I feel her wake, and I quake
Afraid...I'll make the same mistake
For goodness sake
My hands....
how they shake
I hear her low moan, and I groan
She'll rise from where she's been thrown
I'm not alone...never alone
I can't atone
for deeds she has sown
She is so real...her power...I feel
As I reel
she makes me kneel
No, mercy...she won't cut a deal
My breath of life...she'll steal
Sedated....
I try to keep her sedated
Her desires bated
Her wanton whims weighted
The prey she wants....crated
I need her to be....
dated
But...it is always the same fight in the night
Her insatiable delight
burns through her superwoman might
It’s not right...it's not right!!
I'm lost in this plight
And so....I give in
I let her win
She’s my weakness, my sin
She unbares my skin
Laughs above the din
My right and wrong in a spin
I smile...
I smile...HER sultry grin
Tonight, she would not be sedated
And her prey, she neatly bated
Her desire, swiftly sated
His heart, with her blood nails, grated
It was fated
Fated
So....complicated
She has the control
Of my body and soul…
Destruction, her goal
Buried...in this black hole
She keeps me....
Sedated
Eileen Manassian Ghali
This is a poem about a woman struggling to keep her inner longings at bay....It uses personification....the SHE....is a symbol of the sin that struggles in the woman for mastery. It is not a poem about a man and woman though when SIN has its way....men are the casualty.
And then the cold had its story to tell again and emerged overnight
The seasons had not changed but as always kept a sudden surprise
Days sunbathing and skinny dipping on the beach felt like a shiver
As the UV filter congealed in oily tubes and prepared to hibernate
Shells from the shoreline caught the fading light by the window
Sent a message of hope and rebirth with foregone conclusions
That life can be a nauseous circle and hearts can fade without fail
Pebbles watched on still sandy and puzzled for they had lost the sea
Driftwood was stacked near the fireplace and awaited its fate
Would it go up in smoke or be preserved for artwork and fantasy
Knotted and round at the edges the tinder planned its escape
We should warm hearts and memories and refuse to be ashes
Fossilised wisdom cast its message from the core of its surface
Requested to be held in regard and esteem by the collector
Sandalwood fragrance conjoined with salty motion making waves
And reached deep inside sadness and sorrow for ongoing erosion
Jenny had lit candles whose flames danced a ballet with apt feeling
Moving as they held court over coal logs bellow ember and ashes
Their flickering flashes sang a tune of resilience and feeble closure
Blending with shades of rose petals and thorns gathered in summer
While woollen hats blankets and hot water bottles found purpose
In the essence and meaning of heart-warming tender togetherness
Jenny folded summer clothes and gave them a home in the confines
Of her chest of drawers handed down over generations of close kin
She made pumpkin soup with ground cinnamon and nobly ginger
Grated herbs seeds and remembrance then smacked her kind lips
My kisses have survived another year frozen as they may impress
The knowledge that life is impermanent and wanes as it struggles
In the distance a fog horn sounded mist spray darkness and longing
The lighthouse’s beams shone a torch and glowed unperturbed
Whereas Jenny felt a moment of questioning the might of the ocean
Took out a photograph and honoured her husband long missed in a storm

She is a sop to insanity, a foreign minister that sounds off like a gong.' With such alien love
She is imbued, of all things strange.' And imported shoes..' all the time she's been around, we've watched living Aussies driven into the ground' hope assailed and
Men denigrated, women disenfranchised
My nerves; are by now raw grated, i've known cross-eyed mongrels, with a better view; of
Aussie values, ya-know? just things true blue..Like safe streets. And parks' like beaches and lakes, instead its
The chop-suey
Only; menu..Or an empty plate, I'll swear she trading noodles, for spaghetti sticks
As albo, creams of millions..
Its sick sick sick.' And things really won't
get better.' All the time this
Wong one, keeps.' Sending off; all
those loaded red letters.'
Fresh tomato juice with a slice of lemon.
Some moving classical music by Rossini
Oh, and a red checkered table cloth to
help set the scene.
And old bottle of Chianti with a rainbow
candle burning in it.
That aromatic, fresh Italian bread!
Just light the candle, sweetheart,
So we can please, please begin it.
Italian salad with heavenly olive oil,
imported from Italy.
Lasagna with marina sauce.
Fresh grated Parmesan, oh, I am
simply drooling.
We'll clink our wine glasses first,
like when we were first dating!
Then our Italian dinner will begin.
Like two hungry wolves, we lunch,
just salivating

I will share grandma’s recipe, it’s cheesy
Follow my recipe to the letter, it’s easy
I’ve produced this layered dish many times
I love its witty sometimes bawdy rhymes
Please ensure that you enhance this dish
With cheesy humour it'll make it delish
Add grated cheese to the béchamel sauce
This pasta dish will be perfect of course!
Limerick Lasagne is so simple to make
Meat, pasta and sauce then oven bake
Lines 1, 2, and 5 have syllables up to ten
These funny rhymes will flow your pen
Lines 3 and 4 are just a little bit shorter
They should rhyme, if not then they aughta!
Their syllable count is never more than seven
Consistent syllables make limericks heaven!
Each poem needs a huge dollop of wit
When well presented it’ll be a big hit
Pasta layers, meat and au gratin topping
Gives giggles galore, without stopping!
Let's entertain no doubt. This book was ,
but birthdays come around, and must be feted.
Five brothers and one sister celebrated
each other's anniversaries. Close-knit
would hardly do us justice. When you fit
into the world around you, predicated
on shared assumptions, fine. I knew we grated
on all our neighbours, weren't identikit
buffoons. That drew us closer, you'll allow.
Each birthday, one same present overlapped.
We each got "Field and Hedgerow" (kids adapt
when they've got nothing). But I vow
I'd love to give that present, poorly-wrapped
in flimsy Woolworth paper, to them now.
the paddy fields are ready to be harvested,
green crops sparkle freshened by clear early dew,
water lilts its way through channels time tested,
first of South Indian harvests, brings hopes new!
the time of the year that sees a weather shift,
Sun in its northern ride moves to Capricorn,
ushers an yield of plenty and nature’s gift,
cheer grows in the village as the year is born!
far further afield swinging in the warm breeze,
stand tall succulent crops of sweet sugar canes,
cultivated in rich soil they grow with ease,
watered by the monsoons of previous rains!
the farmers have a special joy in their walk,
God gives in plenty when one has worked so hard,
bags of different lentils they load and chalk,
time to celebrate! festivities on card!
14th January Pongal is celebrated,
where everything harvested makes a special meal,
rice, lentils boiled and with black pepper grated,
jaggery from sugar cane is tasty deal!
women wear bright coloured silk with gold jewels,
men are dressed in clean whites for the festive day,
children fly kites, anointed cattle wear new bells,
celebration of Pongal cheers all the way!!

Spice doesn’t Like me Anymore
David J Walker
Spice doesn’t like me anymore
A taco would be nice
With a little Spanish rice but
Spice doesn’t like me anymore
Some frijoles with grated
cheddar cheese
would be fine but let me
add please,
leave off the jalapeno
cause its just No Bueno
Spice doesn’t like me any more
At one time I could eat it with ease
But now not even Chinese
That Goo goo Guy Pan is for a
Younger man
Cause Spice doesn’t like me anymore
So what am I supposed to eat
That doesn’t have just a little heat
There are very few dips
As good as Salsa and Chips
Too bad
Cause Spice isn’t nice
And nothing will suffice
And it’s hard to think twice
About paying the price
For guacamole with chipotle
Once more
But Spice doesn’t like me
Anymore
Her eagerness to be successful
bought her to him to be alone
Her need and. desire to copulate
Made loving her less a chore
The wines and bread to began
The evenings scored in song
Might this night start our togetherness
A perfection of you and I
Nothing to sort through
Alone just you and I
