Premium Member The Chicago Haymarket Riot of 1886

It was in eighteen eighty-six in the streets of Chicago,
where the greatest miscarriage of justice people would know
transpired in an infamous labor-police rendezvous.
Albert Parsons led eighty thousand people on revue.
The strikers marched down Chicago’s Michigan Avenue.
The Knights of Labor were sponsors for the work stoppage venue.
Demands for shorter work hours and no child labor were made.
This would be regarded as the world’s first May Day parade.
Thousands nationwide would join in with the activities
In the next few days, the striking workers stopped whole industries.

On the third, some strikers and police engaged in melees.
These actions resulted in two ill-fated fatalities.
The struggles also caused some severe hideous injuries.
The fights took place at the McCormick Harvester Company.
Many held the police for murderous culpability.

Organizers from the Knights of Labor held a mass rally
at the Haymarket in Chicago’s West Loop vicinity.
They would assemble there in the early part of May.
Thousands crowded there peacefully on the month’s fourth day.
Leaflets were passed noting the police for murder to the crowd
as anarchists urged the mobs to join forces and shout aloud.
A bomb thrown at the police catalyzed an altercation.
One officer was killed and others hurt in the explosion.
Matthias Degan was the officer fallen in duty.
Seven other policemen died later from an injury.
The police opened fire on the people immediately.
At least eleven of the strikers were shot at fatally.

Eight men stood trial for the death of police officer Degan.
They were Parsons, August Spies, George Engel, Samuel Fielden,
Adolf Fischer, Louis Lingg, Michael Schwab, and Oscar Neebe.
All eight were tried and found guilty by a judge and jury.
Neebe got fifteen years; the others got the death penalty.
Schwab and Fielden were commuted to life; then got clemency.
Lingg took his own life before his scheduled execution.
The remaining four men were hanged in public exhibition.

Since then, there have been enacted many labor reform laws
The men who died are considered martyrs to a noble cause.

Erik's Birthday

The day you were born you are mother and father's miracle,
You were a very calm baby boy.

Walter brought baby Erik and mom home from the hospital,
Mom could stay at home with you for a few months.

You learned to walk and talk,
Loved to read storybooks with mom and dad.

Liked the Fischer Price toys,
Playtime was your favorite,

Then you went to school,
Learned to read and write.

Enjoyed sports, like soccer,
When we lived with grandma and grandpa and mom.

Went to Lorne Park Elementary School with your brother Kirk,
Received good results at school.

I would drive you Erik, Kirk, and Antje to school and back.

Then you went onto graduate from school,
I remember you winning the jelly bean contest and won a jar pf jelly beans,
when you went to Ellwood.

You went to Humberview Collegiate,
I am sure there are many good memories there.

Graduated with your favorite female escort,
I remember the holiday we had in Collingwood where we enjoyed skiiing.

We stayed over the weekend, dinned.
The miracle, that took us two hours to get there. I was still driving in those days.

Your mother's handsome escort to the Federation of Teachers twenty-five year dinner.
Where mother was photographed with the Director of Education, we had a nice dinner.

The nice picnic at Wittchurch with all our relatives,
We bought a bucket of Kentucky Fried chicken and had lunch.

Then there were the days at University where he studied to be a Chartered Account.
Got married to his childhood sweetheart Lisette.

Had a beautiful wedding in Costa Rica.
Sent mom the pictures of the wedding, very beautiful.

Went to live there because the climate was warmer,
Lived in a nice apartment with his beautiful wife.

I remember the days when we shared a Christmas holiday at the Limetree.
Upon arrival we received a Santa and a bag of oranges.

That was such an excellent vacation with Antje, grandma and grandpa and mom.
We met the Thornes, Regina, Eric, Cliff and Tina.

These are beautiful memories,
God has blessed us with them.

Our youth needed, and got a "Hero",in "The summer of 2014,15,16,17,and 18.Our youth needed and got jobs for those summers to help them fortify there dignity, and self esteem! The youths ages were 21 down to the age of 16. Our youth will grow to be good contributing American citizens with re-enforced dignity, and self esteem. Mayor Gregory Fischer realized that "Jobs" were hard to come by for our youth, and adults, and our teens:In the process of realizing that fact:"GOD opened "Mayor Gregory Fischer's creative, passionate, connected"EYE" ,to see job creation for our youth so that they could earn themselves some loot!We all realize that"Fate says we can't",and "and as we think on our destiny then we realize that "Destiny says we can"! Destiny speaks to every woman ,child ,boy ,girl and any man! Mayor Gregory Fischer became a "Hero",because he said: I Can! Fate said that there are no jobs to be found for our youth, but "Destiny" stepped right in,and spoke up and said that that is not the truth, and we are going to create jobs for our youth! Destiny said that we have a "Great Mayor",and his name is "Gregory Fischer". He has a "Creative Eye",and he will create jobs for our youth from twenty-one down to the age of sixteen,so they may gain dignity,,and self esteem. In 2014 Louisville,Kentucky's Mayor Gregory Fischer, with the creative eye created 2000 jobs for our youth, and that can earn them some loot, and be dignified to boot! The youth are going on their ways to do good work in "Possibility City" to make it inviting, attractive, and pretty! Mayor "Gregory Fischer" has surpassed all who have created jobs for the summer for our youth: that makes him a "Hero"in creating summer jobs!!! Our youth will earn some loot, and be dignified to boot!!!

The Way of the Wood Pusher

There's a game known as Chess that I learned as a lad
But in spite of the passage of time I'm still bad.
I can not see ahead seven moves like some do;
If you say, "Bobby Fischer" I'll just come back with, "Who?"

I speak French when I must, as in terms like, "J'adoube,"
But it's all a charade, for I think like a boob.
I don't know who invented this mind-wasting sport,
But I'm sure many law books would deem it a tort.

You can find "Chess For Dummies" on shelves in bookstores,
And I once tried to read it, eliciting snores.
See, I'm trapped in the middle, 'twixt Firsties and Plebes;
It is called Mediocre, and it ranks me with Dweebs.

But this thing's got me hooked; I just can't walk away;
It's a weird fascination that's always in play.
I don't care if you trounce me in ten moves or less
When I trot out my Queen in a desperate press.

My intent is to smash you like ANVIL on bone,
But it's not very often that I'm in the zone.
And I have other schemes that I'm willing to try;
GARIBALDI's the Gambit that might make you cry.

When I'm lazy I mimic your opening game;
MIRROR MOVES, my descriptive, alliterative name.
Metaphors just delight me as labels for ploys
To deprive my opponents of all of their joys.

If I were only equally good with my men
I could teach all of you a sore lesson, and then
I would not have to channel my fear of defeat
Into tirades like these that sound like a goat's bleat.

A Toast To the Dead and the Living

The past becomes a lesson
All of them had a session with destiny
In their century they stood firm so
Here is a toast to the three that died
And to the One who is living!

First a toast to Watchman Nee
Through your readings
I learned the power of bowing my knee
As a teenager your readings
Melted over my life
Soon I would understand the knife of sacrifice
A toast to you, Watchman Nee!

Second a toast to Leonardo Da Vinci
You were the Renaissance man who
Had a wonderful romance with life
You shattered the ordinary matrix and
Produced extraordinary results
You taught me to break the shackles that live within the norm
A toast to you, Leonardo Da Vinci

Third a toast to Bobby Fischer
A man of courage who
Sparked a flame in life
Your work ethic in chess will remain a pathway
So that I can enhance my skills in life
A toast to you, Bobby Fischer

Fourth a toast to the living, Jesus Christ
You are in a class of your own
You are the Specialist and
You are the Author and finisher of my faith
No one compares to you; you know everything!
Your Government is Eternal and you can never fade
A toast to you, Jesus Christ the Greatest of All Time!

Games With the Crone

Strategizing your next move
In our little game of chess
That we have been playing
Against each other for so long
Precious one, don't you
Realize that I already
Know your next move
My teacher was Bobby Fischer
He taught me how to defeat
Players just like yourself
He made me a pro at this
Game of cat and mouse

My eyes see the truth
My ears hear what you
Are really saying and
Not what you utter to me
I know what you're thinking
I know how you will answer
Me before you even open
Up your lying mouth
No naive school girl here
I have been playing this
Game longer than you
And believe me, baby
I know how to win
I will take your King
Before you even get a
Chance to move your pawn

You cannot defeat the
Mistress of love games
I have have been played
With too many times
To miss when I have
Met up with another player
Trying to outwit the dominatrix
Are you going to quit or
Am I going to have
To get the whip out?
Save your masquerading
For someone who will
Fall for your bag of tricks
This old crone has been around
Way too long to be fooled
By a mere amateur like you

Letter To Bobby Fischer

You were the man who reached the summit of chess
This was a mammoth task
I appreciate the fact that you played chess without a mask!

Your work ethic is something to admire
As a chess player, you were really on fire
You studied the games and
Understood the names in chess history!

Bobby Fischer
A man of courage
Who sparked a flame with the Russian players
But nothing could stop your purpose!

I filter your ambition and realize
The passion that should be reflected with any talent!

The beauty of the game in the 1972 world chess championship
Showed us that your level of creativity was timed to perfection
You set the scene; at times you were mean but
Your work ethic in chess was unequivocal and
Even though you were vocal about your own country
It does not diminish the impact you had on so many chess players!

Bobby Fischer
A man of courage who
Sparked a flame in life!
Your work ethic in chess will remain as a pathway
To show us what we should do with our own talents!

In the Tram

She's lost in thought,
Childhood memories flash through her,
They come like torrents,
Opening the door to her mind,
In her, her past finds a place.

She reminisces on fond and bitter memories,
A deluge of stories,
Separated from her family at an early age,
She journeyed through the unknown,
She was saddled with the untold.

She walked through eerie nights,
She was cocooned in life's shadows,
She sojourned through shrivelled meadows,
Gradually she walked towards the light,
A helping hand reached for her.

Tears stream down her eyes,
She turns around,
The newspaper has a hold on the man,
The ladies are neck-deep in their discussion,
A man looks away probably lost as she was.
