really quite fearsum
He'd often appear on a saderday night
I went out wit my little woman
That sweet gal o mine lookin so fine
If ya asked me to give er a ratin
She'd be a ten or at least a nine
Da more dat I got inta ma drinkin
Ma senses dey became super fine
I noticed sum good lookin fella
Eyen dat special woman o mine
The vessels in ma neck started poppin
My eyes began glowin a sickly green
I got up frum ma chair started screamin
Dats right I started makin a scene
Ma little woman she was sum embarrassed
That yung fella smashed me in da face
Tank goodness she came to ma rescue
It's a good ting she had a can a mace
It seems I'd been mad about nutin
Dat young fella had been on a date
Ma wife told me dat I'd bin right silly
She was quite sure dat his date's name was Nate
Tankfully dos green eyes dey turned back ta blue
Da colour now is gone wit out a trace
except for da red and da black an blue
dat now is coverin dis here old face
For Verlena Walker's Green Eyed Monster contest
Most days I’m basking in sweet Yellow’s hue.
Despite some woes, I often do okay.
Perhaps I’ll fret or feel a little Blue.
But even then, I search for just one ray
of sunshine! Other colors visit me.
From time to time, I feel Red’s passion stir
inside me, but (and very thankfully)
I’m not a friend of Black, the torturer,
although I’ve spied his shadow at my door.
The Green-eyed monster seldom do I see,
but Green and Blue of nature I adore!
And when I surge with creativity -
approaching Lavender - I feel I’m whole,
for then. . . . imagination takes my soul.
Gordon Lightfoot song title used:
Approaching Lavender
Moments like this,
I don't like myself
if I could I would pretend
I don't know myself
Why do I allow this ugly flaw
to sometimes rule my life
allow it to steal precious moments,
moments I'll never get back..
I hate who I become
when the green-eyed monster
rear it's ugly head,
I cut myself
off from everything
and everyone
because who knows
how they'll react?
My silence
says it all
it's like wearing
a danger sign around my neck
"keep away, hazardous terrain"
Like a flash, it's gone
into nowhere until the next time…
My silent prayer?
Please, please stay away
because you're one companion
I can definitely live without…
Green-eyed monster
Rears it's ugly head.
Those eyes
Seething
With contempt,
Trained
On his competition.
You-belong-to-only-me possessiveness
Betrays a stolid disposition.
His lover
And his pride
On the line.
The rope of emotional restraint,
Gradually slipping from grasp.
Pangs of intense anger,
Arrested;
A molten lava
Close to
Violently erupting.
Paranoia
Geysers upward.
Tentacles of insecurity
Steadfastly hooked onto him.
His jealous thoughts
Racing
In nanoseconds.
