A story I read about war and good luck charms…..
The Good luck charm
Standing on the dock in front of the troop ship
His mother hugged him and fussed about Straightening his hat and brushing his tunic and bits
Finally stuffing a hankie in his top tunic pocket
He protested as a son was prone to
do
As it was all done in front of his mates
Finally it was last call as he followed up the gangway too
And the ship moved away to the Great War frontlines
He was a message runner for his battalion
And he carried the hankie through his Great War battles
Often dodging the machine guns all along
As he made his way through the mud and shell holes
His mother’s hankie always made him think of her
Never leaving it in his pack not wanting to lose it
And as a good luck charm when bad scrapes did occur
Until one day he was caught by a machine gun blast
One of the bullets wounded his neck as the wound showed
With his life pouring out with his blood
The only thing was the hankie to stem the flow
As he held it tightly to his neck to stop the blood
The stretcher bearers found, bandaged and brought him in
With the hankie stemming the blood flow
He was taken to the Casualty Clearing Station through the din
The doctor and nurses worked on him
There was no more war because of his injuries all
So he went back to Australia taking the hankie with him
And he kept it with blood stains from the wound call
Until the Second World War was declared again
His son took it again to war in North Africa, Greece, Crete and to New Guinea to the end
The son returned home and gave the hankie back to the Anzac
Lauding its power to keep him safe in battles again
He returned home to his family and life in Australia
There was a third generation of warriors in war going back
When a grandson took the hankie along too
Vietnam was the battlefield and the hankie’s powers were fact
He returned to Australia unscathed too
The hankie had good luck in store
When carried into battle as a good luck charm
For a family of warriors who needed it and more
And the family was convinced it protected them.

If I don't know who I am, then what will I tell everyone?
A scuba diver without his mask is just a body in water
A father without a child is just a stranger
A lion's head on the wall is a symbol of wealth,
Not strength
If I don't know who I am
Then what will people say about me when I'm dead?
How could this possibly have happened to me
With the apple in the pig's mouth?
It’s not as red as my cheeks when I’m around you
But it’s fresher than the lines in my head to try and impress you
But you’re still my good luck charm
And always will be
And how could you be God with all those rips in your pants?
The doctor said, sometimes words fail
But I need to trust you
When your holding the scalpel in your hands
But how could you be God when you need a dog to protect your land?
The doctor said, sometimes words fail
The doctor said, sometimes words fail
But I have to choose to trust you
When you’re the one holding the scalpel in your hands
If you wanna be a leader,
You have to lead once and a while
Part of a lion’s prowess
is standing tall on the highest rock
When no one else will
If you wanna be a hero
You have to save something once and a while
And writing letters and putting them on doorsteps
Is not the same
I wish you held me as close
As you hold the pill bottle to your side
It's so sardonic how you act like it's nothing to depend on them
If you wanna be a hero
Then you have to save something once and a while
And the way your pills have given you a new life
Is not the same
A preacher without a story is just a scammer
A lawyer without a paycheck is just a liar
And myself without defining traits
is just a shell of what I could've been
If you wanna be a beautifier,
You have to feel beautiful once and a while
Since when did hating ourselves become satire?
Only when it boils over, is when we yell to cease fire
And I’ve never cared to be popular
But everyone loves having fans
And how could you be God
as such a harsh judge of character
without a gavel in your hands?
My good luck charm, my treasure it's what I found. My lover, best friend all wrapped in one another. No other it's clear, I've never been so ready for what's real. Smiley faces, no new faces, heart skips a beat. You make me want to disappear, up up and away, I can't feel my feet! The cloud on the left, that cloud on the right, the moon in the sky, is were I hide my pride. Being this girl I am, it's really hard you see, inside outside I've never been so beat. Beautiful, wonderful is who I am, you make me want to shout and scream, "LOVELY".... is this really me? Don't wake me up, I love the thrill, it's something way more than I can feel. If God is for me than who can be against me, is what I tell the world. You never have to sin again, just let me fulfill. Fulfill your heart with Gods word and all he has for you, it's so much beautiful, magnificent let me take you through. Up the hills and through the valleys far far away, you wouldn't have to experience the pain and heavy chains. Just let go, let go and break free, those chains is super heavy... don't you agree? Trying not to get hurt again is the true meaning of promises, but knowing your past was tragic, I'll never try to attack it. Hard aching pain, unwanted fairly tells, is what I been through. Please help me to understand the true definition of "New". New beginnings, happy endings is what I truly wanted. Learning to open up and love again is simply said than done, I am a soldier through it all, I can feel the army ready to come. So when it's all said and done I've reached my limit and sturdy peek, BOOM .... there goes the storm, I'm super ready for my new journey.
Its time for celebration, Fun n frolic all around,
Everywhere is merry time;
Red, green white color of season.
Its jingling bells, beautiful trees.
Tis Christmas!!!
Snow all round, All happy &gay
Tall trees, decorated with bells, stars, good luck charm et all;
Misltoes hanging, stockings filled.
Yo Ho.....Santa's coming!!!!
May be wishes coming true.
Happiness all around
Ask a wish & its fulfilled.
But whats the use..??
All like this day except one.
Even that person used to love this day .. but now not more.
Earlier used to wait to arrive
would be double celebration, Christmas & B'day
On that day lamp lights were burned around midnight,
Chatting, thanking, praying, seeking blessings from near & dear ones,
Those were the happiest yester years of that person's life.
Now no dislike it.
As usual awaiting for the big day, but
Major let down came from close people,
Quarrels, argument happened.
And many more...
Though it wasn't that persons fault.
Most awaited day was a worse day mare.
Immensely hurt-but only that person.
Made a firm decision-not celebrating with near-dear ones.
May be only few friends-true few ones.
Even foes seems to be better now,
Loved ones seems distant to me.
Indeed that person distanced own self from them
Distancing away was not what was wanted,
But circumstances were proving that.
Better to be loner than among with betrayers & cheaters
U will feel that person must be wrong somewhere,
Without a doubt for once person is right.
Now don't have any regrets,
No sorrow.nothing
Just happy being alone.
No awaiting for next X'mas...
With a ray of hope.
There’s Something About Her
By Jim Campbell
There’s something
About her
She’s so hot
Had to
Take a double look
So what
See that body
So much reminds me
Of ice cream
Close my eyes
I have a wet dream
Sweetest thing
I’ve ever seen
Got to get out
My paint set
Because she’s Venus
I have to
Paint her portrait
I’m no Michael Angelo
But
She gets my heart running
Like Flo Jo
Picturing her beautiful face
Wherever I go
I can see her
When I look
At a rose pedal
She’s my
Good luck charm
My Mojo
How she got
This beauty
Absolutely perplexes
Me
It’s like
Insanity
Or
The law
Of relativity
Because
I don’t understand it
But she’ll understands me
Hopefully
For
I can see
Spending my life
With her easily
She’s an angel
Gold Halo
Wrapped around me
Tears me up inside
In her
I wish I could confide
My feelings
I can no longer hide
If I don’t tell her
I just might die
So I got down
On my knees
Hoping that she
Could see
How much
I was into her
All along praying
She was into me
Lovely
I want to tell you
What can I do
Because I’m
Really into you
This I know you
Never did know
I no longer
Want to be your shadow
Will you love me
And allow
Love to grow
Let me take care of you
And hope that
Our love will never falter
So that some day
We’ll meet at the alter
And as one
say I do
After we promise
To love
Cherish
And honor
All these
Are my dreams
And nothing will deter
My love which is for sure
Because
There’s just
Something about her….
With wings spread wide, above the tide
He soared amongst the clouds
The sea breeze blew and there he flew,
The mighty albatross
He flew to meet an ancient ship
The ice it could not cross
Save noble bird, the saviour
The mighty albatross
The ice began to melt away
The path ahead to cross
A good luck charm, to bring no harm,
The mighty albatross
He spent his days among the crew
Yet fate is but chaos
His days were numbered, very few
The mighty albatross
For then an ancient mariner
An arrow shot across
And thus he fell unto the waves,
The mighty albatross
And as he fell, he cried aloud
While flapping in despair
What foe is this to go and kill
The mighty albatross?
Did I you harm, your good luck charm
From spirits wild of storms
I saved you all, and now I fall
The mighty albatross
Well hear you this, the curse is his
Doom, despair and chaos
And though you’ll try, you will not die
Said mighty albatross
And then the ancient mariner
Unsure he won or lost
His crewmates stared, for he had snared
The mighty albatross
The fog and mist began to lift
But wind nor rain blew cross
For he now wore around his neck
The mighty albatross
Passed nights and days unsure of life
Full of regret, pathos
But not enough to bring to life
The mighty albatross
The sprites who judged the mariner
Had learned what he had lost
The curse began to fade away
Oh mighty albatross
He’s learned of life, so full of strife
A wiser man is he
Through fog he found the light of truth
And passed it on to me.
Dragonfly-the miracle insect
Oh… Dragonfly, the miracle insect
You are the symbol of change and self realization
Source of mental and emotional maturity,
Your scurrying flight across water
represents an act of going beyond the surface
glance at deeper implications and aspects of life.
Your agile flight and its ability to move in all six directions
Exclude a sense of power and poise
this can be seen only with age and maturity.
Your speed at amazing 45 miles an hour
Hover like a helicopter and fly backward like a hummingbird,
Fly straight up, down and on either side
Your wing strokes elegance and grace just like a veteran ballet dancer
You are wonderful and exhibits Iridescence both on your wings as well as body
It is kaleidoscopic
Your eyes are wonderful
most amazing and awe inspiring sights
You can see in all 360 degrees around
That symbolizes the uninhibited vision of the mind
And ability to see beyond the limitations of the human self
You are innocent and harmless, not bite
To Japanese you are a symbol of summer and autumn
And admired and respected all
Samurai use you as a symbol of power and best of all victory
For Chinese you are a symbol of prosperity, harmony and as a good luck charm
To Native Americans you are a sign of happiness, speed and purity
because you eats from the wind itself
Those may be the hidden facts that you have inhabited our planet for almost 300
Million years!
Jayaratne Weerakkody
On the occasional Tuesday night,
with my mother at work
and my sisters and I
in our pajamas,
my father would invite over
his brothers
and his friends
from the lumberyard
to drink beer and play
five card stud.
I was allowed
to greet each player and
watch the opening hand.
Each man
would arrive with something:
a sixer of canned Budweiser,
a bag of potato chips,
a metal band-aid box
filled with nickels and dimes.
Benny,
the stout and jolly
lumberyard foreman
with his thick skinned paws
and a Popeye tattoo
on his forearm,
would bring chocolate bars-
the king-sized ones
from the candy aisle
at the supermarket-
for my sisters and me.
He was like a blue collar Santa.
Uncle Guy
brought his good luck charm-
a Canadian nickel.
Not knowing that
it was not uncommon,
I was intrigued by the beaver.
My uncle would place
the nickel on the table
next to his vodka on the rocks
and fresh deck of cigarettes
just before the first hand was dealt.
Uncle Buddy,
with his Magnum mustache
and light blue eyes,
would bring his laugh-
a hearty hoot of a laugh
that would be heard,
although somewhat muffled,
through my bedroom walls
long after I brushed my teeth
and was sent to bed.
I’d hear the snap and fizz
of beer cans being opened
and the jingling and jangling
of growing pots
as I lay in my bed,
wide awake with the caffeine
from Benny’s chocolate bars.
There is you then there is me
Together we should be
The arithmetic of love
2 is one when we
Your smile and your grace
My new found happy place
We don’t have to be a item
Having a friend that’s so great
I feel I found a counter part
Someone to reciprocate
Our paths crossed not by coincidence
I believe it’s fate
When you’re around it’s like your energy changes the climate
I feel my vibe rise, to an unfamiliar high rate
Heart beating out my chest I feel my body vibrate
You’re my good luck charm
I’m ready to raise the stakes
This chance if I don’t take
Would be my life’s biggest mistake
That’s why I’m competing for your heart
Like it was a race
U make me feel invincible
I’ll only accept first place
I’ll go with you anywhere
Especially your birth place
There’s so many girls who want to be in your place
Jealous cuz I only want to be in your face
When we held hands
I knew it wasn’t fake
Still me smile thinking bout the looks on people’s face
I hope you’ll join me while I take this leap of faith
Hopefully one day Ill see how your lips taste
While I pull you in close
A warm embrace
I fantasize about grabbing the small of your waist
If I can’t have you I’ll feel like I’m in last place
The thought of it makes me feel like I’m in my last days
To A Chinese Dragon
Sponsor: David Lindsay
Ode to you, my Chinese Dragon, for you have stolen my heart!
your slow slimy tail was wagging and ripped a toll booth apart!
You carry a long scaly body and a head like a slithering snake,
“come along with me instead of feeding by the lingering lake!”
Just under your head you wear the long beard of a male goat,
during thunder, I’ve read, you wear the wrong colored rain coat.
You have four clenching claws made to tear apart your prey,
or drenching the waterfalls in flames near the park last Tuesday???
A fire-breathing creature created from the old time mythology,
with an acquired seething feature outdated from pre-histology.
Outlined in red your body is full colored greens and yellows,
defined instead, you embody a skully face to scream “HELLO!”
You symbolize potent and auspicious powers full of strength,
I’ve realized it’s important you’re not malicious, but intense.
You’ve summoned the wind and at times called for the rain,
possibly undone what’s been created without falling or pain.
Your good luck charm is number nine, for we shall never part!
you'll never harm me in time, for you have stolen my heart!
